      • Freso|laptop
        Alright then.
      • chirlu, public Jira votes!
      • TOPIC: MetaBrainz Community and Development channel | MusicBrainz non-development: #musicbrainz | MeB meeting agenda: reviews, making JIRA votes public (chirlu); postponed: EU & cookies (ruaok)
      • CatQuest
Leo_Verto: radio! (eg together with the "artist" tuff)
      • chirlu
So, on JIRA (already before the upgrade), it is possible for users to vote for particular tickets.
      • CatQuest
(ie do you work for a label, radio etc)
      • Leo_Verto
        ah
      • chirlu
For others (except admins), only the number of votes for a ticket is shown, but not who left the votes.
      • I propose to change that.
      • CatQuest
        question: why?
      • chirlu
Question: Why not? Why should it be secret that I support ticket X?
      • CatQuest
perhaps to dissuade people from doing lal "why didn't you vote for x!!" etc
      • Freso|laptop
Is there any value gained in knowing exactly who voted for a given ticket?
      • ruaok
I don't see a problem with showing who voted for tickets
      • CallerNo6
Makes sense to me. If somebody votes, but doesn't comment, at least you'd know who to ask when looking for comments.
      • LordSputnik
chirlu: why is it useful to know who voted for what?
      • CatQuest
        Freso|laptop: that's what i was thinking
      • LordSputnik
CallerNo6: ah, that I guess is useful...
      • chirlu
One example (that prompted me to propose this):
      • Freso|laptop
I don't see a problem with not showing it either. CallerNo6, how often has that been an issue?
      • CatQuest
CallerNo6: LordSputnik true, but on the other hand perhaps people would want not to be bothered with question about all the tickets they've voted on
      • Leo_Verto
also for example I assume everyone who voted for OTHER-261 actually wants stickers :P
      • chirlu
There was an MBS issue that I didn’t understand. Somebody voted for it, so obviously *they* had understood what it was about.
      • But since I didn’t know who it was, I couldn’t ask them to clarify.
      • CatQuest
you asked on the ticket though, and that wwould have prompted whomever to reply if they wanted to
      • chirlu
And if people don’t want to be bothered, they don’t seem so into the ticket that they should have voted in the first place …
      • ruaok
        I see chirlu's point.
      • CatQuest doesn't really agree
      • chirlu
When someone comments, that’s public, too.
      • CallerNo6
        Freso|laptop, I think it has a /potential/ use if not an /urgent/ one :-)
      • chirlu
(Not only the comment itself, but the identity of who commented, too.)
      • CatQuest
i've voted for *a lot* of tickets over the years. i don't want peopel to start hounding me for reasons why i voted for a ticket (or not)
      • reosarevok definitely would like all votes to be open, but then, I'd like many things to be open :)
      • chirlu: yes but like voting, it's optional, and already obvious that it's going ot be visible
      • do everyone who's voted on every ticet understadn that this will show?
      • reosarevok
I always thought votes were visible to everyone
      • chirlu
We could announce a change on the blog and give people, say, two weeks time to remove votes they don’t want to be seen with.
      • CatQuest
(and also what ticets *havent* been voted on)
      • reosarevok
Didn't realise it's just an admin thing
      • CatQuest
how do yousee what you've voted for?
      • Freso|laptop
CatQuest, you can search/filter for that.
      • I think I can make one that works for whomever is logged in you can use.
      • CatQuest
i mena, i don't *really* care, i just don't want peopel to like. bother me about why or why not i vote for a jira ticket. if i want to talk about it i will comment
      • reosarevok
So non-admins don't get a clickable number of votes?
      • chirlu
Of course, I agree that people should not be pressured into voting/not voting for something. If someone tries that, we should tell them off.
      • reosarevok: No, only a non-clickable number, but it’s configurable who gets what.
      • CatQuest
how about only being visible to people who have accounts?
      • that's like on mb proper
      • Freso|laptop
        That can probably be done.
      • chirlu
That would be fine for me.
      • Since I have an account. ;-)
      • CatQuest
well genreally people who have accounts eithe report bugs or wrk on bugs s oit woudl be thme that cares about who votes for what.. i guess
      • chirlu
So, proposal: 1) blog post to announce the change, 2) two weeks later, make votes visible to users with an account.
      • reosarevok
I'm not even sure we need to announce the change
      • But we haven't had many blog posts lately, so I guess why not :D
      • Freso|laptop
Or maybe just make the change and announce it at the same time, if we're going to make the change.
      • Anyone against chirlu's proposal, say FUZZLE.
      • chirlu
      • ^ should show each user their voted-for issues.
      • Gentlecat
I'd say it's better to announce since thing that was private before is not going to be private anymore
      • Freso|laptop
Anyone for chirlu's proposal, say EH.
      • chirlu
        eh
      • ruaok
        EH
      • CallerNo6
        eh ( but not militantly)
      • CatCat
am i allowed to say "meh" ?
      • reosarevok
        eh
      • Freso|laptop
CatCat, I'm not saying anything either way, as I'm not really convinced either way. :)
      • CatCat
(been typing up reply to leo_verto's thinger)
      • Mineo
the "Filters" dropdown on a jira profile page also has links to votes, votes & open, etc. filters
      • Freso|laptop
        Alright. Motion carried.
      • Anything else anyone want to talk about?
      • chirlu, will you write up a blog post?
      • chirlu
I guess I will have to, unless someone else would like to.
      • CatCat
you're the one that started this
      • Freso|laptop
        Alright then.
      • Moving on.
      • Thanks for tonight!
      • </BANG>
      • TOPIC: MetaBrainz Community and Development channel | MusicBrainz non-development: #musicbrainz | MeB meeting agenda: reviews, EU & cookies (ruaok)
      • CatCat
        Leo_Verto:
      • CatQuest
Leo_Verto: for interfacelanguage: something about asking which interface language they'd use if we had *all* of them. or if they'd just want english anyway..
      • also how familiar with mjority of artists.. that I .. might be you start of with more known stuff nd gradually start "adopting" pet artists and later just do things "for hire" (myself case in point) perhaps a mosre scope-y question: like give a short summary of what kinds of artist(s) you've added (what did you addfirst, what are you adding now, what are you going to add in the future, etc)
      • under knowledge of advanced features: add series, labels, events, places, also maybe a questino about "do you edit" in addition to "do you know" ?
      • been, typing up stuff for you
      • hibiscuskazeneko joined the channel
      • Leo_Verto
        thanks :D
      • chirlu
gcilou/Freso: I have an idea for an easy design task – make a vector replacement for the rating stars: https://github.com/metabrainz/musicbrainz-serve...
      • kyan joined the channel
      • CatQuest
what does "rate 1- 3" mean though? one is have known and 3 is use frequently?
      • Freso|laptop
gcilou, ^ will you enter that?
      • Freso|laptop is signing off for the night
      • Leo_Verto
        CatQuest, better?
      • CatQuest
        natta freso?
      • Leo_Verto: yea :D
      • gcilou
        Freso, chirlu: sure
      • Freso|laptop
CatQuest, not quite yet. Pizza and Dishonored 2 first. =)
      • CatQuest
        \o_
      • Leo_Verto
CatQuest, as for the familiarity with artists, I wouldn't make it too complicated
      • and I was planning to have a "I just love data" option for "Why do you use MB?"
      • CatQuest
oh I have some ideas under "improvement ideas" maybe: "what is the best about" "what is the worst" and "if you could change one thing about (whatever) what woudl you andhow?
      • chirlu
gcilou: Essentially just a five-corner star that can be coloured differently.
      • CatQuest
        Leo_Verto: :D
      • gcilou
        ok
      • reosarevok: that looks sketchy
      • CatQuest imagines all sorts of coloured stars that mean different things to different people (but why not, i'dliek to rate some song as 5 stars of "I love this song" and another 4 stars of "this is a really emotional" (and that's why i like it))
      • reosarevok
gcilou: I'm fairly sure it's legit, but it's probably one minute long weirdly-sounding contemporary classical
      • (I mean, the guy is in MB, so he exists :D )
      • LordSputnik
Leftmost: got time to have a quick look over the changes I pushed yesterday to entity-editing? Then I'll know whether to keep going in the same direction :)
      • CatQuest goes of to eat some more of his birthday cake.. maybe one day you can all have a slice :D
      • CatQuest
        choooocolatecake
      • best cake, mother's recepie..
      • best chocolate cake ever and it doesn't have any actual chocolate in it (only cocoa)
      • samj1912
        lol :P
      • CatQuest
        not lol, awesome
      • samj1912
        hehe yes :P
      • Freso|laptop has quit
      • Leo_Verto
CatQuest, heresy! it must have tiny pieces of chocolate in it
      • CatQuest
        der dro han
      • samj1912 just testing
      • Leo_Verto: it's already made with literally butter, confectionary sugar and cocoa, and eggs, that's the cream, the cake is eggs and sugar and a little bit of flour
      • (and cocoa)
      • CallerNo6
CatQuest, going back, I think every vote or poll should have a "meh" option.
      • CatQuest
        it doenst need chocolate
      • CallerNo6: :D
      • CallerNo6
"Meh" is like the dark matter of human existence.
      • Or the space between atoms.
      • CatQuest
nah, it's the grey. it's all " meh"
      • space between atoms is non-existane, nothing, vacume
      • source: took physics 1 and 2
      • Leftmost
LordSputnik, at work at the moment, but I'll take a peek as soon as I get home.
      • LordSputnik
        Leftmost: ahh of course, OK!
      • CatQuest
Leo_Verto: final? for now, atleast: pretty much every question should have an " eaborate" or "optionally, tell us more" free text field. wheni take surveys, i don't always fill those out, but if theyre not threr I'll miss it when I wanted to elaborate or explain in detail.
      • Leo_Verto
        CatQuest, okay!
      • I'll probably post it to the forums to get some more feedback
      • CatQuest
        good idea!
      • Leo_Verto
and also ask that UX person what they'd want to know
      • CatQuest
I am already thinking botu how to play to some of these questions :D
      • reply not play
      • Leo_Verto
        :D
      • gcilou
      • CatQuest
Leo_Verto: when yo udo, ping or link me the community post (or mention me in it then I'll get pinged on community (and get an email think))
      • Leo_Verto
        will do!
      • CatQuest
        :D
      • gcilou didn't realize she'd miss the meeting
      • gcilou wasn't very productive last week anyway besides messing with college admissions
      • gcilou
oh. Our missing mentor (ohm) should be present sometime this week since his break is starting at school
      • samj1912
hey, are GCI tasks open only to GCI students?
      • gcilou
I mean, people outside of GCI cant complete actual gci *tasks* but they can certainly work on issues
      • CallerNo6
The rule should be, if you close a ticket that was a GCI task, you should have to open two new tickets in its place.
      • gcilou
        lol
