      • Reviewed a bunch of good PRs from GCI students, thanks :)
      • anshuman73 is here, nothing to report for the week except 2-3 BB GCI tasks looked at an hour back
      • Dealed with a few issues and continued work on spam/attributes

      • hi!
      • Second week of the year was mad!
      • Did quite a lot of gci - managed to do a fair bit of editing
      • (I had rented a lot of releases expecting to be able to do them over the holydays, but between my macomputer breaking and gci it was mad rush at the end)
      • Had some issues with one student doing a copyright violation, but that seems to have solved itself - super thanks to reosarevok for speedy deletions notices.
      • I've selected *my* five finalists and I'm looking forward to discussing who we're going to pick with everyone later in the week!
      • Mostly today I've spent stocking up for mega-sudden cold weather (-11?!) that's arriving next week, I'm glad I have a fireplace!
      • This week I hope to get my mac back and/or to start adding all the instruments that where researched by students for gci!!
      • fin!
      • next is.. why not naiveai ?

        Hello!
      • Currently working on OTHER-321, which is a pretty exciting little BrainzBot plugin. Did a little work on MusicBrainz, both the server and some editing (thanks yvanzo, bitmap, Major_Lurker!). End of GCI is almost coming up, so I’d like to say just a little bit about it.
      • BrainzBot
OTHER-321: Brainzbot Plugin for Counting Votes. https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/OTHER-321
      • naiveai
Thank you! Thank you all so much for putting up with my confused, clueless, sometimes downright rude, and faceless persona and still helping me learn so much. Thank you all for being as dedicated as you are. I’ve learnt a whole lot, both about raw programming and about the whole craft of software from this little adventure. Really the most important thing I learnt is that I’ll never learn all of it
      • :D. I hope I’ll be a good community member in the future. :) fin.

Hi all, this is my first time to attend the meeting,
      • so my name is Hartama I’m 17 y.o rn, so this will be my last GCI experience.
      • I've doing regular data task, designing a badge for BB achievements trough GCI task, adding some URLs relationship to MB, doing some docs task with picard-website.
      • And this week, I’m have done design task creating vector drawing visually explains differences between Release Group from Release, Track from Recording, and Recording from Work.
      • Hope i can contributing in other way, out of GCI and hope can helps with design.
      • And I’m going away for a while as my school held an event outside, stay overnight with no internet connection, see you later :)
      • Thanks

        You're doing good work, haruute!
      • haruute
        fin,
      • Freso
Thanks for checking in haruute, and thanks for all the work you've done for us over the last few weeks. Hope to continue to see you around. :) (Remember to pick next to go!)
      • (People still up: Leo_Verto, Ashish, spellew – anyone else?)

ohh, sure :) next > ashish
      • UmkaDK has quit
      • Ashish
Practically I have been working on a recording tutorial on how to add a classical release to musicbrainz, learnt a lot of things thanks to Freso & reosarevok their mentoring. I hope this will prove to be helpful : ) & most of all I am just enjoying it. I would really appreciate their dedication & hard work
      • Thank you all : )

        You're doing good work, Ashish!
      • Freso
Ashish: Doing videos is a lot of hard work. Thanks for taking it on!
      • s/hard/tedious/
      • Leo_Verto
        Thanks!
      • I did some more GCI mentoring, mostly BrainzBot stuff with naiveai and annebelleo but I also a bunch of data entry ones this weekend (although nowhere near as much as MajorLurker and CatQuest).
      • In general we've made pretty significant improvements to lower the barriers for BrainzBot development (i.e. not downloading and compiling node when npm is already installed) but I'm hoping to get a bunch of other cleanup and housekeeping done in the future.
      • I've also somewhat improved the repo setup with locked master branches and forced reviews which works pretty well.
      • Ashish
Thank you as well Freso for you patient guiding : )
      • naiveai
        !m Leo_Verto
      • BrainzBot
        You're doing good work, Leo_Verto!
      • Freso
(Only spellew left to go after Leo_Verto. If anyone else wants to give a review this week, speak up now, otherwise we'll continue to agenda items after spellew!)
      • naiveai
I can vouch for the setup easiness of BrainzBot now :D
      • Freso
        Thanks Leo_Verto! :)
      • Leo_Verto
And we'll talk about the meeting plugin that we've probably spent way too much time designing later :P
      • fin.
      • spellew: go!
      • spellew
I've been working on converting Perl templates to React for my GCI tasks. Right now I'm making a few edits to the not_found.tt files and then I'll work on converting the isrc and iswc pages.
      • I just want to thank the community for helping me with everything, I've learned so much since GCI started. :)
      • Done
      • Freso
        Thanks spellew and everyone!
      • Leo_Verto
        !m spellew
      • BrainzBot
        You're doing good work, spellew!
      • Freso
No one else has said they'd like to give review, so...
      • ruaok: GSoC ideas page
      • But since ruaok is not here, I wonder if someone knows what he wanted to say? If not, I'll say a few things.
      • iliekcomputers
Maybe we defer to next week if ruaok isn't here?
      • CatQuest
        ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
      • Freso
iliekcomputers: But the day after next Monday is the deadline.
      • I'll just say a few things.
      • https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Development/Summer... has "Ideas page" links for all the main projects, but none of those pages exist currently.
      • iliekcomputers
        Cool, no prob :)
      • Freso
So people (and esp. project leads), please go and create those pages!
      • Consider looking at the pages from https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Development/Summer... and copying them—there are probably even ideas there that are still valid for 2018.
      • LordSputnik
We just need to copy the BB page for last year
      • Freso
I think that's all I can think of for this topic. If Rob had something else/more in mind, we can take it up next week again. :)
      • Leo_Verto
also the metabrainz logo is broken, I wonder who messed that up when making the page?
      • Freso
        naiveai: musicbrainz-cli
      • CatQuest noticed too
      • naiveai
Ok, so this is a simple little idea I had based on a discussion with CatQuest
      • It's not very fleshed out yet
      • CatQuest
        oi da
      • samj1912 remembers creating the picard page last year
      • naiveai
The idea is that currently, your average editor can't build queries directly against the database
      • samj1912
        is that cheating? :P
      • naiveai
Now, musicbrainz-cli could be a little CLI app that you can run some custom query language on, that's simpler than SQL
      • and create, for example, reports that aren't general enough to be full-blown reports, but are customized to the editor's needs
      • Freso
        samj1912: No, it's taking initiative. ;)
      • naiveai
I am not sure at all whether this is remotely useful, so I was looking for some input on it
      • Freso
        samj1912: GSoC ≠ GCI :)
      • I don't think we should create a "custom query language".
      • yvanzo
        We could call it SPARQL?
      • Freso
Maybe there's some query language we could adopt (isn't LinkedBrainz using something like this?).
      • And LinkedB is down right now. :p
