I helped with preparing/recovering from downtime when bowie's biggest fan was terminated
      • ruaok
        rotfl.
      • LordSputnik
iliekcomputers: could you link to the LB account deletion PR please?
      • bitmap
worked on some react stuff, mostly converting the homepage which I just submitted a pr for
      • iliekcomputers
      • ruaok
        bitmap: exciting!
      • bitmap
        agreed!
      • and I worked on some new postgres/pgpool/repmgr containers which are kinda working, but I need to test the failover functionality more
      • LordSputnik
        iliekcomputers: thanks :)
      • ruaok
        also exciting!
      • bitmap
        fin, yvanzo ?
      • yvanzo
        hi!
      • Freso
(People still up: Freso, rsh7, bukwurm, Leo_Verto, kartikeyaSh_ircc, drsaunder. Anyone else, please let me know explicitly ASAP.)
      • rsh7 is here
      • yvanzo
I fixed beta MBS, updated it, and finally pushed it to production after two days.
      • I reviewed some of bitmap’s fine pull requests and addressed some display/WS bugs.
      • I updated PG sys doc, soon to be obsolete, so I started to read about pgpool2 and barman.
      • go rsh7!
      • rsh7
        hi o/
      • ruaok keeps wonder what remote shell version 7 is all about
      • Last week I did some left over work of #257 and #261 AB. I read about replication packets and it’s working which I’m gonna use in my project.
      • Discussed the project work for first month with iliekcomputers. For the first week, I would start with adding more entities to the direct connection PR and today I started working on the ‘artist’ one.
      • Done with the exams last week and came back home yesterday. :)
      • fin!
      • Freso: go!
      • Freso
        🙋
      • I finally caught up with the Monday meeting notes I've been behind. So that's one less thing I'm behind on… until half an hour from now anyway. 🙈
      • LordSputnik
        Freso: me :)
      • Freso
I also finally got around to writing up the board meeting minutes from the last board meeting, just in time for the board meeting tomorrow. Next up on my agenda is getting the still-unpublished minutes posted on the blog.
      • Other than that, I've been around and about on IRC and forums, handling the occassional forum flags and keeping an eye on some suspicious IRC activities. (Thanks to christel for giving me a heads up! And thanks to the people in here and in #musicbrainz for just reverting the vandalism without paying it (too) much attention.)
      • bukwurm is up for reviews
      • Fin, go drsaunder!
      • drsaunder
well i will hold off until after when its my turn, but if anyone wants to read ahead: https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Mentorship_Program
      • Freso
        Alright then.
      • drsaunder
tax season is finally over so you should see more of me around here i guess
      • Freso
        🙌
      • drsaunder
        bukwurm...hit it!
      • ruaok
        yay!
      • bukwurm
        Hi everyone
      • This week I was busy wrapping up my other projects so that they don't collide with the coding period
      • I worked on schema changes for import
      • Will be making a PR today shortly after a discussion with LordSputnik
      • That would conclude first major aspect for this week's job
      • That's it for me. :)
      • Leo__Verto: ?
      • Leo__Verto
        thank you!
      • I played devil's advocate regarding the GDPR stuff and tried to find ways in which MeB could be violating it.
      • Freso
(Only kartikeyaSh and LordSputnik still up. Anyone else, now's the last time to let me know.)
      • Leo__Verto
Then I had to deal with a lovely root SSD failure on one of my servers and learned a valuable lesson about not cheaping out on hardware and talked to zas about monitoring for that kind of stuff.
      • I also got to fly in an 86 year old plane which was pretty neat but also a good reminder of how comfortable modern jetliners are.
      • bukwurm
        Cool!
      • Leo__Verto
        fin.
      • LordSputnik, go!
      • LordSputnik
        Ooo
      • ruaok
expensive but needed lesson, Leo_Verto. :)
      • LordSputnik
Ok so I didn't do much coding this week
      • I worked out the best way to move all our editing logic from the site repo into a more structured set of functions in the data repo
      • I also think I have a good idea of how to do BB account deletion based on what bitmap has said on the ticket
      • I had a weekly meeting with bukwurm yesterday
      • And he's ready to do some good work this week
      • Darkloke joined the channel
      • We're also planning to stop storing birthday and gender in BB, as it's unnecessary personal information that isn't relevant to our operation
      • So no future birthday greeting emails :P
      • Freso
        LordSputnik: … for users.
      • LordSputnik
        Freso: huh?
      • Oh yeah
      • Not for entities
      • Freso
LordSputnik: You're not going to stop storing birthdays and genders for Authors? :p
      • LordSputnik
        Just editor data
      • Freso
        Right. :)
      • LordSputnik
Then besides that we'll also update to the MeB privacy policy very soon
      • Might need to work out a way to use MB emailing to send out an email update to everyone about that
      • That's it from me :)
      • Leo__Verto
… there were birthday emails? :O
      • ruaok
        MeB privacy policy update?
      • what is needed?
      • Freso
LordSputnik: You can probably just "piggy-back" on the blog post ruaok is going to write about this.
      • Sending a bunch of unsolicited e-mails is Not Cool™.
      • Anyway. kartikeyaSh, go!
      • Last one up!
      • LordSputnik
ruaok: BB doesn't have an official privacy policy, I just mean we'll adopt the new MeB one
      • kartikeyaSh
        Hi
      • ruaok
        got it.
      • LordSputnik
Freso: if that's enough to inform people then sure
      • ruaok
and yes, please piggy back into my blog post. we're going to avoid sending emails if we can possibly help it.
      • Freso
LordSputnik: Maybe do like ruaok and write a forum topic about it too, and then repeat it in the blog post.
      • kartikeyaSh
Had my last exam today. I had a little talk with iliekcomputers about MessyBrainz, nothing much to tell about the week. Finally, I can get started with the MessyBrainz work from tomorrow.
      • fin!
      • ruaok
kartikeyaSh: I hope to have more feedback for you tomorrow.
      • Freso
Thanks kartikeyaSh, and reosarevok, and everyone who gave updates!
      • drsaunder: Mentorship Program!
      • drsaunder
okay well in case you missed above details are here: https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Mentorship_Program
      • kartikeyaSh
ruaok: I'm waiting for the feedback! Let's make MessyBrainz less Messy !
      • drsaunder
basically i had been working this in my head for a while and i think its something we need and would benefit mb a great deal
      • Freso
(LessMessyBrainz is not as catchy though.)
      • drsaunder
and i'm looking for 2 things from the people in this room
      • 1) feedback/opinions how can we do a program like this in the most efficient and effective manner
      • Freso
I meant to have a look at it today, but unfortunately kept being distracted by other things. :( I'll read it over tonight or tomorrow to see what I'm being signed up for more in-depth.
      • drsaunder
        2) buy in...i'm hoping to get as many of you on board as possible, ideally most of the people in the room here now would be my original group of pilot mentors
      • Freso
I think our editor-mentors from GCI might be an excellent starting pool of people, if they're up for it.
      • drsaunder
well yes this is new for everyone, so give a week for everyone to read and come up with comments and i guess discuss again next week?
      • ruaok
as for my two cents on this -- I'm going to hang back a bit and listen to community feedback before I chime in. Just FYI.
      • sounds like a plan, drsaunder
      • Freso
Ping: reosarevok, CatQuest, Major_Lurker, Leo__Verto, … who was else on that team? Some of these are obviously busy with other things, but might be a good starting point for the "initial batch".
      • Leo__Verto
I wonder whether it would make sense to allow some sort of seperation by genre? I have no idea about classical editing style and I can't read Japanese but there are some other editors who have specialized working on those
      • drsaunder
so guys...please..you have a week...hopefully i can get all of you to spend 5 mins comtemplating a mentorship program would be great
      • reosarevok
I really like the idea. I'm already trying to do this a bit, so having a more organized way would be great
      • CatQuest
we kidna used to have a informal thing lie kthis
      • drsaunder
        i'd like to formalize it
      • Freso
Alright. So let's keep the item in the /topic for next week and revisit there. :) drsaunder, any chance you may want to post about it on the forums too?
      • CatQuest
you'd sort of mentor a person and it usually ended with electing hme as autoeditor
      • like a sort of "always gci" but witouth the competition and tasks?
      • drsaunder
we all would love to help new editors...but too few of them care, so it would be a boon if we know which ones care and want to improve
      • Freso
(I mean, I guess it'll sort of be posted in the forums once I make the meeting notes for tonight. :))
      • Leo__Verto
on the technical side of things, maybe a forum thread could be used to handle the assignments for now and mentors would just subscribe to mentees?
      • CatQuest
i'd lie kthe be able to "subscribe to people" thingy
      • if i see new editors doing stuff
      • i wanna help out and stuff :D
      • Leo__Verto
I feel like trying to find technical solutions to poorly defined people problems doesn't always result in systems that people want to use
      • drsaunder
but one specific mentor per person would be idea....you dont want multiple mentors as thats just confusing, and we want to assist new editors, not beat them down
      • CatQuest
        this is true
      • Leo__Verto
imho it's better to go low-tech and build a system from our experiences, if this is something people even want to use
      • ruaok
        Leo_Verto: this isn't really a technical solution.
      • this is a coordination of a social solution.
      • CatQuest
I don't know about one on one I think the "village to raise an editor" is better honestly
      • sometimes ye designed mentor is busy or has other things
      • it cna quickly becoem a fulltime job
      • Leo__Verto
ruaok, definitely, I'm mostly referring to the "Implementation" part of the wiki page. I don't think we need to do any coding to get the pilot up
      • drsaunder
and the whole social situation speaks to issue #2....where we really need to build more of a base of 1%ers
      • CatQuest
having severla folunteers helping out and beign friendly about it isn't a probplem
      • Freso
Alright. Let's continue discussion about this post-meeting, because there's no way we're going to get a resolution of anything in the next 10 minutes.
      • CatQuest
infact it would help to illustrate the collaboratory aspect of mb
      • Freso
So let's continue talking and thinking and revisit next week. Does this sound okay?
      • ruaok
        k
      • drsaunder
just day one, get you guys thinking on this and hopefully backing me up :-)
      • Freso
        drsaunder: I think it's a great initiative!
      • drsaunder
i had dmpanda and teleguise to mentor me
      • ruaok
drsaunder: I the sentiment of "knowing who wants to be a better editor"
      • drsaunder
        and i mentored murdos
      • ruaok
maybe that is what we ought to focus on as well. ways find these people... and then to coax them into mentorship.
      • anyways, gotta run.
      • Freso
I don't hear anyone speak against my proposition, so I'll call the meeting off now, but please stick around and continue the talk/discussion. :)
      • ruaok promises to think.
      • Thanks for your time everyone!
      • </BANG>
      • drsaunder
in other words we need to find more of these OCD people and focus their addiction to musicbrainz
      • Leo__Verto
I'm trying to find that graph loujine made about % of editors who make X edits
      • CatQuest
[19:54] <drsaunder> i had dmpanda and teleguise to mentor me
      • heh I had dupuy and uh nikki and ... kinda hma >_<
      • Leo__Verto
