If anyone knows or hearâs of anything...to remind me why they were on my radar - Iâd be grateful!!!

SongdexÂŽ is the world's largest and fastest-growing registry of music copyright and related business information, containing detailed, relational data on tens of millions of songs, recordings, and their owners, covering virtually all of the commercially significant music in existence.
Looks too good... ;)

^so howâd it get constructed? And, who is feeding it?
As I said earlier, I'll be sending an e-mail to our 7 GSoC students asking that they come say hi next week, so hopefully people will be around to say hi back. ;)
How do you think those 40 musicologists check on data?

zas: We've need to release a new version of Picard soon for a while now. :p
*needed
chrisskye: Ask them. Search their db for MusicBrainz Test Artist.
zas
Freso: i mean, we _really_ need to do it ;)
Freso
zas: I don't disagree. :)

zas: I don't think releasing a new version of picard allows switching to https for the web service any time soon - half the world is most likely not going to get that new version for at least several months
Mineo: this is why we need to release soon, we will not switch to https-only until main apps are compliant enough
chrisskye: see the last question of their FAQ
"You can register your entire song catalog with us and update us as you add or remove works from your catalog over time. The best way to send catalog information to us is to send an excel spreadsheet to ..."
chrisskye
hmmmm
zas
The excel part is dedicated to ruaok ;)
chrisskye
And with that they are âthe worldâs largest and fastest growingâ?
that system?
zas
Yes ofc ;) i think we need to understand "commercially significant" as "commercially significant for Music Reports".
chrisskye
lol. ok.
I canât find any access to their database.
zas
Nor i, i doubt they have any public access anyway
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_Reports says "Music Reports has compiled and maintains SONGDEX, a proprietary database of over 70 million sound recordings and related musical compositions, publishers, composers, and related payment information."
https://www.musicreports.com/#terms says "The information contained in the database has been provided to or obtained by MRI from a variety of sources, and MRI makes no warranties or representations whatsoever with respect to its accuracy." ...
chrisskye
What are the odds MB is one of those âvariety of sourcesâ?
I guess it does not matter...unless I can find âspecific informationâ supporting a claim that they use our database...they arenât going to talk to me. :/
zas
Plus they are "Delaware-based" according to WP, while it is quite unobvious from their website (contact in CA) ;)
darwin
most american corporations are based in delaware legally
because it is the most favorable corporate environment legally
rahulr: basically, there are a core issue with the way 301 responses are handled (Picard handles them as a 302, which isn't much an issue for now), but the PR i made needs to be tested
There are crowd-sourced metadata sites that aren't *Brainz? :-P
Leo_Verto
Yeah, I realize that, it just seems like a dick move for a commercial service like Plex to just use MB directly when free competitors have done it a lot better

But Kodi (XBMC at the time) was how I found out about MB :D
