ruaok and other Barcelonians: I will spend a few days in Barcelona around April 1st
how about I pass by the metabrainz HQ? (and bring some icelandic chocolate of course)
ruaok
you should come and visit us in the office?
yep. :)
loujine
\o/
ruaok
wooo, that sounds great. maybe in the late afternoon and then we can go for dinner afterwards?
loujine
I'll have to check, I'm coming for a long week-end with some friends so I don't know yet when I'll be free
I'll probably leave on Monday evening or Tuesday
ruaok
k, ping us closer to the time and we'll sort it. that weekend seems clear so far.

Doe's anyone know where I can find a definitive list of "joinphrases", like: ' & ', ' feat. ', ' vs. ' ?
*Does.. (doe's?)
ruaok
there isn't a definitive list, except for the contents of a database table
meaning that we don't have pre-set list. people enter whatever they need.
the list is 4,221 items long. :)
Lotheric
avec, med, con, x
;)
ruaok
feat
r_dunn
right.. thanks for the info
ruaok
posting this list would likely be a good hint at what needs cleaning up. there are lots of things that don't look right.

Question about the server css and the docs. If anybody remembers. Were the header styles on the server chosen with the docs in mind? Or is it a sitewide thing that just happens to be applied to docs as well?
MBS-5906 is a result of header styles in layout.less, from what I can tell.
Leftmost: have you coffeed? (is it morning where you are?) are you avail for some BB questions?
ruaok isn't sure why Leftmost is still up
Leftmost
It's very early where I am, but I'm up late and for the foreseeable future. (And I've had a significant quantity of masala chai.)
ruaok, I've been sick over the last week. My sleep schedule is now all over the map.
ruaok
booo, sucky. hope you get well soon.
ruaok still has bits of a hacking cough from the last week
Leftmost
Thanks.
I love Missoula, but it has two disadvantages: the nature of the valley lends itself to sinus infections, and it's not technically recognized as part of Canada yet.
Quesito
mmmmm chai, complex and quite delicious....let me know if you are up for some q's, if not we can touchbase another time. hope you get to feeling better :)
Leftmost
I'm up for some questions, as long as I don't have to move my toes out from under warm blankets.
Leftmost is proud of the chai: he used homemade chai masala for it.
Quesito
Missoula--I think i had a pretty epic sandwich there once....
Leftmost
Hmm. Epic sandwich... Staggering Ox?
Freso
reosarevok: We should ask the BBC to be better at telling artists how to find their MBID.
reosarevok
Yeah, I guess - but who?
Freso
And by "we" I mean whomever has contact with the BBC.
reosarevok
njh maybe
Quesito
Leftmost: sounds close to what i remember.
reosarevok
ruaok: do we have any better BBC contact to pester or is njh still the most appropriate?
Quesito
Leftmost: can you tell me a little general bit at where you are at with BB?
ruaok
even njh is appropriate anymore -- he's off on some BBC tangent right now. and Sara G has left to you YT. And she didn't pass off the relationship yet, meh.
I guess I need to chase this up and then let you know who it is. I'll get back to you.

We're able to take in data, but our editing interface is pretty terrible. We've been focusing on improving that; the new interface for the first of the five entity types is in place, but we need to finalize designs for the other four, which will be trickier. We have no web service, and some tech debt to address before we can get started on one.
Quesito
Leftmost: I googled--yes I believe epic sandwich was from staggering ox. now I'm hungry.
reosarevok
Thanks ruaok. thuaok
Leftmost
(Is that sufficiently clear? Let me know if you need more.)
Quesito
yes--what kind of tech debt?
ruaok
thouak from the jungle is glad to help!
Leftmost
Our data access layer is a bit of a nightmare. It does the job right now, but it will make constructing the objects for the web service unnecessarily difficult.
The idea is to make it present the useful objects as-is, so the web service can just be a translator between routes and objects.
(Which will also make for more useful objects in the site code.)
Leftmost: no no worries (at least for the moment) Can you tell me the goals of BB?
samj1912
It's another Foss org, they are looking for an open source audio fingerprinter and audio analyzer, I was thinking of recommending acoustid and acoustic brainz to them
Freso
I think they had a GSoC task last your for doing some music/audio analysis stuff, and I went to tell them about AB and essentia.
*year
samj1912
Yeah :p
They have the same this year
Freso
But yes, go ahead and go and tell them about it. ;)
samj1912
And I did the same :p
Quesito
Leftmost: I'm looking for more overview--but it also helps to know your sticking points at the moment.
Freso
:)
Quesito
Leftmost: it also seems the openlib has last been touched in 2015, is there any relationship with them (besides our CAA) ?
samj1912
Acoustid is open-source too right?
Freso
5:40 hours until GSoC org. reveal!
samj1912: Yes.
Also, IIRC, AcousticBrainz as such isn't really relevant to what they do, but Essentia might be.
samj1912
Cool :D
They wanted beat detection
Leftmost
For me, I see the goal being to create a resource which can provide for books what MB does for music: sufficient comprehensiveness to be useful to the average user, sufficient simplicity to allow most anyone to jump in and add something, sufficient potential for complexity to at least be expandable to serve a wide variety of needs.
Freso
"You will write Analyzers to calculate [a number of things]" - this is what Essentia does.
Quesito
ok this is what I assumed/hoped :)
samj1912
Not sure if acoustic brainz might help with that, but since they wanted to tag audio assets, i just recommended it to them in case they wanted to expand on that
Leftmost
And an editing system which is both easy to work with (easier than MB's) and powerful enough to keep our data quality high.
Freso
samj1912: Yes, but beat detection is in the low-level, so that's by essentia. Essentia is a step before AB. :)
AcoustID might work well for the fingerprinting though.
Leftmost
As far as OL, there's no direct relationship. I'd like to keep track of OL IDs as one of our possible identifiers, but that's all on our side.
Freso
Ah, except that they want "to provide song detection (like shazam)". AcoustID can't do that.
Quesito
ok, and right now as explained above you are trying to fix the editing interface
Do we have a lot of data in BB currently?
Leftmost
Part of the reason I wanted to create BB was that OL was struggling even that many years ago and didn't make contributing code easy. In the end, I think they had different goals anyhow.
Some, but not a lot.
Quesito
It does seem that OL exists...but is not being used...
ok--so you need quite a bit of work on the editing interface, what else do you need?
