      • MetaBrainz is a non-profit right? :)
      • ruaok
        yes.
      • they sponsored our summit last year, but yet have to pay us.

hi ruaok, we spoke last week about a bunch of feedback stuff on troi and dataset hoster. any thoughts on how to make that feedback physical?
      • I don't think we had any major show-stoppers, it might be easier if I do some PRs for code cleanups
      • and as you said, good time to start adding tests
      • ruaok
the troi stuff is mostly in progress already.
      • alastairp
should we set jenkins up for it too while we're here?
      • (should I) :)
      • ruaok
did we have concrete issues for the dataset hoster?
      • and yes, lets.
      • alastairp
no, nothing major - just a few style checks I think
      • ruaok
I dont recall the details -- maybe open a ticket?
      • alastairp
        perfect
      • I'm at ISMIR this week, with a kind of weird time schedule to fit everything in. I'll be in and out for the next few days
      • some super interesting stuff related to us already, including a full analysis of AB high-level features!
      • ruaok
I've got troi running web, but I need more time to tie up lose ends tomorrow.
      • alastairp
will get some more information about this and report back
      • ruaok
oh, I'm really curious about the high level AB stuff. I'm mostly distrustful, so it would be good to get an expert opinon
      • alastairp
yeah, the results aren't good (for our data)
      • some HL values seem to have very strong correlation with things like "version of ffmpeg", or "bitrate of mp3 file", which is a bit worrying
      • v6lur has quit
      • ruaok
        my fears exactly.
      • but, knowing is half the battle, so we can correct the models.
      • alastairp
again, talking about being open with our stuff, this would be great information to add to our stats page
      • I know the supervisor of the student who did this work, I'll send them a note to see if we can integrate that work into AB
      • ruaok
and have them send PRs to fix things, maybe?
      • alastairp
I'd like to get them to contribute code to automatically generate graphs, for sure
      • fixing things: I suspect that's going to come down to building new models. but that's great, we have the new infrastructure for that
      • live stream of the keynote talk happening today at the ISMIR conference
      • Dr. Safiya Noble - Taking on Big Tech: New Paradigms for New Possibilities
      • ruaok: when we last talked about CB in a meeting we decided to meet today and decide if our work towards it has been useful and if we should continue
      • however in light of what we talked about during the summit, I think we've already make our minds up
      • do you think that there's anything else that we should discuss about this topic today?
      • ruaok
No, agreed. Let's keep on with CB as discussed last week.

      • Last week I worked on MBS-10221 and MBS-11156.
      • Converted our Selenium tests from their obsolete .html format into JSON5, to make writing those easier.
      • Fixed up https://github.com/metabrainz/musicbrainz-serve... and documented our Flow setup in HACKING.md.
      • Submitted https://github.com/metabrainz/musicbrainz-serve... to resolve longstanding bugs in our ISE pages.
      • Worked on migrating to Webpack v5 to help with watch mode performance issues (at least on macOS).
      • Also started working on MBS-11092. Should have a patch today or tomorrow.
      • Other than that, did code review and resolved some load issues on yehudi related to sitemaps over the weekend.

      • Hi everyone!
      • Last week was pretty productive; I investigated and fixed a couple of bugs with the relationship editor (BB-545, BB-546) and a few more related to edition group creation/selection in the edition editor (https://github.com/bookbrainz/bookbrainz-site/p...).
      • These new features and bug fixes were deployed last week, with a follow-up deployment today.
      • Nothing but a quick mention of fixing ORG-45.
      • I’ve generated a report for works without an author to publish to the community, who is steadily fixing all of them. It’s really time to start having proper reports on the website.
      • And finally a bit of PR reviewing, some database cleanup and some forum discussions.

      • usual supervision, upgrades, etc
      • also working on releasing Picard this week, mainly code reviews
      • plus upgraded jira server (to get more memory)
      • not sure it was strictly needed though after yvanzo found out the issue wasn't really memory so we may downgrade to reduce costs

        fin. yvanzo ?
      • yvanzo
        Hi!
      • BrainzGit
[musicbrainz-server] reosarevok merged pull request #1700 (master…MBS-11117-long_discids_report): MBS-11117: Create report for too long discIDs https://github.com/metabrainz/musicbrainz-serve...
      • BrainzBot
MBS-11117: Report for mediums with very long durations from discID https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-11117
      • yvanzo
Last week, I indeed upgraded MetaBrainz Tickets to the latest Jira LTS 8.13.
      • I also enabled SSO login with either MusicBrainz account or GitHub account.
      • A few notes about that:
      • reosarevok
I guess it's not possible to transfer one's account to the MB one, or?
      • yvanzo
        1. There is a small display bug that makes these options barely visible on the starting page for now, I reported it upstream already.
      • reosarevok: to "transfer"?
      • CatQuest
        SSO login with either MusicBrainz
      • :O
      • yvanzo
        2. It compares account’s emails (which need to be public on GitHub).
      • CatQuest
so what obut us that hae both already
      • yvanzo
        3. It intentionally creates a new account if email doesn’t match any.
      • reosarevok
Oh, so if your existing jira account shares the MB email you can log in with MB?
      • yvanzo
You can still use password, no problem.
      • CatQuest
        hm
      • yvanzo
Motivations were to make it easier for newcomers (from either MB or GH) to report issues.
      • CatQuest
        👏 good
      • Freso
        👍

        You're doing good work, yvanzo!
      • yvanzo
(Nothing really changes for existing users.)
      • Before that I reviewed MBS PRs (beta upcoming today) and SEARCH PRs.
      • I also added development setup for both MB Solr and SIR in MB Docker.
      • But that was after releasing a new version of MB Server (see blog), which was after a applying patches for bugs reported in beta, thanks to beta users btw!
      • The week before, I mostly reviewed MBS PRs and updated https://beta.musicbrainz.org.
      • Also investigated a localization bug reported by mfmeulenbelt, fixed by bitmap.
      • Finito, go CatQuest!
      • CatQuest
        Meow! `😺`
      • its been pretty hecktic this week
      • did an actual instrument ticket! \o/

        I worked on MBS-11146 quite a bit
      • BrainzBot
MBS-11146: Add "Reviews" tab for CritiqueBrainz https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-11146
      • reosarevok
Which seems to be readyish, but let's see what the reviewers think - it's also waiting for a CB ticket to be implemented and released, ideally
      • Also MBS-11163
      • BrainzBot
MBS-11163: Show type descriptions when editing entities https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-11163
      • reosarevok
Which might help people pick the right types for stuff more often? Maybe :)
      • And finally merged MBS-8725 again, hopefully without awful data eating bugs this time ....
      • BrainzBot
MBS-8725: Allow mediums to have an unknown tracklist https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-8725
      • reosarevok
Finally, I started running a bot to do MBBE (MusicBrainz Batch Editing) tasks, like setting stuff to HTTPS or setting closed website links as ended etc
      • (and I opened a bunch of small PRs, did some code review, the usual)
      • I've also been cleaning up Schumann, feel free to help ;p
      • 30 pages down to 15 now, running out of easy bits :p
      • Freso: what about your week? :)
      • Freso
        o/
      • yvanzo
        reosarevok: yes (previous question)
      • reosarevok
        Oh, neat! (sorry, Freso)
      • Freso
So still not much to show for my time. I looked into some reports and such, but haven’t taken any actions yet, even if there are some that I need to do something about somewhat urgently. I did run and stream the summit last weekend, which I felt went really well. I haven’t looked over the 11 hours of footage to check whether everything went perfectly, but AFAICT from the streaming side, there were no hiccups. 🙌

      • last week alastairp and I discussed and worked on troi and the dataset hoster stuff.
      • I've implemented some of the things we talked about already and have the basics of troi in web working.
      • and most interestingly enough, the first real recommendation feature is coming into focus now: I'm stealing pristine___'s Daily Delight (which is a take on Spotify Daily Mixes) and calling them Daily Jams.
      • the daily jams are already fun to listen to and there two more improvements to make before I left everyone loose on playing with them. very promising.

        You're doing good work, ruaok!
      • ruaok
it also dovetails very nicely into the current discussions around recommendation feedback -- we will need that in order to improve these mixes.
      • still, some filtering (e.g. Never play these artists) can be done in troi so that we have a workaround in the meantime.
      • besides that I also did meb busywork and have more of that coming this week.
      • all in all a pretty decent week and I'm looking for surfacing the first real bits of recommendation work.
