Moin everyone!!, I've written the first draft of my GSoC final work product (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HFlsiMFDBSc...). Please suggest corrections and edits. Thanks :)

Morning people. I don't suppose anyone knows anything about the Listenbrainz server setup? I've followed the readme and can access the webserver running on localhost but it's not on port 8080 like the document says. Also I get this error when trying to sign in and I'm redirected to musicbrainz.org - "mismatched redirect uri".

      • iliekcomputers
marc2k3: the default port is 80, that is an inconsistency in the readme
      • marc2k3: when you registered an app on MB, what callback url did you use?
      • marc2k3
        http:/localhost/login/musicbrainz/post
      • And there it is -probably that missing backslash--- doh!
      • Yep, that was it. I feel rather silly now....
      • Anyway, thanks for the pointer. :)
      • iliekcomputers
        no problem :)
      • marc2k3
While I'm here, if I were to make changes, do I simply cancel the running server and then start it again running develop.sh? Will it notice the changes automatically or are there other steps?
      • I know nothing about linux, python etc. :P
      • iliekcomputers
marc2k3: it'll notice changes in the webserver automatically
      • marc2k3: but there are scripts like influx-writer and bigquery-writer which don't restart with changes in them
      • marc2k3
        Cool, thanks for your help.
      • iliekcomputers
        o/
      • marc2k3
The main reason I installed it is so I can spam it with bad requests to make a better client. It's unlikely I'll touch the server but you never know.
      • iliekcomputers
we should have a page listing submission clients, I think.

Mine is just about feature complete now. It can submit MBIDs, cache scrobbles when offline/LB is down and bulk submit but of course there are bound to be bugs I haven't discovered yet. Of course it won't interest many in this channel as it's for foobar2000 which is a proprietary application which runs on a proprietary operating system. But it's on discourse for anyone who wants to take a look.
      • Sophist-UK
mark2k3 - Any chance we can interest you in writing a Kodi plugin for Listenbrainz?

      • marc2k3
Sophist-UK: I think it's unlikely. I have no real experience programming except tinkering with one particular foobar2000 component which gives me acess to all the API features I need. It's highly doubtful anything I know from that will transfer to another application I've never even used before. Still, if there was an existing last.fm plugin, it might be possible to rewrite that??
      • Sophist-UK
If it was that easy I would write it myself. I think Kodi stuff is written in Python and I can code in Python - but no experience of Kodi itself.
      • marc2k3
If there was an existing last.fm plugin, most of the hard stuff would already be implemented such as tracking how much a track has played (LB uses the same rules), reading tags, hopefully caching on failure etc. The only bits that need changing would be the web requests and handling of the response.
      • Leftmost
Does LB now have a last.fm-compatible API?

Sophist-UK: is there a Kodi dev channel where we might try to find someone?
      • Sophist-UK
        No idea.
      • Just use Kodi on my Amazon Fire Stick.

        Hey guys!
      • I am new here.
      • Can anyone tell me how to get started?
      • zas
Welcome raman, how to get started on what ?
      • raman
Like what should I do so that I can start contributing to the projects
      • zas
If you're a developper you may have a look at https://tickets.metabrainz.org, pick up a ticket (a low hanging fruit to start with) and ask for help here if needed. Code is mainly at https://github.com/metabrainz/
      • ^^ descriptions on main projects
      • raman
Can I pick up a difficulty:newcomer issue and work on it?
      • Is this possible?
      • zas
        Sure
      • FYI, our projects are mainly written in Python, apart MusicBrainz Server which is written in Perl
      • We have also a lot of html/js/sql code ofc
      • raman
I am familiar with python and java
      • also c and c++
      • but I would still prefer to work using python
      • zas
Search servers are written in Java, help is needed on SOLR: https://github.com/metabrainz/mb-solrquerywriter, ping Mineo & Gentlecat about it
      • ListenBrainz is written in Python, ruaok & alastairp may help you on that
      • raman
Are the issues on github labelled?
      • like difficulty:newcomer
      • so that I can address them first and understand the workflow
      • samj1912
raman we use Jira for tracking our issues
      • you can find them here tickets.metabrainz.org
      • raman
        I just signed up there
      • samj1912
you can also look at https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Development/Summer... for more help
      • raman
        nice this will help ^^
      • this is showing issues in all the languages
      • what can I do if I want to see newcomer issues in python only
      • samj1912
        they are all python projects

If anyone who actually uses the thing and wants to use LB talks to them, that might be useful :p
      • Leo_Verto
speaking of LB, I have the same question as Leftmost, how do I use the last.fm compat api?
      • apparently people have managed to get spotify working with libre.fm so maybe LB could also work that way
      • Leftmost still can't get into Spotify.
      • reosarevok
As in, they won't let you in?
      • Leo_Verto
I was pretty critical of it myself for quite a while, but honestly, it's just so damn great!
      • like when I had started using it for a while and songs I used to listen to years ago started popping up in my weekly mixes
      • and then there are the radio stations which manage to identify and seperate the different types/moods of music I listen to which is just awesome
      • agentsim joined the channel
      • Leftmost
I can't bear to pay for music I can't keep.
      • marc2k3
Sophist-UK: is kodi some sort of joke? I've never been more enraged in all my life trying a new bit of software. It's clearly not for desktop users such as myself.
      • reosarevok
Leftmost: don't think of it as paying for music, but paying for a service :p
      • agentsim has quit
      • Leo_Verto
well, you can use the desktop version without having to pay for anything :P
      • Leftmost
        Yeah, but ads.
      • Leo_Verto
although spotify might wonder why all of it's queries to any of the ad servers all resolve to localhost…
      • Leftmost
reosarevok, I can barely bring myself to pay for Netflix, and that's only because there's no good way to buy video.
      • Leo_Verto
I did end up getting premium earlier this month though, the convenience of Spotify on my phone just is too great
      • I used to be firmly in the "I buy my music" camp but I've just discovered tons of music I wouldn't have come across or bought whole albums of the other way
      • Leftmost
I depend on word of mouth.
      • Leo_Verto
I just don't know anyone who shares the same taste in music that I do, the closest I got before Spotify was plug.dj
      • Leftmost
I depend on reo for some of it. :P
