        alastairp, go!
      • alastairp
hi. last week not as productive as I had hoped, but still a bunch of stuff done
      • I'm finally getting on top of AB reviews. It's a learning process - I'm learning to never leave too many open PRs at a time... they start snowballing
      • ruaok nods
      • zas
I'm there, i was pushing some MB edits, didn't see the time
      • alastairp
good news is I think I've finished all of Gentlecat's, just got to merge them hopefully tonight or tomorrow morning
      • SoC with kartikgupta0909 is going great. We've got a prototype ppa of gaia for i368 going (weird bug with amd64... will look at it soon)
      • Freso|koume
zas, you're up next then. :)
      • zas
Not much progress on docker side (ftp etc..), had a busy long week end
      • alastairp
and some good research into choosing a serialization format for moving lowlevel datafiles around, and storing framebased data
      • TOPIC: MetaBrainz Community and Development channel | MusicBrainz non-development: #musicbrainz | MeB meeting agenda: Reviews, old FreeDB VM at OSUOSL (chirlu), last: Docker-mini meeting (ruaok)
      • Gentlecat and I met at UPF last week to work out a bunch of plans for the dataset editor. We have some cool stuff planned which should happen in the next few months
      • Freso|koume
        Nice.
      • alastairp
and I've finally started integrating the work we did for our paper (which we're presenting in August), so we'll be able to show that off at the conference too
      • that's it
      • Freso|koume
zas, go? (if you have anything more)
      • zas
I did a bunch of security upgrades, disk cleanup (we need to do something about nginx logs, asterix was using 192Gb of logs), worked a bit on docker
      • i set up ftp/rsync/rate limit on sakura
      • fix up passive/active ftp (thanks to chirlu)
      • and as usual, added a bunch of releases and artists to MB, nothing more
      • fin.
      • modwizcode
        At least it wasn't using a GB/s :P
      • Freso|koume
        rahulr, go!
      • rahulr
        Hi!
      • Freso|koume
        🙋
      • rahulr
Last week I worked on finishing up the track searching dialog. Some fixes and restructuring into that.
      • I'm hoping to get it merged into master by this week.
      • That's all. fin.
      • Freso|koume
        QuoraUK_, go!
      • QuoraUK_
hi! been back from a LAN party for a few minutes :p. sortef an admin system for BB achievements and fixed some issues LordSputnik brought up in commit comments (they were super helpful, thanks!) just got GSoC feedback and ill get to work implementing those comments this week :D
      • on my mobile, still havent unpacked, sorry for any mistakes :p
      • fin.
      • Freso|koume
        armalcolite, go!
      • armalcolite
this week was kind of lucky, got my patches merged!
      • zas
        :)
      • armalcolite
did some docker-stuff to get things working and got it setup(proxy settings are really pain)
      • worked on the api_compat
      • at this stage, its pretty much working and can be used.
      • alastairp
I'm really happy to see armalcolite's stuff merged. I still haven't managed to look at it though :(
      • I'll try and use new postgres LB when it gets released!
      • armalcolite
got some feedback from ruaok today, hopefully do them soon. :)
      • ruaok
alastairp: before too long I'll put it up in VM to test.
      • armalcolite
alastairp: you will love the master.it's about 100 commits ahead :D
      • LordSputnik
QuoraUK_: let us know if you'd like any more explanation for the feedback :)
      • armalcolite
        fin

        (Completely unrelated, but: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KolfEhV-KiA )
      • hellska, go!
      • hellska
        Hi :)
      • This week I reviewed GSoC code after receiving comments
      • Opened a new ticket in jira and started working on the schema changes needed to make dataset submissions work
      • Made a PR ,changed the schema to flag the ID Type of the recordings and accept items without MBID
      • TOPIC: MetaBrainz Community and Development channel | MusicBrainz non-development: #musicbrainz | MeB meeting agenda: Reviews, old FreeDB VM at OSUOSL (chirlu), JIRA upgrade status? (ben), last: Docker-mini meeting (ruaok)
      • discussed with gentlecat and alastairp how to proceed with the project
      • hopefully I will finish the schema change this week
      • fin
      • alastairp
yeah, hellska's thing now requires a pretty serious architecture change to the AB database
      • so I'm still not 100% certain about the best way to proceed
      • ruaok: perhaps I'll come by the office this week and we can throw around some ideas
      • Freso|koume
        kartikgupta0909, go!
      • ruaok
        alastairp: sure.
      • alastairp
I'd appreciate an in-person sounding board
      • kartikgupta0909
Last week was able to successfully able to upload gaia to the PPA
      • ruaok puts the white boards by the door
      • alastairp
        \o/
      • kartikgupta0909
it built successfully for i386 but failed for amd64
      • also we looked at 5 different formats to store low level data in AB
      • we will be choosing one soon to proceed
      • hellska
alastairp: yeah, I’m doing basic stuff now, if you want me to join for brainstorming let me know
      • Freso|koume
alastairp ruaok, please write up a summary of what you come up with and post on forums. :)
      • kartikgupta0909
and this week I plan to write server and client code to interact with each other
      • to make the job running on the local machine
      • alastairp
Freso|koume: probably as a comment on hellska's database change ticket
      • kartikgupta0909
        fin :)
      • alastairp
        but sure
      • Freso|koume
alastairp, that works too! As long as it's out there in the open. :)
      • I hadn't removed cetko from my list, so cetko if you have anything to say, now's the time. :)
      • Okay then. chirlu, old FreeDB VM at OSUOSL.
      • chirlu
So, the FreeDB gateway is now running on a new VM at Google Compute.
      • ruaok
        \ø_
      • chirlu
Is there anything that is still needed from the old VM at OSUOSL?
      • ruaok
        not here.
      • chirlu
I had a look through the home dirs, but they were mostly empty.
      • Freso|koume
Was there anything on it other than the FreeDB gateway?
      • ruaok
        nope
      • chirlu
And the non-empty ones seem to be checkouts of git repos etc. that should exist elsewhere.
      • ruaok
chirlu: just ask them to terminate that instance and we're done with it.
      • Freso|koume
Might be good to tarball them just in case.
      • ruaok
        Freso|koume: pointless, really.
      • the VM has been treated as disposable.
      • chirlu
I’m not sure it would work, most programs aren’t working on the “rescue system”.
      • OK then, next. :)
      • ruaok
Jira: Sad to say, but there is very likely not going to be an upgrade of jira until MB is running on newhost.
      • LordSputnik
OK, is it still on zas's plate for when he has time?
      • ruaok
as you might've gathered, we're all hands on deck wrt docker right now.
      • Freso|koume
        LordSputnik, ^ is that satisfactory?
      • ruaok
        LordSputnik: yes.
      • now, there is a clear deadline coming.
      • Freso|koume
LordSputnik, I think the point is that zas won't have time for it until after the move. :)
      • ruaok
namely when we bug out of DWNI.
      • LordSputnik
Yup, that's as expected, and also good news that it's still on the cards
      • bitmap
        when is that?
      • ruaok
        bitmap: that depends on us.
      • ASAP, really.
      • bitmap
oh, ok. I thought you meant a deadline was already set
      • ruaok
the switch fiasco showed how fragile things have become.
      • zas
        ^^
      • ruaok
well, there is a deadline of October in my head if I get to go to the GSoC summit.
      • then i'll go recycle everything there.
      • but, jira should be moved well before oct.
      • fin, as far as I am concerned.
      • Freso|koume
I think that's this topic done with. :)
      • ruaok
        sorry the answer isn't better.
      • LordSputnik
        yeah
      • Freso|koume
        ruaok, docker mini meeting!
      • ruaok
ok, I think you should close the main meeting, unless there are other topics.
      • and then anyone else interested in our docker work, stick around.
      • Freso|koume
        Alright.
      • </BANG>
      • Thanks for tonight folks!
      • armalcolite closes some of the merged jira tickets.
      • ruaok
aight. the remainder of the meeting is geared toward zas, bitmap, Gentlecat and myself. and anyone else who wants to chime in.
      • I started this document today to try and keep track of what all needs to be done.
      • and also to set out a bit of a priority order.
      • Freso|koume
ruaok, do you want me to take notes of this and publish them with the meeting notes?
      • ruaok
if you'd like to publish notes on this, then please.
      • Freso|koume
        Alright.
      • ruaok gives everyone a minute to view the doc.
      • ruaok
        thanks, Freso|koume
      • oh, LordSputnik, you too please.
      • I hear you've been looking a bit at docker. you'll need to work with us as well.
      • Freso|koume
It depends a bit on how structured the meeting is. The less structured, the harder it is to make sensible notes. :)
      • ruaok
actually, LordSputnik does BB require any items from MB right now? Connection to the DB?
      • LordSputnik
ruaok: no, only access to the public WS
      • ruaok
going to be very unstructured. mostly just trying to gather people on the same page.
      • LordSputnik: ok, good. then I would suggest that we move BB to a google VM.
      • LordSputnik
I'll take a look in 2 minutes, ordering some pizzas :P
      • ruaok
when you have BB in a docker setup, ping me.
      • I'll spin up a VM for you and we'll move BB there.
      • zas: lets leave the gateway specifics for a minute. I'll skip over those and get back to them later with you.
      • lets look at MusicBrainz, the 800lb gorilla.
      • zas
        k
      • ruaok
bitmap: I bet you're going to create a lot more images than what I dreamt up.
      • please update the list and also indicate which ones are done yet, if any.
      • bitmap
at lease the template-renderer one and probably separate images for postgres-master and postgres-slave
      • least*
      • ruaok
first issue to consider: when zas was here he suggested that bitmap had explored pg-bouncer vs pg-pool issues.
      • chirlu raised some issues on this topic in the doc.
      • bitmap: your thoughts on the move?
      • bitmap
I read a few articles comparing them
      • ruaok
        (bouncer -> pool)
