alastairp: also, lunch with Jason Hershkowitz was fun.
      • alastairp
cool. I haven't caught up with him since he was at MWC here a few years back
      • alastairp starts ripping old code out of a project
      • this is satisfying
      • ruaok
deleting code is always more fun than writing new stuff.
      • jesus2099
what ? you mean every companies should provide crap conditions to their workers because some companies rely on slavery ? ;) that is the end of social progress
      • well, we know social progress has stopped already anyway by now… except for owners and traders maybe :)
      • ruaok
        agreed. 100%
      • this is why we need a post capitalistic solution.
      • but, in current conditions companies like AF cannot survive in the long run.
      • jesus2099
        yeah… :)
      • (saying “yeah” goes with sunglasses and chewing gum jaw motion)

[12:52] <Freso> jesus2099: Also, it's generally the more tech savvy people using blockers, who will likely use up-to-date software to begin with.
      • nghh. not really?
      • jesus2099
it’s not always true, indeed (in my case I purposely use an old browser). but maybe most often true ? :)
      • CatQuest
idk. I think either or? sometimes more techsavvy means older browser for (reasons) while nonsavvy means "just update whatever I don't know how most of the stuff works anyway"
      • while also tech savy might mean "update to the security always!" and nonsavvy might mean "idk, I can't be assed to update"
      • in all honesty I wish I could just get things like security and bug updates always, an leave interface and functionality alone like the old version
      • a system like that? I would keep up the update always
      • same with websites
      • and brograms
      • programs too
      • brogram?
      • yo I just updatered my program, now it's a brogram!

        hi
      • do instruments have annotations?
      • do/can
      • ruaok
      • alastairp
        awesome, thx
      • alastairp adds annotation include support for instruments
      • i like the way you checked

I got the equivalent of an open source ig nobel for that method!

I was hoping that reo would just tell me. but good luck with that
      • zas
chirlu``, bitmap : i got errors "error: 0" when submitting changes or new release on MB atm, only part of the changes is actually submitted
      • bitmap
can you re-submit while recording network activity in the browser dev tools?
      • zas
        sure
      • bitmap
would be useful to see the response from /ws/js
      • /ws/js/edit
      • should send back an error as JSON but sometimes it gets HTML containing a stack trace if it's unhandled
      • zas
        400 Bad Request, {"error":""}
      • bitmap
        hm, unhelpful
      • zas
        yup :(
      • bitmap
can you pastebin the data it's sending in the request?
      • alastairp
do instruments have ratings? the docs seem to imply, but there’s no exposed interface for it. Should I try and submit one and see what happens?
      • All entities except release support:
      • tags, ratings, user-tags, user-ratings
      • pulling ruaoks trick, I see no definition in the tables
      • bitmap
        right, no ratings for instruments
      • alastairp
also, I see tags for a release
      • even though on the release page it says “release group rating”
      • I’m not sure if the tags are rg too
      • bitmap
releases have tags, just not ratings
      • alastairp
        right
      • can you fix those docs, or do you want me to?
      • ruaok thinks about the implications of rating instruments
      • bitmap
        release groups have both
      • ruaok dowvotes the tuba
      • alastairp
        ruaok: yeah
      • bitmap
        I'll fix
      • zas

flute: 4 out of 5, could be longer
      • zas
      • bitmap
thx, I'll see if I can submit locally, otherwise I'll add logging on the servers
      • ruaok tries to somehow explain MB, AB and LB to non-technical people in 20 slides.
      • alastairp
        hah, good luck
      • oh man
      • ruaok: you know that thing where excel is not a database?
      • CallerNo6
        ruoak's job sounds fun, actually
      • alastairp
someone gave us a list of all of their albums that they want us to help add to MB
      • no prizes for guessing what format it came in
      • ruaok
        alastairp: how big is it?
      • alastairp
        2400 rows
      • about 20 columns
      • ruaok
I wonder, if you print that out, will it make up enough pages to beat them with it?
      • will it hurt enough?
      • because, stupid should hurt, right
      • alastairp
it’d be less painful (for me) if the stuff after about row 1000 followed the same format started in the first 100 rows
      • Freso
CatQuest: "generally" != "always", "in all instances"
      • alastairp
consistent spelling? not really needed. different way of handling multi-cd albumns? no problem. separating artists with ; or ,? whatever you want
      • no data which represents the album title <- seriously
      • ruaok
there is an answer for people like that: FUCK. NO.
      • bitmap
zas: can you run something in the JS console for me and then paste the output?
      • zas
        sure
      • bitmap
        MB.edit.mediumEdit2=MB.edit.mediumEdit;MB.edit.mediumEdit=function(a,b){console.log(JSON.stringify(a));console.log(JSON.stringify(b));MB.edit.mediumEdit2(a, b);};MB.releaseEditor.edits.medium(MB.releaseEditor.rootField.release());
      • the edit it's submitting is throwing a NoChanges exception, so trying to understand why the JS think there are changes :)
      • zas
bitmap: it was "sure", until my firefox crashed... Murphy's law hits again, i doesn't have the tab anymore in the state it was :(
      • bitmap
