Mr_Monkey
Last week my main project, which I'm finishing this evening, was adding all areas to the BookBrainz search
CatQuest
:o
Mr_Monkey
I also fixed a couple of shameful bugs with edit notes and deleted entities
With the help of Freso, we set up the #bookbrainz IRC channel properly !

I spent a good bit of time working on BrainzPlayer, reviewing and planning for work on ListenBrainz (feedback component, playlists, play queue, etc.)
Also spent a bit of time digging into FunkWhale that ruaok unearthed as a personnal music library pod, and how easy interraction with LB would be
ruaok
:)
Mr_Monkey
Got contact by both LordSputnik and Leftmost, both working on separate BB projects, it's nice to see :)
Some PR reviews, some forum discussions, and some security fixes to round up the week.
using the discourse API to fetch the avatars would probably add too much latency even if we cached them, but I made some notes on how we might rsync the images to staticbrainz or somewhere. similar to the instrument stuff I did

anyway, I think that's about it. reosarevok go?
reosarevok
Hi!
Last week I worked with bitmap to be able to display instrument images
And on refactoring our report code to reduce repetition as much as I could manage (there's still a fair amount of repetition due to the fact that we have almost 100[!!!] of them but at least I managed to extract some stuff to reusable components)
Not much to report outside of the usually, other than spending some time on getting IRC stuff set up for BookBrainz. OTHER-371 should be simply a restart of the bot, but it seems like we need LordSputnik and/or Leo_Verto to do this, as the process is apparently not documented in syswiki, and I don’t remember how/where.
(People still up: ruaok, yvanzo, shivam-kapila, jmp_music, _lucifer – anyone else who want to give review, please let me know ASAP! :))
alastairp
a lot of discussions last week - I had some good discussions with pristine___ about both artist recommendations, and the feedback component on LB. A few things that we have to clarify still, but I think this will turn into some interesting results
some more of poking troi and acousticbrainz endpoints, and I did some work at MTG to get some of our work there into a state that we can use it in troi
I reviewd yvanzo's work on improving the python docker images, and started some work to upgrade listenbrainz and acousticbrainz to the latest versions
and took a look at listenbrainz app startup with docker + consul to improve how this works
I updated brainzutils to install the musicbrainz sample database during testing so that we can test our database access methods against a real database, to fix some issues that we were seeing in CB
finally, I got sphinx working for brainzutils documentation, with the final aim of publishing documentation about how all our various parts work
ruaok: next
ruaok
wow, so much progress, alastairp
alastairp
when you do lots of small things it looks like you did a lot :)
but thanks
ruaok
last week was the normal meb overhead, but also a lot of troi hacking and reviewing PRs. I finally got some reasonable artist credit year lookup data set working, so troi has support for filtering tracks by years now.
as Mr_Monkey suggested, I found funkwhale and installed a private copy to learn more about it.
it seems a perfect fit for us in a lot of ways. it would make a nice brainzplayer backend and troi could live as a plugin inside funkwhale. apparently their community has asked for recommendations a number of times.
so, very promising to have another open source project to start using our stuff.f I'll dig in more in the next few weeks.
I also did some prepping for the upcoming LB hack weekend (next weekend).
I'll be pinging people more about this over the week.
and finally, google renewed its $30k support for us this year. but it may be the last or at least we should expect it to be reduced next year.
google helped us a lot over the years, I'm very thankful.
fin. yvanzo!

yvanzo
Hi!
As alastairp reported earlier, I added support for tagging Python base images with build date.
(It should allow to support downgrading if needed when updating consul version breaks stuff.)
Last week, there has been no beta release of MusicBrainz Server, so don’t expect MBS update this week either.
Instead, MMD Schema and MB Solr have been updated to support recording’s first release date in MBS CI.
I mainly worked on other related search changes that can be added via the same MB Solr and SIR update.
Plus usual PR reviews, fin.
I forgot I enjoyed using Picard 2.5.x, thanks to outsidecontext and all!
Go shivam-kapila!
reosarevok
yvanzo: let's aim for releasing beta on Wed then? :)
