samj1912: No example for Picard sadly https://tickets.metabrainz.org/issues/?jql=%22S...
      • CatQuest
        +1 Gentlecat
      • Freso
Anyway, I'm all for adopting a "beginner" label as well.
      • CatQuest
also true, a house size is huge to me
      • a planet would be near impossible
      • CallerNo6
Anyway, I agree with samj1912 that labels should be used to help newcomers find "starter" issues
      • chirlu
There are only 45 unresolved tickets with a size estimate in total.
      • CatQuest agrees too
      • Freso
CatQuest: We tried renaming them when we decided to use the size estimates, but realised it'd be too cumbersome, as Jira didn't have a good way of renaming the "sizes".
      • chirlu
And we didn’t find five different stone sizes that worked in every English variety. :-)
      • CatQuest
i for one is wht i don't use them, since ithey don't really map to what i feel are"sizes" a house sised taks is like, hell washing the entire house, thats a day's work rightthere
      • Freso
Newer Jira might have made this more approachable, so we may try and look into it again.
      • CatQuest
how about just "beginner" "easy" medium" etc? i mena ,seriously
      • yvanz
I think we miss tickets review just like we have code review.
      • samj1912
I think having just beginner/easy is enough, anything else depends on the dev imho
      • CatQuest
like, regular add instrument ask are really fast and easy, but the alias ones are harder for me
      • dseomn has quit
      • there is a diff between easy and beginner thoguh, as stated
      • also I think maybe having a "easy but timeconsuming" migt be abpliable
      • tigranl
Freso: Machine Learning is mentioned in organization description on the GCI page of MetaBrainz. Where is it used exactly?
      • CatQuest
        applicable
      • anshuman73
        tigranl: in AcousticBrainz and ListeBrainz
      • ListenBrainz*
      • Freso
CatQuest: But that difference is mostly dependent on the dev. (Gentlecat's comment, as I read it, was more that a small task might be difficult (e.g., add instrument aliases for an instrument), but a large task (add all African instruments) might be easy.)
      • Nulxis_
        :)
      • Freso
      • meeting over?
      • CallerNo6
"beginner" seems more important than "easy" to me. "beginner" implies "if you're new to the codebase, this is a good place to start".
      • Freso
anshuman73 tigranl: And MessyBrainz, I think.
      • samj1912
        yeah
      • Freso
        And mbspotify.
      • samj1912
        I agree with CallerNo6
      • CatQuest
Freso: exactly why "easy but time consuming" contra hard (large)
      • Freso
Nulxis_: Yes. The </BANG> signified the end of the meeting.
      • Nulxis_
        Freso
      • CatQuest
        +1 CallerNo6
      • Nulxis_
        Freso I submitted :)
      • Freso
The stuff between <BANG> and </BANG> is the meeting.
      • dseomn joined the channel
      • CallerNo6: +1
      • CallerNo6
^ the <BANG> metaphor being "banging a gavel"
      • yvanz
samj1912: That could be linked to from https://musicbrainz.org/doc/Development/Introdu...
      • CallerNo6: +3
      • samj1912
yeah, CallerNo6 and me had a discussion about an easy entry point for new contributes to our ecosystem
      • I think this will definitely help
      • CatQuest
so like ho many "sizes" is there?
      • so like "beginnier" "small/easy" "easy but timeconsuming" "medium" "difficult" "hard but not time consuming" "this is never getting done" ?
      • gcilou
Nulxis_: your mentors can see when your tasks are submitted :) Give them proper time to review. thanks!!
      • CatQuest
since *we* decide the labels its not to say that they have to be a scale of increase
      • that's not how dffculty i
      • s
      • Freso
CatQuest: The "Size Estimates" (which is not a difficulty estimate) goes House → Village → City → Country → Planet
      • CatQuest
        ho. oh
      • to me everything is "huge" there
      • Freso
Which is why we wanted to rephrase them.
      • CatQuest
don't see the diff of a village and a city, both are hugeass
      • yes!
      • yvanz
        Freso, CatQuest: +56
      • CatQuest
so size estiamtes but the first is a beginner task?
      • ok wait let me think
      • yvanz
        (on a scale of 25)
      • CatQuest
what an oddly spesific numbe, and yet not 42
      • CallerNo6
heh, maybe "newcomer" instead of beginner, to continue the "place" metaphor
      • Freso
      • CatQuest
"beginner", "small", "small but time consuming", "medium" "big but easy" "large" "this is never getting done" "something something you mama"
      • samj1912
        lol :P
      • CatQuest
Freso: i was here when yo usaid that, and thne yo usaid about new jira maybe beign better for it so i'm commig up with ideas
      • dude, I'm a bit tired, not completely blind :P
      • yvanz
Freso: -7 on a soft curve desillusion.
      • samj1912
night people its 2:50 and I have a flight to catch in the morning :P
      • CatQuest
anyway i should make myself soem food while i ignore my stupid neigbour
      • \o samj1912
      • but my point about it not being a f.ex logaritmic scale still stands, we can easily label them (if we can rename them) with things more spesific to different levels of work" effort, so mundane timeconsuming tasks which are easy, contra a big, "difficult" task which might not at al lbe to long to do
      • samj1912
vacations end and college begins day after :P Ill try to keep up with the vacation mode me in terms of contributing :)
      • CatQuest
s/ contra a big, task which might not at all be to diificult
      • contra big long and timeconsuing tasks
      • contra ditto but also difficult
      • yvanz
CatQuest: At least, when closing a ticket, you know you did as much as a “house”, it is still better than a “peanut” or something. :)
      • CatQuest
honestly adding an instrument like this is like.. idk, a chair, some are almsot a sofa
      • the aliases are definitely an entire room to a house
      • Freso
samj1912: We're still a hobby for you. Be sure to give enough attention to your studies. We'll still be here. :)
      • CatQuest
and if everything goes right you might become a hired dev some day :P
      • Freso
CatQuest: Just put "doll" in front of everything. "Doll house", "doll village", "doll city", ...
      • yvanz
        CatQuest: Everyone appreciate sofas!
      • CatQuest
what, me groom our gci students? perish the thought!
      • the frank is a doll city? like lego?
      • yvanz
        !m samj1912, the flying picard.
      • BrainzBot
You're doing good work, samj1912, the flying picard.!
      • CatQuest
        XD
      • what do I do to wanna add a languageto the locale thinger?
      • for example there is this instrument that's called su' in the Jakaltek language
      • Freso
CatQuest: Make an MBS ticket, I think.
      • CatQuest
        ak
      • erh ok
      • chirlu
No, locales can’t be added like that.
      • CatQuest
        neihei
      • chirlu
Languages can. (More precisely, they can be activated if they already are in the list.)
      • Nulxis_
        Freso :)
      • CatQuest
so the asnwer is_: ask someone to see if "Jakaltek" is in it, and if so please activate it, but if it isn't it's.. uh
      • uh somehow my linked thing in my review was wrong
      • and i didn't notice until now
      • ugh stupid discourse
      • yvanz
chirlu: What about the qaa-qtz range?
      • Freso
And that "asking someone" is still basically "make a Jira ticket".
      • And if Jakaltek isn't in, that Jira ticket is used for tracking if/when it makes it in.
      • CatQuest
hmm having the hira have the same favico as discourse is confusing :/
      • so I *do* the mbs or then
      • also cna you give me a link to the place in the chatlogs where i started talknig about it?
      • please thank you
      • chirlu
        yvanz: What about it?
      • Freso
I'd file it under MBS, yes.
      • CatQuest: In a second. About to review a video.
      • yvanz
chirlu: We could use it to add Jakaltek and other languages.
      • chirlu
Even if we could (I don’t think we should, but that’s immaterial), it would only give a language, not a locale.
      • So you could mark a work as being written in $language, but not an alias as being from one of $language’s locales.
      • CatQuest
Freso: no worries: take your time, no stress
      • chirlu: and that's... actually pretty usefull if we coudl do that
      • yvanz
chirlu: Right, it just about language and it would not help on CatQuest issue.
      • CatQuest
or rather, if one could makr something as being a "script" rather thna langauge/locale

CAn someone apprive the meeting task?
      • CatQuest
well it's at the very least tangiental
      • , it has to do with things being easier to alias
      • Nulxis_
Freso why did you send it back??
      • Freso
Nulxis_: Are there are comments with a question on the task?
      • CatQuest
freso is currently reviewing another persons taks
      • Freso
        *any

bitmap: Not sure if you saw MBH-462. It’s likely it can only be investigated before the next release/deployment.

I saw an email for it, thanks for creating that
      • I'll definitely investigate it before the release today
