blank private fields as we do in MB, but keep the content.
      • iliekcomputers
Will probably need to evaluate how discourse does it
      • ruaok
ok, does anyone object to doing #1?
      • bitmap
I suppose MB could put deleted accounts in a queue and a script implementing (1) can read from that
      • ruaok
        iliekcomputers: of course.
      • CatQuest
so basiclaly "right to restriction of processing (you still keep the data, but mark it as “restricted” and don’t touch it without further consent by the user), " ?
      • ruaok
CatQuest: let me answer that in one second.
      • hibiscuskazenek1 has quit
      • I hear no objections to doing #1, so I'll think more on how to do that and make tickets for the right projects.
      • CatQuest: other than LB and google analytics we do not have data that we use for processing.
      • for LB processing is stuff like recommendation engine and that is part of the express purpose of LB.
      • if someone objects to us doing that with their data, they should delete their account. that will be the only option.
      • iliekcomputers
Is creating dumps of the data considered processing?
      • (sorry if dumb question)
      • Freso
Note that Discourse only "blanks" e-mail and username (basically, it copies the new data in MB), but leaves other fields intact (e.g., any messages they may have written etc.).
      • ruaok
for Google Analytics, we're going to dump it.
      • Leo_Verto
hmm, wasn't the point of "restricting" to also prevent admins from seeing the data?
      • ruaok
its not worth the hassle for us, so that makes things easier.
      • as for data dumps, I suppose that can count as processing, but that get tricky.
      • CatQuest
see what wikipedia/data would implement logilaly?
      • ruaok
hence the "delete your account if you don't want your data processed". it simply doesn't make sense in our context.
      • CatQuest
I mean, what logic they'd suggest, thney have itrative data based from people's additions
      • ruaok
CatQuest: we don't have luxury to do that. we nee to have this implemented soonish.
      • I think we've pretty much nailed down the tricky points.
      • CatQuest
do we define edits that users make as *theri* datq thoguh
      • ruaok
I have more things to think about and more questions to ask of other devs.
      • for now, lets call this done. I'm happy.
      • thanks.
      • back to Freso
      • reosarevok
They license that out when entering them, so no, CatQuest
      • AFAICT anyway
      • CatQuest
it's more "data they add" infact we might be able to disssalow people adding data about themselves (like wikipeida does)
      • reosarevok
(no idea about edit *notes* but eh)
      • Freso
Well, no more items on the agenda, so the meeting's over.
      • Thanks for your time everyone!
      • </BANG>
      • iliekcomputers
        Thanks Freso
      • CatQuest
        \o/
      • ruaok
        woo. :)
      • CatQuest
        well done freso
      • chhavi_
        :)
      • Leo_Verto
ruaok: we should probably ask wikipedia how they deal with the "right to be forgotten" part and whether that includes factual data on users
      • loujine
reosarevok: are you interested in attending the meeting tomorrow?
      • reosarevok
loujine: I might, yvanzo gave me a link already. If I remember. My French is shit, but
      • Leo_Verto: what factual data do we keep?
      • CatQuest: we can't really forbid people editing their own stuff if the BBC is going to keep sending them to us
      • Leo_Verto
just remember the cases of artists asking for data about them to be deleted
      • CatQuest
        alas, true
      • reosarevok
Leo_Verto: that's not related to users though then. That's anyone's right to be forgotten issue, whether they're users or not, and not directly connected to this one I think?
      • loujine
as far as I remember the project coordinator was speaking english correctly
      • reosarevok
I don't want to make a bunch of French people speak English just for my sake though :)
      • Leo_Verto
reosarevok: yeah, I'm not really sure about this one but I suppose the wikimedia people will have thought it through
      • reosarevok
But I might be around anyway, and I can speak English to them at least
      • Leo_Verto: probably :)
      • "Any user that contributes to MusicBrainz should be aware that their contributions will be made available to the public under the licenses described below. Furthermore, MusicBrainz users give the MetaBrainz Foundation the right to license this data for commercial use" (https://musicbrainz.org/doc/About/Data_License)
      • loujine
I'm sending an email to warn them :)
      • CatQuest
that's what I said, wikimedia is gonna work with this too
      • TOPIC: MetaBrainz Community and Development channel | MusicBrainz non-development: #musicbrainz | GSoC https://goo.gl/7jsjG2 | Meeting agenda: Reviews
      • reosarevok
So, their edits are all licensed etc, and that's no longer a problem from that front I assume (although we need to make sure this is clear to them :p )
      • CatQuest
        yep
      • reosarevok
But the issue can still exist of "That data, take it down" regardless
      • alastairp
7:23 PM <rsh7_> And now I am planning to put the AB code in an acousticbrainz package this week just like LB and CB.
      • CatQuest
that was a good article, the only thing it didn't explain was *what* does "GDPR" actulaly stand for?!
      • alastairp
can you hold off on this until we have all the current PRs merged? It's going to be a big change and make things complex to compare
      • so I'd rather do it when the PRs are in a better state

        alastairp: :)
      • alastairp
ruaok: good to see you have many of the same questions we do about Freesound
      • which means that I'm not crazy telling people that we need to do this
      • Freso
      • CatQuest
thnaks, i only needed ot know what it stood for. the article was suficient :D
      • alastairp
oh what a time to be a GDPR consultant
      • 1 month before it becomes active :)
      • Leo_Verto
it's kinda funny that it's been around since 2016 but only now is everyone scrambling to implement it
      • CatQuest
something about a crystla on facebook or something
      • or what was it
      • made everyone realsie "oh snap all thi data everywhere!"
      • alastairp
CatQuest: the law has been in progress since about 2006
      • and was passed 2 years ago, but with a 2 year "transition period" because they new that it would require a lot of work to become compliant
      • CatQuest
        soo..
      • ruaok
alastairp: another reason to go have lunch soon and compare notes.
      • alastairp
        ruaok: sure
      • CatQuest
everyone is like "luls do it later" ... "oh shit the deadlien is now"
      • alastairp
CatQuest: many of my apps on my phone have been asking me for more explicit permission for things
      • ruaok
Upf should concerned about this. They are not making noise?
      • alastairp
        it's been interesting
      • rsh7_
        Yeah, sure!
      • ruaok
        Lol, ok.
      • Lunch Wednesday?
      • Zas will be here too. Fatten up theirs birds with one stone
      • alastairp
as a public institution, the university has a Data Protection Officer, and many rules about how to make data plans
      • ruaok
        Three birds...
      • alastairp
and many EU grants also require it
      • but most grants say "we will store data in line with our institution's guidelines"
      • ruaok
How many of the rules are contradictory?
      • hibiscuskazeneko has quit
      • alastairp
it's not so much ontradictory, more that there are a lot of rules for things like how to store medial records from human trials
      • and not much about how to store preferences in webapps

I was watching a series, planning to play now. But akhilesh and LordSputnik, last I remember main problem was someone needed to write all the code for a book art archive
      • hibiscuskazeneko has quit
      • LordSputnik
reosarevok: do you know what that code needs to do?
      • Or know who knows
      • reosarevok
Look at the CAA code, pretty much the same IIRC? It's been forever
      • Maybe bitmap can give you a hint, I haven't really touched that code :)
      • UmkaDK has quit
      • akhilesh
LordSputnik: How will we know that how to get archive URL after upload images? I think it is used in MB but I am not able to understand MB codebase.

akhilesh: as far as I know, we upload something somewhere, then send a message to a queue to process the upload. Then thumbnail images get generated and the image lives at the same UUID as the MBID/BBID it was submitted for
      • The issues are: how can we get CAA to understand about book art, and how do we talk to the CAA
      • akhilesh
LordSputnik: ya, can we take input image URL from the user at the beginning?
      • and store this url in the database.
      • Freso
akhilesh: Did you ever upload any cover art in MusicBrainz? If not, try that. You'll want the same, or very similar, workflow for BookBrainz.
      • rdswift
This may be a dumb question, but have you guys ever considered having a single 'Brainz user account rather that separate accounts for each project? Sort of a UserBrainz thing.
      • akhilesh
Freso: I tried now, The process is very easy but how will code it for BB? how do we talk to the CAA?
      • CatQuest
rdswift: afaik that is In The Works ™
      • we want that. at soem points
      • but we have oauth for bb, lb, ab? cb, community and mb
      • we don't for wiki, jira and uh github?
      • what was the last thing
      • anyway github is not really probable
      • but jira and wiki
      • but right now it's not bad imho
      • rdswift
Sounds like a good vision in the long run. Thanks.
      • CatQuest
(only issue is letting each project have its own email. but that is something we cna look at )
