STYLE-835: Block adding Wikipedia relationships to anchors
      • reosarevok
(something like "Anchor Wikipedia links can't be added, see the <a>guidelines</a>")
      • ruaok is up to $13,5000 of missing invoices that should've been sent in the past, but weren't. sigh.
      • sampsyo joined the channel
      • hey sampsyo! Do you happen to have some extra GCI tasks for UX and QA you can add? https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Google_Code-in/201... ;)
      • (other types work too, but we need those the most)

reosarevok: Not currently, but this is a planned feature for URL validation.
      • Custom validation messages were cancelled from last year refactoring, but still part of the design. :)

Hmm. Ok. I guess we can add the guideline about anchors already, but not change validation yet (or people would be very confused)

      • yvanzo: added https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-9515 - feel free to link it to a validation ticket if there's one :)

why do we do that tho?
      • I mean especially for soundtracks
      • often there will be the section instead
      • drsaunde has quit
      • I think weshould alllow anchors *until* we ban wikipedia pages outrigt
      • I mean, just because the wikipedia blurb on the pages show the wrong tt it isn't a good enough reason
      • i mena that owuld be the reason ot remove wikidata links form, eg norwegian artists
      • that automatically
      • link the nglsih 2 sentence blurb
      • instead of the longer, more complete norwegia non
      • wich happens
      • all the
      • time
      • it also prefers the swedish one over the norwegian one
      • and that makes no sence ofr a norwegian artist!
      • I wish I could set which blurb to prefer to show, and then that would be overrided only by user prefrence (if up was for example)
      • "only show german" thne it would
      • anyway I'd like some telemetry of what blurb language is chosen
      • since right now it's just stupid
      • ir should chose: language of the wikipedia that matches artist county, *unless user has a preference, thne show prefrence
      • it should: choose "english" unless, other languaage blurb is significantl longer
      • *unless user has a preference, then etc
      • and so on and so forth
      • CallerNo6 has quit
      • choose the language blur that matches interface language

The language choice is definitely something that needs to happen. Or some sort of "language switcher" by the abstract or something

ruaok: you deleted his MB, or MeB account on Oct. 3? unclear what 'his account' means
      • ruaok
        MB
      • reosarevok
The anchor thing only causes problems though, and it goes against the idea of the WP rels - X is the page for Y, not "the section of a page for Y" :p
      • (and nothing in our system is well designed for it)
      • bitmap
ruaok: you never deleted his MeB one?
      • ruaok
        correct.
      • should still be there.
      • bitmap
well, I think it's gone, at least I didn't see any user row named 'Gentlecat'
      • but I cannot find any logs to see how/when it was deleted
      • this deletion would have also silently removed the OB oauth_client row
      • ruaok
yeah, I can't find one either. I guess I did erase it as well when I did his MB account.
      • for sure.
      • I removed no accounts until I fixed the login issues.
      • chhavi_
ruaok: I know it's a classic bad time to remind you. But once you are back from Paris, I will love to run you through the mockups, hopefully, should have more of it by then :)
      • bitmap
it's unfortunate neither of you remembered if you deleted it since I think that's important to the timeline. I'd like to think he deleted it before sept. 18 then and forgot the OB keys were attached
      • ruaok
        I'd like that. :)
      • (that was to chhavi_)

      • in the 3 servers I just checked (bootsy, zappa, bowie), he still has .bash_history and .psql_history files intact, so I don't see evidence of him scrubbing anything... what did you mean by that?
      • ruaok
the .ssh directory is gone, which server setup installs.
      • bitmap
in an email he told me that he deleted all his .ssh stuff on sept. 6 so that he no longer had access to the servers
      • ruaok
ok, in the interest of stopping this witch hunt... I assume all responsibility.
      • I fucked up. I deleted the account. I'm sorry that I accused you Gentlecat.
      • now, can we please go back to doing more useful things?
      • bitmap
sure, I just thought it important nobody is wrongfully accused and he isn't remembered as an evil guy who tried to sabotage MB (which I don't think is in his character)
      • without hard evidence at least
