but I am good things that this will just work or with only minor issues

what I am testing right now will probably become my mirror server just with a slightly changed musicbrainz server that uses the packages from the debian repo to build faster
re: the discID thing, zas: agreed, that is an annoying search and you should be able to just paste an MBID like elsewhere (same goes for the "add existing medium" search in the RE)

So: not sure when we'll get to it but I'd certainly want us to get to it

reosarevok: about countries & Picard, for sure something has to be done, can you create a ticket (if not yet)? We're about to release 2.3 (prolly tomorrow), but if a proper solution is found, it can be in next release

about the discid thing, ticket is 6 years old already, and the issue can prolly be fixed quickly (plus that's an inconsistent behavior, as one can paste mbid almost everywhere but in few fields)

I'm not sure how much of a quick fix it is, but once I'm done with the other ten tickets I have open, I can look into it :D
Hi. My name is Mir Quadri. I am new to this IRC. I came across the bookbrainz project on GitHub and I am very intrigued.

Welcome shah78677 !

I am pursuing a master's degree in artificial intelligence and was looking to participate in GSoC this year.

Hi Mr_Monkey
2020-02-16 04707, 2020
shah78677
I was wondering if you guys would be open to discussing some ideas that I had for bookbrainz for GSoC
2020-02-16 04738, 2020
Mr_Monkey
shah78677: Sure thing, go ahead
2020-02-16 04708, 2020
shah78677
I have been through the bookbrainz website and I admire the mission. I have always loved books and would love to contributions that help the book community.

I am student of AI and love working on sentiment analysis. Currently, if you look at all the major book databases out there like Goodreads etc. they all tend to use the 5 star rating.
2020-02-16 04713, 2020
shah78677
My idea is to rate books based on the emotions that it evokes in its readers instead of just the plain old 5 star rating.
2020-02-16 04705, 2020
shah78677
Since bookbrainz has a large database of books already available, I wanted to add a module to it that provides an emotions based rating for the given book.
2020-02-16 04713, 2020
shah78677
Does it make sense so far?
2020-02-16 04715, 2020
Mr_Monkey
Do you mean based on the contents of the books? If so, you should know we only store metadata about the books, and not their content
2020-02-16 04715, 2020
Mr_Monkey
If you mean analysis of reviews, that's another story. We have a project for reviews where such an idea could be applicable: critiquebrainz.org
2020-02-16 04754, 2020
Mr_Monkey
It is currently only for reviews of MusicBrainz, but in the near future, it should be adapted to provide reviews for BookBrainz too
2020-02-16 04735, 2020
shah78677
No, not the content, but the user review. Here's what I propose. Pretty much every book out there has user reviews available on websites like amazon, goodreads, audible etc. My idea is to scrape the top publicly available reviews for the given book, analyze them for emotional reactions and present them visually as an added metric for the given

book.
2020-02-16 04715, 2020
shah78677
Thanks for sharing critiquebrainz.org with me Mr_Monkey. I will definitely look it up.
2020-02-16 04740, 2020
shah78677
Here's basically what my module will do in theory:
2020-02-16 04743, 2020
Mr_Monkey
I think that idea would work well with CritiqueBrainz, actually ! Instead of scraping reviews on other websites, which will be contentious, using the CC0 reviews on CritiqueBrainz makes a lot of sense
2020-02-16 04723, 2020
shah78677
Yes. I see it has over 9000+ reviews...thats pretty good.
2020-02-16 04755, 2020
shah78677
I guess I could morph this idea to work with music reviews....
2020-02-16 04730, 2020
Mr_Monkey
Well, such work would benefit music reviews in the first place, and be adapted once reviews for books are implemented
2020-02-16 04725, 2020
shah78677
Yeah. That sounds like a plan. I guess I could start working with what I have first. And then extend the same technology into other things.
2020-02-16 04720, 2020
shah78677
How does this plan sound like for GSoC Mr_Monkey? I haven't prepared the whole proposal for it yet but just wanted to get your take on it. I believe it add a lot more value to the reviews.
2020-02-16 04746, 2020
shah78677
So far all the major websites seem to waste their valuable reviews sections by sticking just to the 5 star rating. While I am not disregarding the efficacy of the 5 star rating, it is too objective a way to give ratings to something so subjective as books and music and the arts in general.
2020-02-16 04753, 2020
shah78677
I think adding a sentiment analysis based review ratings system that uses machine learning to give measures of the different emotions evoked will provide a reader/listener with a lot more perspective on the product.
2020-02-16 04742, 2020
Mr_Monkey
Personally I think it sounds like a great idea. Anything that adds to the material we have is valuable, and I like the fact that it would apply for music and books ultimately.
2020-02-16 04742, 2020
Mr_Monkey
That being said, I am not knowledgeable enough in sentiment analysis to have a clear idea of what it would entail, or whether the scope fits for a GSOC project.
2020-02-16 04742, 2020
Mr_Monkey
ruaok and alastairp will be better points of contact regarding CritiqueBrainz. It's late at night where they live, so if you can, try to stay connected to the IRC channel until they can get back to you. If you can't, you'll have to check the channel logs here and search for your username: https://chatlogs.metabrainz.org/brainzbot/metabra…
