        hey
      • CatQuest
        i think he's not no
      • bitmap
I was working on a new parser for our translation source strings which can handle embedded html
      • reosarevok
I can go after bitmap, concert just ended
      • bitmap
(quite a few of our strings in mbs contain html, and react doesn't make that possible to work with without wrapping the text in a <span/> or other element)
      • yvanzo
(sidenote: that was one of our security issue for i18n.mb.o)
      • bitmap
also made some fixes to and merged a couple prs: converting the area search results page to react, adding selenium tests for the release editor
      • otherwise, did some code review. fin, reosarevok!
      • reosarevok
        Hi!
      • CatQuest
        hi!
      • reosarevok
So, this has been a busy uni week, so mostly just support and standard editing
      • There was a discussion on the forums about cover art that could use some more opinions (Freso, can you link it? I'm on mobile)
      • CatQuest
        oh?
      • reosarevok
And I helped samj1912 a bit with solr stuff
      • Fin, zas?
      • zas
        Hey$
      • CatQuest
        hey€
      • zas
i set up 3 VMs on Hetzner Cloud, and configured them as a SOLR cloud so we can start to experiment
      • Freso
I'm guessing https://community.metabrainz.org/t/artwork-scan... is the discussion reosarevok referred to.
      • reosarevok
        Yes!
      • zas
apart that, i set up a bunch of alerts related to CPU temperature, and tuned them
      • LordSputnik is about
      • Also worked on Postgresql stuff a bit, mainly digging documentation
      • plus usual upgrades etc...
      • fin. LordSputnik ?
      • LordSputnik
        Oh hey
      • This week I helped bukwurm out with GSoC
      • He'll give more info about that
      • Also worked on the BB editor removal endpoint to allow editor deletion on MB to propagate to BB
      • That's done now, and just needs testing /github.com/bookbrainz/bookbrainz-site/pull/196
      • I think that's about it
      • Freso
(People still up: rsh7, bukwurm, Leo_Verto, kartikeyaSh, drsaunder, ruaok - anyone else, please let me know explicitly ASAP.)
      • LordSputnik
        fin. bukwurm!
      • bukwurm
        Hi everyone!
      • CatQuest
        hi!
      • bukwurm
This week I worked on schema related work for imports
      • It has been reviewed and I am working on the changes
      • I worked on functional query based methods to access the methods
      • Had a discussion in my weekly meeting with LordSputnik regarding bb-data interface for this setup
      • I am a bit behind my schedule for this week, trying to catch up. :)
      • That's it for me.
      • rsh7: ?
      • ruaok appears
      • Freso
        rsh7: Ping?
      • ruaok: Go while we wait for rsh7 to appear.
      • ruaok
        k
      • rsh7
i will go after ruaok. :)
      • ruaok
last week was prepping for the board meeting and another convo with y-vonne, and finally the board meeting.
      • then I started doing research for finding alternative to spanish banks...
      • because, the bank wants to re-open our account, but their computer systems won't allow it.
      • sigh.
      • Leo__Verto
        yay
      • Freso …
      • ruaok
who knows if that will ever get taken care of. so I asked around a bit and got very posittive referrals for transferwise. I dove in and we now have a EUR account and will soon have an INR account.
      • pretty neat, still more expensive than a regular bank account, but for now, it is ok.
      • next month's invoices will be paid through that. we'll see how that goes.
      • I also caught up the accounting that was piled up on having a valid EUR account, so I did all that.
      • and then some GDPR stuff and PRs for iliekcomputers and samj1912. sadly, another week where I failed to review kartikeyaSh's PR.
      • CatQuest
!m ruaok (beasue all that shit *is* a pita)
      • BrainzBot
You're doing good work, ruaok (beasue all that shit *is* a pita)!
      • ruaok
thanks to iliekcomputers for picking up the slack.
      • fin, rsh, go!
      • rsh7
        hi!
      • hi! This week I worked on direct connection scripts for artist and release entity and opened the PRs in BU.
      • I also added the test script for helper function.
      • And a separate MB direct connection setup PR in AB.
      • Updated the AB documentation for setting up MusicBrainz server in AB.
      • and worked on removing caching from release, artist and recording entity in BU.
      • That's all for this week!
      • fin. kartikeyaSh ?
      • kartikeyaSh
        hi
      • Freso
(Only Leo__Verto and drsaunder left on my list. Last call for others who want to give reviews.)
      • kartikeyaSh
I did some work on creating recording clusters waiting for some discussion with ruaok .
      • ruaok
kartikeyaSh: mail me please. this week is going to be rough.
      • kartikeyaSh
I worked on the reviews by iliekcomputers in BrainzUtils PR for musicbrainz db and I plan to complete the requested changes after the meeting.
      • fin!
      • Leo__Verto:
      • ?
      • Leo__Verto
        Thank you!
      • kartikeyaSh
        ruaok: okay
      • Leo__Verto
I started working on the website and management part of SpamBrainz, helped samj1912 testing and tweaking newsearch (which works extremely well already).
      • I've also been looking into data science stuff to run on the spam data, I'll probably end up making a couple jupyter notebooks (and hopefully a bunch of cool graphs).
      • Oh and I also found a great location for our 2019 summit :D https://www.elbphilharmonie.de/de/vermietung-el...
      • fin.
      • drsaunder, go!
      • drsaunder
        ahoy hoy
      • the time has finally come to say
      • ...its time to remove the probation from the KEXP editors
      • CatQuest
        :O
      • Freso
      • drsaunder: πŸ™Œ
      • πŸŽ‰
      • drsaunder
they've stop forcing all their volunteers to edit
      • Freso
        πŸŽ†
      • ruaok
        yay
      • drsaunder
those were the really crappy ones because when you're forced to do something you don't care
      • Freso
        Mhm.
      • CatQuest
        yea
      • drsaunder
so we are left with 3-4 kexp editors, but they were the best, they actually care about the database and take suggestions are involved etc
      • CatQuest
        yay!
      • Freso
        !m drsaunder
      • BrainzBot
        You're doing good work, drsaunder!
      • drsaunder
so i'm officially lifting my probation i had on them, they don't require watching anymore
      • Freso
Thanks for all your work and time dealing with them.
      • CatQuest
        πŸ™Œ
      • hurrah!
      • drsaunder
no worries...someone had to do it
      • and because i'm a masochist, i've started another SXSW festival...yikes!
      • and i hope most/all of you had a chance to read the mentorship doc
      • fin
      • CatQuest
        i'e read it!
      • Freso
drsaunder was last on my list of people.
      • ruaok nods
      • chhavi_
        I did too :)
      • Freso
Thank you drsaunder and everyone else for your reviews!
      • Let's see how many of the agenda items we can make today. :)
      • drsaunder: Mentorship Program
      • drsaunder
        so me again...ll
      • lol
      • CatQuest
well i like the idea. evne if it seems i missunderstood a bit..
      • chhavi_
It is well written! :) I had just one feedback on it.
      • I think we can use how GSoC specifies expectations from mentors and mentees. Listing some practical expectations might help us onboard more mentors. Something like this
      • CatQuest
having a guide to help you will always be good
      • ruaok
        +1
      • drsaunder
        agreed on the guide
      • always good to have doc to back up... i will look into "borrowing" what is relevant from GSoC
      • thanks chavi for that one
      • chhavi_
:) Will be happy to help with final draft and proof reading as well. let me know!
      • CatQuest
        :D
      • ruaok
perhas you could take this feedback and revise the proposal a little?
      • drsaunder
now as a general question, do you see yourself volunteering to be a mentor, even if its just for one editor?
      • ruaok: of course i will
      • Freso would be happy to volunteer
      • CatQuest
if i can work *together* with other mentors, absolutely
      • ruaok shouldn't
      • nope :D
      • LordSputnik
        I also shouldn't :P
      • CatQuest
        lol y?
      • LordSputnik
Too many things, not enough time πŸ˜›
      • CatQuest
        aha
      • drsaunder
catquest: i don't know if we want too much working together
      • CatQuest
yea that's my problem too. i'v go so many things. but I'd definitly pitch in
      • ruaok
drsaunder: not sure if that is a good question. it puts people on the spot and you might not find your target audience here as muhc
      • drsaunder
think about it from the mentee side...its one thing to have a dedicate person you know critiquing your edits...its entire different to have a group of people doing so
      • CatQuest
to make sure that the "mentoring process" is cosnistent
      • drsaunder
we don't want to scare off or overwhelm them either
      • ruaok
drsaunder: what would you like to see as the next step for this program?
      • Freso
drsaunder: Maybe make a role call on the blog and possibly also poke potentially interested mentors personally?
