yvanzo, bitmap, reosarevok: if i set a large offset for a search request, will there be any difference in the response to detect that no more items are available or should i parse the json to check for empty list
      • yvanzo
_lucifer: there is no difference but the list

ruaok: Apple is being annoying again :( Code signing suddenly fails with "You must first sign the relevant contracts online."
      • Could you take a look at the Apple account? Not sure what contracts have been added or updated, but I guess it would show somewhere
      • _lucifer

ruaok: all the mappings except the recent one has text fields prefixed with `msb`. It is `mb` in the recent one. Don't we have any tests for the mappings to avoid this conundrum of names. I will prefer using `msb` since the codebase uses that.
      • ruaok
        moin!
      • those are not confusions.
      • mb = musicbrainz
      • msb = messybrainz
      • the prefix denotes the source of the data.
      • pristine___
but why it was changed in the recent mapping to mb?
      • all the previous mappings use `msb`
      • ruaok
because the fields in the mapping that originally came from msb were not useful.
      • pristine___
and the codebase was updated to use msb.
      • ruaok
if you wanted to use the mapping and look up data, you got MSB data. but most people want MB data, so they would need to do another lookup.
      • remember the point of the mapping is that once the data is passed through the mapping, we no longer use MSB data, but only MB data.
      • pristine___
that means i will have to update mb everywhere
      • I get that
      • ruaok
is that a lot of work?
      • pristine___
I hope there aren't a lot of changes in the filed names in future :p
      • ruaok
        that makes two of us.
      • pristine___
        :p
      • > is that a lot of work?
      • ruaok
remember, this is part of the software development process when you're leaning stuff.
      • the goal is not always clear and at times, there will be two steps forward, one step back.

        iliekcomputers: 💻 whoo hoo
      • Mr_Monkey: huh. what is "traveller norwegian" ?:D
      • hum. shoudl we have a work-author "work is about author" relationship?
      • ishaanshah
        iliekcomputers: Noice!
      • Mr_Monkey
CatQuest: Not sure hat you mean with "traveller norwegian".
      • As for the relationship it does make sense. Lots of writers biographies out there. The reverse would be "Author X appears in Work Y"
      • CatQuest
        indeed
      • the traveleers was showing up when i typed "norw" in language search
      • jmp_music has quit
      • Mr_Monkey
No idea. But AFAIK the languages in BB are copied over from MB.
      • CatQuest
        never seen it there
      • Mr_Monkey
      • CatQuest
        huh
      • Mr_Monkey
        What about Hildegard?
      • CatQuest
it's probably one of the oldest people in our db a the moment
      • definitely the eariest woman now
      • btw. languages. what id you don't know what language it is?
      • like especialy names cna be severla languages
      • and if someone .fex has a italian last name with a german (or norwegina ,or swedish or..) first name? thne what
      • for titles I guess. but I stil ldon't really buy the "language of the contence of the book =/= language of the title of the book" thing. nor that the language of the titl is so important to be mandatory while contence language (wich, is much easier ot discern really) isn't
      • here is an exapmle: a person called Marie Louise Portmann what language is this?
      • iliekcomputers
        shivam-kapila: ahahahaha lol
      • CatQuest
she apparently wrote a (modern)german translation of physica (hildegard's) but how do i know that her name(that she is) german?
      • does it matter if she is gemrna but her name isn't?
      • is her name german?
      • Mr_Monkey
I agree the whole language thing doesn't make sense for authors
      • CatQuest
        \o/ thank you!
      • Mr_Monkey
Implementation of that change is going to be a whole other story, though…
      • CatQuest
        ugh
      • well for now i'm jsut putting "[multiple] since it's a lot easier and quicker :/
      • sorry
      • Mr_Monkey
        That's why I haven't touched it yet
      • CatQuest
        heh
      • I presume that together with all the other language-list improvememts like shortening it, putting comon ones at tope etc
      • I'll improve the ticket i created for it too
      • I'm also working on a document to see what "attributes" are useful for us. i mena on relationships
      • one thing. like here I am infront of me I have a work that contains "translated excerpts" from another work"
      • this seems like "translated" would be an attribute there...
      • or should the "translation" work-work rel have a ""prtial" atribute? instead
      • my first instinct is the former
      • but that also becoems a problem becasue is a translation als oan adaptation?
      • what if something was translated *and* adapted?
      • aren't all translations adaptations?
      • should "translated" work-work just be an attribute on "derivation"
      • (artist-work is another story. and it makes sense there)
      • bt. for artist-work I am adding both "colourist" and "penciller" since those seemed imprtant (atleast acc wikipedia these are: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penciller https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorist )
      • lastly I need some input on: copyright (a new rel I will suggest) and "licensor"
      • what exactly is lisencoring?
      • it sonds more like a publisist thing
      • hmm i suppose for now one could simply add *both* an "contains excerpts from" *and* a "is a translation of"
      • well we don't yet have 2contaisn excerpts" :P
      • alastairp
a licensor is a person who grants a license to someone (the person who receives the license is called a licensee)
      • CatQuest
        eeekk
      • how does an person (author?) do that on a work?
      • alastairp
in this case I suspect that it's almost (but not always) the same as the copyright holder
      • CatQuest
since this is an "author-work" rel on bb
      • hm! i shoudl jsut rename that then sicne it's super mega- unclear what it means right now ans it doesn't actulaly mirror what books actulaly say
      • Mr_Monkey: thoughts?
      • alastairp
like in music, often the person who makes the thing isn't always the person who can legally allow others to use it
      • in the specific case of books I don't know how this work
      • CatQuest
        yea. and that ucks :O
      • hmm in books.. i suppose it's somewhat different a little
      • I guess today toiken-company owns "lotr" copyright thingy
      • but i guess the lincensing woudl happen only on an adaptation (movie script)
