akashn97, about the 1-picture limit, that's because of how Discourse does 'trust levels' for new users. You can ask one of the MeB employees to bump up your trust level.

As a temporary measure, you can create a post on commumity.meb that links to a gist.

Lastly, if you decide to make a temporary gist, I can copy/paste it into your proposal post.

So i was looking into the Authentication part of my project. And the most obvious way to go is OAuth.

And if we are going with koa.js then we can use 'koa-oauth-server' which seems to be well documented and supported.

justharshal: the problem is, we want to use single sign on with MusicBrainz

And OAuth seems to require a GUI to support that

(it's what we're using for the site)

Since the user has to give permission that BookBrainz can access the data stored in MusicBrainz

LordSputnik: So if a person has a bookbrainz account then they'll be shown a GUI and be asked to authorize but if they've already authorized musicbrainz then they won't have to see another authorization screen?

justharshal: no, there is only a MusicBrainz account, which they use to sign into BookBrainz. Then once they're logged in, they can generate keys on their profile which are stored in BookBrainz

This is the way MetaBrainz site does it I think - you log in with your MusicBrainz credentials, and then can generate a key to access the MusicBrainz WS

Well the site would stay on OAuth, but then we'd add a new, simpler separate authentication system for the web service

zas: what was up with the increased load across the servers last night? if it wasn't added load, any idea where it came from?

nope, not yet, i checked logs, i couldn't find exact source, not a single IP or UA, it was only on the website, and it happened also the previous day (but not as much)

i'll set up website rate limiting

i didn't do it last night because it is difficult to tune and it's a critical app (gateways), but i planned to do it this afternoon

we started another mb website + ws on williams to mitigate the slow down, but it was not that great, since the load on bowie pg was too high

i discussed with bitmap about that, since it appears twice req/s (compared to usual values) on mb website leads to serious issues

in fact the load was multiplied by 7 when the req/s was multiplied by 2... not great. On the positive side, bitmap said he made progress on speeding up template system which is the main source of ressource consumption. In the meantime, i'll try to set up smart rate limiting to keep loads at decent values when such thing happens

the event started at 14::05 yesterday, and the day before, we'll know soon if it happens also today

it suddenly ended this morning at 8:00
