I think that the "this is a bad recommendation" button should be slightly separate to the like/don'tlike ones
because my feeling is that this feedback is slightly different
shivam-kapila
Exactly
alastairp
it's talking more about context rather than personal tastes
shivam-kapila
The icon should clearly show what I marked
alastairp
once you've clicked it?
shivam-kapila
Yeah
Plus in the options
Like you see the icon and it aligns the thought
alastairp
and are you using :slightly_smiling_face:/:disappointed: or 👍/👎
ugh
🙂
shivam-kapila
Emojis are still under consideration for me
alastairp
ok, cool
shivam-kapila
So happy to recieve opinions
alastairp
I wonder if we could do a small survey
just a thought, maybe 🙂 could be considered "this song makes me happy"
but I'm not sure if people will think of it like that
shivam-kapila
😠☹️🙂😄🤗 maybe these
alastairp
e.g. you could have a song that makes you sad, but you still like it
shivam-kapila
Right
alastairp
I wonder if 🤔 is better for "bad recommendation",
but I wouldn't be 100% fixed on using faces, they can be difficult to understand what the meaning is
shivam-kapila
This emoji looks like "I am wondering"
Yeah kinda I am on same line. Theres a conflict in interpretation of their meanings. I am looking how do others do it. Like I shared yt ss a few days ago
alastairp: Maybe what you are thinking is kinda a slider to give score type thing
alastairp
right, I remember that one. In that case we would have to decide what meaning each of those items mean
shivam-kapila
Yep
alastairp
the way the question is asked, it seems like it's asking me if I like being recommended this item, which personally I find is a bit different to the question of if I actually like it or not
or is that just me?
no, I don't want a slider
shivam-kapila
Got it
alastairp
the long oval is just something to group the things together
I don't have an example of what happens when you hover over the like button in facebook
I kind of assumed that when you put your mouse over the button it expands out to show more items
shivam-kapila
Yeah I got that now
CatQuest
!m rdswift for work on readthedocs for picard
BrainzBot
You're doing good work, rdswift for work on readthedocs for picard !
shivam-kapila
I am not a fb user. So I cant show how it works. Sorry
CatQuest
gotta be hoest that the emjoi of crying looks more unhpapy to me than the angry one (re pristine screenshots)
[11:52] <alastairp> but I wouldn't be 100% fixed on using faces, they can be difficult to understand what the meaning is
this for me (idk if it's personal or asbergers or) faces don't convey the same to everyone atleast (this is also cultural diff)
shivam-kapila
Right
alastairp
CatQuest: yeah, that's a really good point too. I wonder how much the use of emojis in things like facebook are adjusting people's meanings of these kinds of symbols
CatQuest
for rating I use 5 stars like, to me they are neutral (but I guess to somepeople anything under 4 stars ="it sucks!") (why that is is beyond me)
alastairp
CatQuest: one big problem with stars is that many people find it difficult to be consistent on a scale
CatQuest
to me one star is = it suckd! 2 is "meh" 3 is "neutral(i like it) 4 is "this is gret!" and 5 is "this is awesome, i love it!"
alastairp
that's one of the reasons that most online services moved away from stars to just plain up/down
colours have different meanings in different cultures too!
shivam-kapila
alastairp: fb ^^
CatQuest
sorry sun in my eyes (so not just typos because i'm butterfinger 😅)
alastairp
maybe we should just do text instead :)
CatQuest
oh god that's true :D (i was thinkgi trafifc light like but)
alastairp
shivam-kapila: I'm not so much interested in what the emojis are, but in how the workflow is to add feedback
shivam-kapila
Me too
alastairp
there's an interesting idea. we translate text in websites, why don't we translate colours and emojis too!
CatQuest
so to me those are "I like it" I love it" "this is funny" "idk happy anime smiling face" "wow that was surprising" "that made me sad" "grumblegrumble"
shivam-kapila
Translate emojis?
CatQuest
heh
I like how RYM does it. they have a 5 star rting (where you can also rate a half star) but they also *let you optionally pick text descriptions* for each (or only some) of your ratings
