(I know that's an old PR, but in general)
      • bitmap
yeah, this will make the EAA changes easier
      • since I have to refactor a lot of stuff and can be more sure about the changes that way
      • I also finally finished the PR for MBS-10187, also mentioned last week, and submitted that, and worked on couple other minor tickets: MBS-10964, MBS-11328
      • BrainzBot
MBS-10187: "Merge artists" edit is stuck https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-10187
      • MBS-10964: The credited-as name in an artist credit cannot be empty https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-10964
      • MBS-11328: Regression: Approving an edit redirects to home page https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-11328
      • reosarevok
Minor but very annoying, so thanks
      • bitmap
otherwise mostly just did code review and participated in some consul-template/registrator upgrade discussions
      • fin. reosarevok go!
      • reosarevok
        Hi!
      • Last week I worked on a bunch of refactor-y stuff
      • But also on MBS-9419
      • BrainzBot
MBS-9419: Don't show versions, medleys, etc for a work on the release page https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-9419
      • CatQuest
        !m bitmap
      • BrainzBot
        You're doing good work, bitmap!
      • reosarevok
MBS-11305 which seems like a useful report given how much messy stuff I see with join phrases
      • BrainzBot
MBS-11305: Report for erroneous looking trailing join phrases https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-11305
      • reosarevok
And today I sent a small change fixing MBS-11333 which actually seems to also fix the old annoying MBS-4782
      • BrainzBot
MBS-11333: Cover art edits of merged releases display incomplete filename https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-11333
      • MBS-4782: Merging releases breaks cover art in edits https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-4782
      • reosarevok
        So that was neat
      • Today I had a call with Wikidata people about improving error detection in MB<-->Wikidata stuff, including checking whether, say, our dates clash for an artist, or whether something just seems to be wrongly linked. They might have reports about that coming at some point that they'll share with us
      • Thanks ruaok for sending them my way
      • ruaok
        np
      • reosarevok
From that talk, I'll at least work on making one report for reused Wikidata URLs, hopefully we'll find some issues to fix with that too
      • People still up for reviews tonight: yvanzo, shivam-kapila, _lucifer, alastairp, jmp_music
      • shivam-kapila: go? :)
      • Or maybe alastairp
      • alastairp
        hello
      • as ruaok said, I spent a big bit of time last week updating LB startup to use the new consul-template (I say "new", but MBS switched to it 3 years ago or something)
      • reosarevok
Eh, for our speed, that's totally nw
      • *new
      • We've been "soon getting rid of Wikipedia links" for 5 years or so!
      • alastairp
that's going well, and I had some good discussions with bitmap and ruaok about how this all fits together, and unifying the process between MBS and other python brainzes
      • reosarevok
        !m alastairp
      • BrainzBot
        You're doing good work, alastairp!
      • alastairp
as a part of that I built and pushed a bunch of new docker-python images based on that newer consul-template base image
      • shivam-kapila
(sorry I missed the ping I am here now)
      • alastairp
I reviewed and merged a bunch of LB PRs, including a bunch of version upgrades. the pending ones require some code changes
      • I updated the dataset hoster to send error messages to sentry
      • and I opened https://github.com/metabrainz/listenbrainz-serv... to return JSON error messages from the API
      • that's it, shivam-kapila?
      • shivam-kapila
        Thanks
      • Hi everyone. Last week I digged some more into the cover art integration
      • and opened some tickets
      • Being slow as I am busy preparing for GATE
      • thats it.Thanks
      • yvanzo: go!
      • yvanzo
        hi!
      • last week I mostly did MBS PR reviews and HTTPSified a few thousand of URLs
      • I also worked on documenting MusicBrainz search architecture.
      • reosarevok
        Yay
      • yvanzo
      • Fin, go _lucifer?
      • reosarevok
<3 finally I'll understand that complicated mess better! :D
      • Thanks :)
      • Or if _lucifer is not around, what about jmp_music? :)
      • yvanzo
reosarevok: updated the page with explanatory schemas.
      • reosarevok
        Thanks :)
      • jmp_music__: around?
      • yvanzo
Neither jmp_music__ nor _lucifer it seems.
      • reosarevok
If not, we an stop the reviews for the day, unless someone else came up with a last minute thing
      • ruaok: GSoC?
      • ruaok
        so...
      • as you may know, GSoC is being cut in half.
      • projects used to be defined as 350 hour projects.
      • Mr_Monkey
      • ruaok
and now they will be 175 our projects.
      • +h
      • which is all sorts of annoying
      • well, we should apply in any case and see how it shakes out.
      • which means that we need to take the GSoC ideas page, make one for 2020 and work out who to chop projects into smaller bits so that we can pitch them as GSoC ideas.
      • now, I have another idea about this.
      • what if we make everyone propose a SECOND half of the summer project.
      • and if they do really well on the first half, we will continue on and MeB will pay for the second half.
      • reosarevok
I think several projects we'd have would have worked better as smaller, better contained projects tbh, I don't necessarily hate the idea.
      • ruaok
        for 1-3 people, perhaps?
      • reosarevok
But if we can afford that and we really work well with someone, that doesn't seem bad
      • ruaok
reosarevok: agreed, but we often had projects that were longer running -- at least in LB land where we wanted to get projects in production.
      • we can't really do those anymore.
      • reosarevok
Keep in mind though that some might have internships already for then :) (since part of why they're shortening it is so that people can do both without doing them side by side)
      • shivam-kapila
ruaok: the GSoC program is still like 10 weeks from 13 so dont know many students will be available post summer breaks
      • Mr_Monkey
I do like the idea, but it does indeed require that the student not have any commitments afterwards
      • ruaok
well, have a think. I'll be pinging the project leads iin the next two weeks to work over these lists.
      • reosarevok
But I think at least having one position where it can be like "propose something sensible for this amount of hours, if you get it done fast and well we can maybe offer you a second project" seems good
      • Especially for something like those LB projects
      • ruaok
        reosarevok: that, yes.
      • reosarevok
        3 might be a lot though :)
      • alastairp
        shivam-kapila: good point, thanks
      • ruaok
and we have some people who might work with us again, and if we know them then even better.
      • reosarevok
I think testing with one or at most 2 would be safest
      • ruaok
        likely.
      • Chinmay3199 joined the channel
      • so, this was a heads up, I'll possibly have a follow up topic in 2 weeks time if it warrants follow up.
      • back to you reo.
      • reosarevok
So, in the meantime, everyone should come up with ideas?
      • Ok, people, think a thought or two! :)
      • shivam-kapila
reosarevok: not talking about money but the project can beleft hanging half done
      • grimler32
any al1ens or t1me travelers here?
      • ruaok
yes and reform the exisiting ideas on the page
      • reosarevok
shivam-kapila: sure, the first half would need to be reasonably self-contained IMO
      • Anyway, that's all as far as I can tell
      • Anyone has any last minute topics?
      • Mr_Monkey
        #area51
      • shivam-kapila
yeah its worth the risk, but not for more than 2-3 imo
      • reosarevok
Normal ones, not para-normal ones, Mr_Monkey
      • If not, I think it's time to close this :)
      • yvanzo
Ideas have always been self-contained afaik.
      • reosarevok
Have a good week, take care, appreciate what you have and think it could always be a lot worse (but isn't).
      • grimler32
        I need a d1mensional warp generat0r or the xk mem0 replica
      • yvanzo
And there always have had possible continuations in it, we should just develope these for the second part.
      • Mr_Monkey
Thanks for taking over the meeting reosarevok !
      • reosarevok

(I have 2 ideas for LB, I will try to make a doc and get them reviewed by the mentors against need, urgency, features etc etc.)

      • kthxbye
      • grimler32
thanks is that a real group in freenodes?
      • Mr_Monkey
For all you faster-than-light engine repair and parts needs
      • ruaok
no, it doesn't exist yet, like it did tomorrow.
      • shivam-kapila
        oof. that was gooood
      • Mr_Monkey
Oh? I thought they fixed that in this continuum.
      • grimler32
oh. thanks but I need to connect with somone here. Much like whichwarpwatch.com will not exist till the year 2050. so it won't do me much good
      • ruaok
I thought that the DNS system was completely replace in 2038 after time_t rolled over...
      • grimler32
is there is simple way to build a device from parts here which can transfer my conciousness back to my younger self like the xk memo replica can?
      • yvanzo
      • ruaok
I think I saw a Raspberry Pi hat that can do that, but you need to do some coding to tune it for your needs.
