It's a shame, because those VIP members that use their two votes to vote on every on of there own images, are ones whose images are, IMHO, not very good.
It's the end user that suffers in the long run - as Kodi / Plex / Ember scrapes the images with the most votes.

yeah - if you are using kodi media centre or plex and you let it grab the images for you .. the fanart API scrapes the image with the highest vote

yeah we'll see when kode gets it up and running - I think on the new site it shows a list of everyone that's voted on an image .. so members names will be more visible. That migh curb the self glorification a bit !

there are several .. if you look at the logos on the bottom of the new site http://dev2.fanart.tv/ they are just some of the programs that utilise fanarts images
