but then you should als oallow for people to *change* their username
      • see CallerNo6's dilemma earlier also for example.
      • I'd also agree with not allowing completely differnt names too
      • but i'd also think it's fine with *small* variation, ie : "CatQuest" vs "CatCat" but not "Barnaby McCattaracht"
      • (not that i'm callig myself that)
      • CatQuest notes that on jira he is ZaphodBeeblebrox (which could be changed i wish)
      • reosarevok
Well, my understanding of that is that we don't generally allow username changes for the same reason I would enforce the same username in Discourse: because it's harder to know who everyone is if they change username at will. But I'm not even sure tbh, maybe it's just because a username change feature never got written...
      • CatQuest
        both i'd assume
      • but also.. I agree.
      • people should change their name 3 times a month (lol me saying this)
      • buuuut..
      • people change
      • people use names
      • and people associate themselves with different names over time
      • people are , as always, the problem
      • sorry that ist sentence should say "people SHOULDN'T change their name 3 times a month (lol me saying this)"
      • alastairp
Gentlecat: flask restart from osx host works. I'm trying gulp now
      • CatQuest
it should be like.. mandatoryally keep it for atleast 5 years or something, and if you *do* canhe it, there should be a ledger showign all past usernames you had, and there should be an icon or stm next to your username which means "you've changed name recently"
      • ie, ebay does this
      • namechange on the while metabrainz domainsites should be something you cmiit to, not a fashion statment
      • whole*
      • OR allow *small* variation
      • or a *small* pool of alternate names. like Leftmost -> Leftmost cat
      • LordSputnik
For internal Brainz sites, we could get away with not storing username/email in domain-specific user tables, and instead store user id. That would make central name/email changes no harder than it is now
      • Leftmost
It would also require storing all basic user information in shorter-term cache.
      • LordSputnik
But you get that information in the OAuth response anyway
      • ruaok
Sigh. Vueling. Late again. Some things never change, right alastairp ?
      • alastairp
you're technically not late until 4h after the scheduled time :D
      • however, it's still the morning. No idea how they're late already
      • LordSputnik
Leftmost: the /userinfo gets JSON basic user data for the currently auth'd user on MB
      • (/oauth2/userinfo, that is)
      • Leftmost
Right, you get it in the OAuth response, but then you need to cache it for display, at least until the next OAuth call.
      • Not saying this is a dealbreaker, just pointing it out.
      • ruaok
alastairp: I have no idea how they manage. But to Brussels it's bad airline or bad airline. Take a pick!

        alastairp: did it work?
      • alastairp
didn't try it. I'm building VM
      • for ab
      • Leftmost
By the way, LordSputnik, we may want to seek out a new time for Monday meetings.

CatQuest: You were not supposed to have registered yet. I did just delete one user because I couldn't figure out what their username on MB was. As reosarevok said, it's supposed to be a continuation of MB, so we'll want usernames to be the same. I'd be happy to support a request from you to change your username on MB (and subsequently on comm.meb.o), even if I can't actually do the change myself (yet?).
      • Gentlecat doesn't know how to do playlists
      • Gentlecat creates "Good stuff (2016)"
      • If you (or Gentlecat) had registered now, you would not have been able to change your Discourse username in the first place.
      • Gentlecat
      • and it doesn't seem to work with unicode very well (I didn't change name/username) :(
      • Freso
Gentlecat: Perhaps because you're a mod or admin?
      • Gentlecat
      • Freso
(I mean, I can change my own username on Discourse too.)
      • Oh, yeah.
      • Gentlecat
I have another MB account and just tried to create one on discourse with it
      • Freso
If your username does not work in Discourse you get an option to change your username. I confirmed that with Leftmost earlier.
      • (Who has a space in their username.)

      • Gentlecat
      • Freso
        What matters?
      • Gentlecat
you are saying that discourse lets you change username if it's not supported
      • jwheare joined the channel
      • I think you can choose it no matter what username you have on musicbrainz
      • Freso
Yeah. I had someone test it and got a report that they didn't get an option to change their username.
      • So that's what I worked off of.
      • Seems like that was a misleading report. :(
      • Gentlecat
also, why are there so many options?
      • Freso
        Options?
      • Gentlecat
        username, musicbrainz username, name
      • Freso
Well, username wasn't supposed to be an option. :)
      • Gentlecat
if first two are not the same, how are you going to enforce it?
      • ok
      • Freso
Name can be whatever people want it to be.
      • Gentlecat
still, why allow people to set their own musicbrainz username?
      • luks
have you guys considered https://meta.discourse.org/t/official-single-si... for SSO instead of OAuth?
      • Freso
For me, it'd be "Freso" in all four.
      • luks
that looks like it could avoid this confusion, since there would be no separate account creation
      • Freso
luks: I think we discarded that since that'd required custom-coding on MBS.
      • D4RK-PH0ENiX has quit
      • But yeah, I do think I would personally prefer that.
      • I guess I'll bring it up tonight if no one else wants to talk about it now.

      • I still can’t get it working here...
      • Gentlecat
in about 20 min? just started to eat
      • I removed it after testing
      • alastairp
        sure
      • LordSputnik
Leftmost: is it a bad time for you now?
      • Leftmost
Yeah, I won't be able to make it at the current time any longer.
      • chirlu`
Freso: I think we should have a new “Discourse” component in JIRA. That way, we have a clear view of which old-forums ticket still need to be handled (either wontfixed if no longer relevant, moved to Discourse if still relevant, or fixed in whatever form the forums are archived).
      • jesus2099
        yes that↗
      • gcilou
Freso, the two community logos? svg and png?
      • LordSputnik
Leftmost: ok, I'll do another Doodle poll
      • Can you make half an hour later today?
      • umeshksingla has quit
      • Leftmost
I can make today at the usual meeting time, but starting next week I won't.
      • Freso
gcilou: SVG at least. Not sure I looked at PNG.
      • gcilou
      • Freso
        Huh. The PNG looks fine.
      • kahu joined the channel
      • gcilou
Yeah whenever I save as svg it removes the details from the logo which is odd
      • Freso
Did you do it as SVG first, or did you change to SVG after doing PNG?
      • umeshksingla joined the channel
      • gcilou
I opened the meb_small as svg with illustrator, made the changes and then exported as svg and it did that

      • let me test editing from osx
      • alastairp
        weird
      • Freso
        gcilou: Strange.
      • :/
      • alastairp
you installed gulp-watch on osx, run `gulp watch`
      • and change a file
      • gcilou
yess. I'm going to try something and then I'll be out of ideas :)
      • Freso
        gcilou: Alright.
      • alastairp
I can't get it working either from osx -> osx or linux->linux
      • Freso
Thanks for poking at it either way. :)
      • alastairp
        let alone through the vm
      • Gentlecat
        yeah, that's what I did
      • alastairp
let me delete node_modules and try again
      • Gentlecat
        editing through ssh works
      • gcilou
        no problem
      • alastairp
editing in the vm, you mean?
      • Gentlecat
        right
      • alastairp
        ok
      • Gentlecat
doesn't seem to work when I edit in osx
      • alastairp
hmm. perhaps it was using my osx modules and didn't recompile native extensions
      • right
      • Gentlecat tries that
      • gcilou
hmm does this look alright ... inkscape makes it look like the font is regular, not bold/black https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/9F69i...
      • alastairp
Gentlecat: not sure if that setting will apply if you just update vagrantfile, or if you need to reinstall
      • or if you can change the setting using vboxcontrl

gcilou: Perhaps try to fix the document boundary?
      • gcilou: I know fixing that in Inkscape made the full-detail one you did start rendering properly for me.
      • alastairp
yeah, I’m pretty sure nfs will work. but it seems like using a hammer when something that isn’t a hammer would do
      • Freso open GIMP to take a screenshot of Inkscape...
      • Gentlecat
hmm, maybe I do need to reinstall
      • alastairp
Gentlecat: seriously. no feedback at all
