What is the reason you want to cancel ruaok ? If we do a hack weekend instead, it doesn't change much. Who in BCN can replace ruaok for such event ?
      • CatQuest
(I've had nothing much to report last week either. didn't do much. sorry for missin it by 20 minutes :/)
      • ruaok
my basic feeling right now is to just quit. shut everything down, find a normal job.
      • Freso
ruaok: I'd be happy to run it to the best of my ability, but I'm not familiar with the code base, technicalities of NewHost/Docker/etc., I'm not that familiar with Barcelona, etc.
      • ruaok
        your call, Freso.
      • Freso
ruaok: Will you help me or am I completely on my own?
      • ruaok
I'll participate on the technical aspects. but the hosting/finding meals and all that shit is on you.
      • CatQuest
isn't that the sort of thing freso is for anyway? :P
      • Freso
ruaok: We can do the hacking itself at the office, right?
      • ruaok
depends if you want to have a working bathroom or not. currently not working, unsure if I can get it sorted before the event.
      • Freso
ruaok: Will you (help me) reach out to Google, Spotify, etc.?
      • ruaok
        no.
      • we can absorb the cost for 2-3 people coming.
      • Freso
        Okay.
      • We have three people coming, and it would be good to move the NewHost thing ahead as much as possible so we can start doing other things soon.
      • So let's go ahead.

[picard] zas closed pull request #479: id3: Remove various mutagen hacks which no longer work with newer mutagen (master...remove-mutagen-hacks) https://git.io/vKbBK
      • github has left the channel
      • Freso
It would be good to have bitmap join too though.
      • reosarevok
Does that include bitmap? (since I see he's not listed as attending yet)
      • Oh :)
      • CatQuest
        def get bitmap!
      • zas
        yes.
      • bitmap?
      • CatQuest
        bitmap get!
      • ?????
      • profit!
      • bitmap
if there's still an event, I'll come
      • Freso
        That'd be four people coming.
      • reosarevok
Isn't bitmap the only one that's coming from very far and will be pricey though?
      • Freso
I can try and reach out to Google at least, if I get a contact mail.

      • travis-ci has left the channel
      • Freso
reosarevok: The rest of us are Europeans, yeah.
      • CatQuest
        !m travis-ci
      • BrainzBot
        You're doing good work, travis-ci!
      • CatQuest
        !m Freso
      • BrainzBot
        You're doing good work, Freso!
      • bitmap
        poor me
      • reosarevok
So maybe we can live with four, even though Google help would definitely, er, help
      • CatQuest
bitmap does the best work thoguh
      • Freso
        ruaok: Is that acceptable?
      • ruaok
        fine
      • Freso
        Great. It
      • 's on then. :)
      • JonnyJD joined the channel
      • reosarevok
I'll skip this one I guess since I would be of no help with the whole newhost thing :)
      • I'll be around and online though
      • Freso
15 minutes... well, let's see if it's enough.
      • CatQuest
you cna hang with me reosarevok :P
      • Freso
        Freso: Splitting Discourse's MB category
      • reosarevok
I mean, I should hang with my classmates and not skip school this year then :)
      • reosarevok lets Freso go on
      • Freso
There is both a lot of technical discussion and a lot of more "user(/editor) oriented" discussion currently happening in the MusicBrainz category on Discourse. I have been thinking about making one or more subcategories for a while, and now other people have started to ask for it too, so I guess it's due time.
      • But should it be an "editor" (or "user") sub-category, or a "development"/"technical" one? Or both? A category will, by default, show topics of all sub-categories, so going to /c/musicbrainz will still show everything, so making two subcategories would allow people to visit the one they care about. It is also possible to use /c/musicbrainz/none to only display topics directly in the MusicBrainz category,
      • so that may be the option for those who do not care about the contents of sub-categories.
      • So I can't quite decide on the best approach.
      • reosarevok
I think it makes sense to have a separate dev category
      • Freso
        Yeah.
      • CatQuest agrees with reosarevok
      • LordSputnik
        +1
      • reosarevok
But on the other hand, if that shows still in the main one, it feels kinda weird
      • At least though having a dev cat makes it easier to skip those if desired than having nothing
      • CatQuest
I also think a "halp how do I x" kinda edit" type ones should have its own cat roo
      • reosarevok
        So I'd start with that
      • CatQuest
        too
      • *
      • LordSputnik bows out
      • Freso
        LordSputnik: ?
      • reosarevok
If that's not enough, we can do more later
      • Freso
Alright. What would call the subcategory?
      • reosarevok
We can have a "newbie" category if desired too
      • Not sure if that's useful at the moment yet
      • Freso
        "Technical"? "Development"?
      • reosarevok
        MusicBrainz/Development I guess
      • Freso
But help with VMs etc. aren't really "development" per se.
      • CatQuest
i strongly feel it would help if we had a "editing/interface/musicbrainz issues" cat for things like people asking how to do something, why osmething is doen the way it is or hlep on how to do something with *editing* it would be easier for peopel to look up things too if it had it's on cat
      • I like "techincal" and "editing"
      • .. how about Musicbrainz DevTec
      • Freso
I think it's fine to do just the tech one first. Then we can see how that works out for people and look at it again in a few weeks.
      • CatQuest
that sounds snazy, nd we really aren't that necesarry to be anal about terminaology as long as people understand what its for
      • Freso: yea, sure :)
      • zas
Technical can be subdivided later if needed anyway ;)
      • Freso
        Mhm.
      • reosarevok
Dunno, it's just "technical" doesn't say anything to me
      • CatQuest
yea, I , with limited usderstanding of thiese thnigs. would except "development"
      • Freso
Alright. Let's stick with "Development" then.
      • CatQuest
.. "musicbrainz devel" as an old echo to the old #chan? :D
      • Freso
        And mailing list. :)
      • CatQuest
        yes!
      • it's got history too :D
      • Freso
(Which Discourse is a successor to.)
      • CatQuest
        indeed
      • musicbrainz devel then? :o
      • Freso
(Which I also need to chat with zas about getting done. :p)
      • I'll probably use /c/musicbrainz/devel but call it Development.
      • CatQuest
        done how?
      • :)
      • zas
Freso: about that, we have to move Discourse to gcloud
      • Freso
CatQuest: So that's it's possible to create topics by sending an e-mail and reply to posts by replying by e-mail.
      • CatQuest
DevTec sounds like some kind of Robocop brand
      • Freso
        zas: That's fine.
      • CatQuest
Freso: oh yea, that was missing, and shoudl be doen asap yea
      • Freso
zas: It's basically that we need to set up a Google Mail account for it.
      • Which Discourse can then be configured to check.
      • But let's talk about this post-meeting or some other time.
      • zas
        k
      • Freso
I think we got to a resolution on this point:
      • CatQuest
that way the old mailinglisters (hopefully) also will be involved lei kthey used to
      • Freso
        1) Create /c/musicbrainz/devel and move tech. stuff there.
      • CatQuest
        I volunteer to help!
      • or e i woudl i guess but probably i can't do it
      • Freso
        2) See how /c/musicbrainz fares over the next few weeks and consider/evaluate then if we also want to make a users/editors subcat.
      • CatQuest
also probably i'll be buzy too :(
      • Freso
        Anything I missed?
      • CatQuest
        lgtm
      • Freso
        Alright. It's a wrap then.
      • Thanks for your time!
      • </BANG>
      • CatQuest
        wrap up!
      • Freso
zas: As I said, we basically just need to set up a mail account for it and then configure Discourse to use that. I'd use the already made discourse@meb, but it seems that one forwards to support@, and that would be a bit much. :)
      • Maybe community@meb?
      • CatQuest
        👍
      • zas
        +1
      • CatQuest
how would it know which user? email from?
      • reosarevok
        Sounds reasonable
      • CatQuest
that means I could use my catquest....@gmail then
      • Freso
        CatQuest: I think/guess so.
      • CatQuest
        that's verry good
      • Freso
zas: Want to make a MBH ticket?
      • +me
      • zas
        I can create it now
      • Freso
        Okay. :)

Remove the alias. I don't think it's ever been posted anywhere.
      • I had forgotten all about it too. :p
