noci, SothoTalker_: Does anyone know if it's being worked on? It's kind of painful
      • SothoTalker_
it is known, but i don't know what the plans are

samj1912: Its always nice to know that we have loads of interested people, but I do wonder if Stars are the best way for us to let users know what is happening to Picard.

      • SotoTalker_: Is it just global load?
      • SothoTalker_: Is it just global load?
      • SothoTalker_
        yeah
      • Sophist-UK
Hmm - perhaps we should prioritise the user agents that produce the fewest calls.
      • SothoTalker_
        upping the limit :)
      • antgel
        Thanks!
      • Sophist-UK
SothoTalker_: Upping the limit (by providing more capacity) is the best solution, howeverin the mean time, down prioritising the biggest load will put the pain where it will do the least harm, and let other agents who are not causing the overload get their requests met.

oh hai, where can I find the picard 2 dev? (for mac 10.7 ostensibly)
      • Sophist-UK
(This is similar to prioritising CPU in an o/s scheduling algorithm - the heaviest CPU load gets the lowest priority.)
      • Mineo
blup, I think there are no pre-built packages for osx for the current development version

Sophist-UK: the plan is to change the api to require a key
      • Sophist-UK
SothoTalker_: Perhaps I am being dense, but how will an API key fix this problem?
      • SothoTalker_
        less users
      • noci
people will have to make an effort
      • unfortunately I guess it will break all existing libraries
      • Mineo
zas, can you set a release date for https://tickets.metabrainz.org/projects/PICARD/... ?
      • zas
        Mineo: done
      • Sophist-UK
SothoTalker_, noci: Is less users a win? I guess if those users are some sort of capacity leech, making requests for no benefit, then eliminating them would be a win - but there would presumably also be better ways of chucking them off than requiring an API. Otherwise I am unclear how requiring an API and reducing the number of users is a win.

        Sophist-UK: i never said it's a win.

        True.
      • API key: -1 from me.

API keys would never be required for ws/2 access. If we require them, there will be a ws/3 API, which may be backward compatible....

      • ruaok
let's do it. its a bad time.
      • I would suggest two hours earlier.
      • Freso
        👍
      • Still Monday?
      • How does 2 hours earlier work for USians?
      • ruaok
yea, I think that is good.
      • cali time moves from noon to 10am.
      • bitmap would move from 2pm to noon, I think.
      • Freso
That sounds like it's probably still fine.
      • Would make it much easier on the Indians.
      • ruaok
we have no regulars from cali. and I hope bitmap can do that.
