Hey everyone. This might be an odd question, but what is the process of starting a new *Brainz project? I recently decided to start a project of my own that relies on video game data, and every option available out there is locked behind a proprietary API and not free to use. I feel like a GameBrainz project would be a good cause to dedicate all
the free time I have at the moment

hi Kaze404, most of the dev are asleep at this time. I'm sure someone will reply in a few hours
prabal: Thanks! If that's the case I guess I can start my own platform for this. Since the data will be open, migrating it to a future Brainz project if it does come to fruition should be fairly straightforward :)
yvanzo, bitmap: we should try and reach a decision on https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-10613 - if you think it should just be kept on prod, then I'd just close it as won't fix, and if not we should change it )
BrainzBot
MBS-10613: Version info footer missing on multiple pages
zas: I managed to do an import and this time the catch up took a lot longer. but I am doing stuff in the background -- this behaviour is pretty much to be expected. there seems to be no magic under the hood.
MBS-10663: Copyright and phonographic copyright ARs shouldn't have "in" displayed
Ruby_Rod
it looks really really worng and it was an error that was *introduced*
(also why?)
just go back to having the date only
that's also a lot easier to translate

reosarevok: see my reply on that ticket
Ruby_Rod is now known as CatQuest
CatQuest is annoyed and goes out even if it's going ot rain all day
ruaok
CatQuest: quick question.
for listen counts being updated in LB... what do you consider reasonable?
10m is not doable.
CatQuest
huh. I'd actually consider 10 reasonable 😹
but i guess. i mena 20, 30?
ruaok
I'm going to try an hour. not sure that is doable.
CatQuest
it'd start gettingreally bad if it was over an hour
ruaok
I also have to wonder how important those are. because I just found out the ones we have now are totally inaccurate.
CatQuest
honestly if it gets over an hour. it'd be better to just have it updated daily. "it's updated daily! see if your rank has increased on our leaderboard!!" or osmething
ruaok
it may need to be daily.
I think having counts is important, but especially for someone like you who has a lot of listens, having an accurate count at all times is kinda pointless.
CatQuest
in that case have a leader board in a table, make it look like some game-ranking stickz.
yea that's why I have that idea :D
ruaok
oh, I can do that real quick. I'll just hard code you to the top of the table and we're done. :)
CatQuest
:PPP
hmm a table could also have amounths albums, artists, and recordings. certainly people will outrank me in amount artists
but yea.. btw what actually happens today? does it only update when I import from last?
so what I'd care about Listen count is "when do I break 1.5M"

Kaze404: I wouldn’t say that the answer I gave in that reply would apply equally to your idea. The idea proposed that I responded to was completely and wholly unrelated to anything else MetaBrainz is doing. Your idea would be right up our alley and has been something we’ve talked about before… but we don’t have the man-power to support it at all ourselves at this moment. However, if you manage to get it rolling and
can maintain it yourself, we might *possibly* be willing to help with infrastructure and adopt it under our brand. We will make no promises though. The last completely new community database project we made/adopted, BookBrainz, is only now starting to be actually usable after… more than 5 years(?) of work on it. The discussion of https://community.metabrainz.org/t/moviebrainz/... might be more applicable to this
situation here and explain the status quo better than the other forum topic you were linked.

Freso: Thanks for the link, that was very insightful. If that's the case I'll write a simple document stating my goals for the project and what problems it solves. Then, work on a basic schema that reaches those goals and publish it somewhere. Should I also start a thread there to discuss this project?
