        hi
      • Freso
        leaper: Hello :)
      • jwf
Big shout-out to the ListenBrainz team, just now saw that the Last.fm importer tool uses usernames (maybe it's been like this for a while but I haven't checked for a long time).
      • Super excited to see that project grow and develop :)
      • jwf just imported ~185,000 scrobbles
      • leaper
i am new to open source and GSOC .i know python,C,C++,MySQL,Mongodb and am interested in these two projects 1.picard(pyqt5/py3), 2.BookBrainz(Data Importing) am i eligible and any help where to start
      • Freso
        jwf: :)
      • leaper: Yes. Read the guide linked to from the GSoC page.
      • jwf: Note that LB will move from alpha to beta Soon™ and will drop all current data in the process, since the beta will have a much better way of importing Last.fm data (ie., will retain more details) than the current one. Just a heads up. :)
      • JonnyJD joined the channel
      • (The old data will be preserved and can be reimported from an archived "alpha" site for a while at least as well, e.g., if you've sent listens directly to LB.)
      • jwf
Freso: I saw that disclaimer, I don't mind the database being blown away while it's being developed. I'm mostly excited for its potential and I'm more than happy to contribute some listening data for it in the meanwhile.
      • Freso
        jwf: :)
      • iliekcomputers
jwf: so happy to see this :)
      • we're planning on adding statistics soon also, as soon as it moves to beta :)
      • jwf
iliekcomputers: Are you of the developers?
      • Oh, awesome!!
      • iliekcomputers
jwf: I have been contributing some code, yeah, but I'm more of a volunteer than a core dev
      • jwf
iliekcomputers: Awesome, thanks for your time working on the project regardless. :)
      • iliekcomputers
        :D
      • antlarr
samj1912: I didn't have time in the last couple of weeks to work on that. I'll try to work on it this afternoon and tomorrow, and let's see if I can create some pull request (about album cover diff)
      • alastairp
iliekcomputers: don't be so modest, you've contributed more code than any of us over the last 2 months :)
      • iliekcomputers
        alastairp: :)

        zas yes, and 2.0
      • antlarr are you working on the image diff box?
      • Or album level cover art diffs?
      • zas
well, i'm ok with most of your suggestions, i wouldn't merge more PRs for 1.4.1, i was expecting the album cover art PR from antlarrr, but i guess we can just freeze now, and release soon, mostly because of the macosx drag'n'drop fix
      • once 1.4.1 is released, we target 2.0dev1, being mostly Qt5 + Py3 bare port of 1.4.1
      • samj1912
        Yes 635 can go in
      • I am thinking we can do a freeze tomorrow and switch the branch to 2.0 dev and continue dev on qt5 atleast
      • zas
        yes, seems a good plan
      • samj1912
        Cool
      • I am going to start working on one last pr for 1.4.1 today
      • I want to get that merged
      • Basically a refactored img diff info box
      • Meanwhile, hopefully antlarr can finish his
      • alastairp
iliekcomputers: when you work on tickets, please remember to set yourself as the assignee, and set the status to in progress

LB-122: Album MSID and album name get lost during the insert to influx listenstore https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/LB-122
      • alastairp
yeah, that's the one I saw
      • thanks
      • iliekcomputers
no problem, I'm not very used to the JIRA workflow :)
      • alastairp
        neither am I
      • but now that jira is shiny and has new features, I'm trying to get into it more
      • iliekcomputers
I have also been trying to open tickets in JIRA before sending PRs for bug fixes. Would be good to have bugs documented for the future.
      • The more data the better :)
      • alastairp
iliekcomputers: regarding python 3, it would be interesting to see how easy it is to just run 2to3, and change the docker containers to use python 3.5
      • I suspect we'll have very few issues

      • iliekcomputers
alastairp: I'll do this tonight and report back. If there aren't many issues and moving doesn't take much effort, we should do it.
      • alastairp
yeah. and much faster to do earlier
      • I write all my new stuff in py3 now
      • iliekcomputers
I'd read news that django was gonna stop supporting python2 some time soon, I don't think we should wait for flask to do the same :P
      • would probably have to take a look at messybrainz also, right?
      • alastairp
        yep, that's right
      • the big thing is that there will be no more security updates for python 2.7 after 2020
      • which is what django is basing their decision on
      • they don't want to have an active long-term-support version of django which can run on an unsupported version of python
      • iliekcomputers
        makes sense
      • alastairp
I believe that Gentlecat already uses py3 in metabrainz and critiquebrainz
      • iliekcomputers
were they originally in python2 or 3? I knew CB was py3 but I thought it was py3 from the beginning.
      • alastairp
        it may have been
      • but it was started... 4? years ago
      • so quite possible that it wasn't
      • it's in my plans to move to py3 for acousticbrainz some time this year too

      • did you see my commit to remake the cover art box when the album has different covers in different tracks?
      • Leo_Verto
Freso, yeah, I agree with that but I'd also like to introduce the feature and ask whether it should stay on
      • antlarr
        s/to remake/to draw all images/
      • Freso
Leo_Verto: There's a ticket in Jira for enabling it... :)
      • Leo_Verto
if that's the case, I'd work a bit on it, e.g. to allow deleting stuff
      • huh

      • Leo_Verto
Freso, you just added BrainzBot as the component, that's cheating!
      • Freso
Leo_Verto: Well, it was created before the BrainzBot component existed.
      • Same for https://tickets.metabrainz.org/projects/OTHER/i... which I also just added to the component.

      • samj1912
antlarr can you link to your branch?
      • antlarr
I have most of the work done here: https://github.com/antlarr/picard/tree/samj1912... but this afternoon I have to rebase everything and I'll open another branch. It just got too messy when I was working against your branch since everything was moving too fast and got too many conflicts
