what happens when someone asks for their account to be deleted? do we just rename it, or do we do stuff like delete their subscriptions as well?

nikki: I think in the past we've said: you clear out as much data as you can, including deleting your subs and stuff; we'll remove your email address, zap the password, and rename the account to something like "deleted-123456".

deleted users shouldn't exist at all :-)

well I can understand them being there for stuff like edits

but, having said all that: users these days have a lot more data attached to them than they used to

so asking them to remove their own data may be inappropriate / impractical these days.

IIRC I've only "deleted" about 4 users in 8 years or so.

I spent the week in SLO with ruaok, and had a great time hacking away

i spent just about the whole week working on improving the edit migration script

we now have this *done* and it runs in an appropriate time

with great results at that.

down from 12h to about 2h at most

well, I tried to run the script from the beginning and was rewarded with pages of errors.

some more cleanup work is required. :)

sadly, this sets me another week behind schedule, which is hopefully not too much of a problem because i'm still ahead of warp :)

then the branch was out of date...

I saw the massive wall of errors and left it.

can you please look after that after the meeting?

but, overall the script should run in a reasonable amount of time now.

the thing that was slow?

Moose object creation.

not a problem when you have a handful of them in a page request.

but when you need to create 10M of them in a short period of time, its really bogs down. :(

I had some issues crop up unrelated to musicbrainz which has caused me to not work from wednesday till today.

I was working on lazy loading in the release editor as some of you may remember

most of that is done, there were still some issues with adding a new disc and such.

haven't tested it at all with a new release (so there's nothing to lazy load)

so, hopefully a good day of hacking and it's on code review.

good. lets hope for that tomorrow.

as for me, ocharles mostly covered it.

we did some hacking on the script, which is in good shape now.

we also did some team building (read: drink beer)

it was nice to actually fart around with ocharles in the same room and work on some optimization stuff.

next year it will be warp's turn. :)

but on the last day ocharles was here I came down with a cold, which was getting better over the weekend.

i luckily seemed to have escaped that... so far

but today its not doing so well. I'll probably just head back to bed after this meeting.

I have been working on a MusicBrainz tagger for video clips

for use inside the BBC

enjayhch: woah, sounds cool

talks to an internal database that contains prgramme information, called PIPs

that has a RESTful API

it allows Content Producers to put video clips on artist pages
