but I bet your biking options were limited to none, right?
      • warp
        correct
      • and in the weather over there that doesn't seem like a great option either.
      • ruaok
its fine when you're on the bike. but when you stop? thats problematic.
      • happens here too.
      • feels like someone opened a faucet over my head.
      • warp
just walking I already arrived at alex a bit sweatier than I would've liked.
      • (but it sure beats waiting for unreliable taxi's in rush hour)
      • ruaok
I was about to say, didn't you have a personal taxi driver?
      • warp
well, you call them and throughing most of the day you'll have a car in about 15 minutes.
      • but definitely not at 17:00
      • ruaok
        ah
      • djce joined the channel
      • warp
I had the phone numbers of two drivers I knew fairly well, so I was able to call them myself. but any kind of response other than "I'll be there in 15 minutes" I wouldn't understand with my level of spanish
      • so I would then have to call alex to call the driver to ask if someone was going to pick me up
      • ruaok
        I feel that.
      • when my mobile rings from a number that I dont know, I almost always have to pass it to aleta.
      • phone calls are very hard. so little context.
      • warp
        yes

      • nikki appears
      • ruaok
        hi nikki
      • nikki
        hi
      • nikki avoids the phone call problem by never using the phone :P
      • ruaok
nikki: ocharles says: testers: please pop '72.29.166.157 lolo.musicbrainz.org' in /etc/hosts, and see if that site works the same as musicbrainz.org
      • nikki
        yes
      • ruaok
        k
      • nikki
is that pointing to the live db?
      • ruaok
        I believe so.
      • not sure what code its running tho
      • ocharles
        master
      • djce joined the channel
      • i wouldn't point two different revisions at the same db :)
      • warp
nikki: I'm carton / CPAN hell issues on rika, so I haven't been able to get the ajax cover art uploader running there yet.
      • ocharles
        other than beta
      • warp
        +having
      • nikki
        warp: :/
      • warp
nikki: do you think there is a carton local on rika somewhere I can just sneakily cp -vpr ?
      • nikki
uhh, not sure. maybe reo's would work?
      • andreypopp joined the channel
      • warp
hm, bitmap has a perl-fcgi process on that machine hogging a core
      • nikki: well, the server starts but things are 504 sleeping on rika.
      • nikki
        heh
      • bitmap was complaining about 504s XD
      • warp
that seems to be the only misbehaving process, running for 6 hours now.
      • (but I don't want to just randomly kill other people's processes)
      • nikki
browsing without user scripts is a strange experience...
      • warp
the machine still has 7 more cores, it shouldn't be 504'ing _just_ because of that perl-fcgi.
      • nikki
ocharles: http://musicbrainz.org/edit/23057538 loads fine, http://lolo.musicbrainz.org/edit/23057538 says it has an error, so it seems they're not running the same code
      • ocharles investigates
      • ocharles
oh, maybe the server didn't restart
      • one moment, lolo is going to go down a second
      • yes, it hasn't been restarted since jul 02, that's not right
      • nikki: fixed
      • nikki
also can I access the other servers directly by doing similar things in /etc/hosts? :P I've often wondered if there's a way to do that
      • thanks
      • ruaok
        no
      • ocharles
nikki: not without me messing with the configs more, and the way I've done it now is a hack
      • nikki
        aw
      • ocharles
so if you do want that, then open a ticket and we can make it happen later
      • though the easiest is giving you vpn access, then you get that for free!
      • zas joined the channel
      • but that's not really the right solution :)
      • nikki
well, it's not really important. the servers seem to be behaving themselves lately
      • maybe if they start acting up all the time again I'll ask
      • andreypopp joined the channel
      • warp
nikki: ok, my sandbox is running.
      • nikki
        \o/
      • warp
        nikki: but!
      • ruaok
        there is always a butt
      • errr
      • :-)
      • nikki
ocharles: I browsed around a bit and did some edits and haven't noticed anything so far
      • warp
nikki: it is running with the test dataset, so there's only a few albums in there. (like the love bug http://warp.mbsandbox.org/release/aff4a693-5970... :)
      • nikki: that also means there are not many users, you can login with username "kuno", password "byld".
      • nikki: and the coverart redirect service isn't running, so after you upload an image you won't be able to see it.
      • nikki
        ok
      • warp
oh, and it uploads to rika, not the real ia servers.
      • warp looks at the broken diff ocharles mentioned earlier.
      • nikki wonders how she can schedule fixing the indexed search so we can get rid of the direct search :P
      • warp likes direct search
      • ocharles: merging master fixed the diff.
      • nikki
it's buggy, inflexible and having three search methods plus two more in the inline search is terribly confusing
      • warp
oh ocharles already gave the uploader a shippit.
      • nikki: are you tesing on the sandbox now? if so I'll wait, but otherwise I can ship the ajax uploader to beta today.
      • nikki
no, right now I'm in the middle of adding an awkward release on lolo
      • warp
        :)
      • do you want test it on the sandbox first? or do you prefer to have it on beta?
      • nikki
I can test it on the sandbox first when I'm done with this
      • warp
ok, great, let me know when you're done :)
      • nikki
        sure
      • warp: oh, the way the ajax uploader works means http://tickets.musicbrainz.org/browse/MBS-4695 shouldn't happen, right?
      • warp: well... it just says "⚠ Error uploading image" :P
      • warp
nikki: I think that already shouldn't happen with the server-side changes we did for .gif/.png support.
      • nikki: boo :(
      • nikki
and the filesizes are wrong or confusing or something... it says "1.46Mb" for a 192 kb file
      • warp
        oh wow
      • jonjomckay joined the channel
      • (the display of those sizes is done by a third-party library, though there could also be some error reading the filesize)
      • nikki
the gif's size seems ok though, that one says "21.12KB" for what osx says is 22 kb
      • warp
did any of your test files upload?
      • nikki
        nope
      • just the same "error uploading image" thing
      • warp
        which browser is this?
      • nikki
        opera
      • warp
        12 presumably, not 15, correct?
      • nikki
        heh
      • 15 won't even open on here XD
      • 12.14 iirc
      • (I've heard terrible things about it though, so it's perhaps good that it won't even let me run it)
      • warp
I love how I can never find anything in opera because it is the only program ever to have a complete frisian translation.
      • nikki
        haha
      • oh. oops. I was like "grr why can't I select multiple files" in safari... maybe because that's not the ajax uploader
      • warp
this opera isn't loading .css and such, weird
      • nikki
I guess my firefox is too old too
      • warp
wow, how old is your firefox?
      • nikki
it's 7.0.1, however old that is
      • warp
        that sounds pretty old
      • nikki
it shows the ajax uploader but nothing happens when I select files :P
      • warp is on firefox 22.
      • kepstin-work
that's older than the oldest supported firefox "extended support" release.
      • warp
nikki: meh, that's a shitty experience. it should fall back to the old iframe when the browser features we need are not available.
      • nikki
I could've sworn it used to work
      • but that was a long time ago, maybe I'm mistaken
      • warp
        alright, I have Opera 12.16
      • and I have nuked its configuration, and now it loads the page with .css and everything.
      • fractalizator joined the channel
      • nikki
        chrome also gives an error
      • (like opera)
      • ocharles
nikki: did that release add ok?
      • nikki
        yes
      • ocharles
        woot
      • ijabz joined the channel
      • nikki
I added a couple of urls and images too
      • ocharles
afaik that machine should be fine, I left it in full rotation for a few hours and heard nothing
      • nikki
the amazon image showed up, as did the caa image
      • warp
nikki: and how old is your chrome? :)
      • nikki
it claims to be 28.0.1500.71 and up to date
      • I don't know how to turn off auto-updating :P
      • warp
nikki: I get the error you describe in Opera 12, so that is something I definitely need to look into. firefox 22 and chrome 28 work for me.
      • nikki
but I don't use it for anything other than testing mb stuff anyway
      • warp
        chrome on osx?
      • nikki
        yes
      • warp
        I'll try some other chromes.
      • nikki
I get the same error in firefox 21 in linux on the laptop
      • also the same weird behaviour with file sizes
      • nikki wonders why it's using both MB and Mb
      • warp
yay, reproduced the chrome on mac issue as well.
      • this may just be a configuration issue
      • it tries to connect to localhost:5050
