Did anything ever come from the Genre feature request talk

I just noticed picard removes the genre from most files if you enable "clear existing tags"

I'm not sure if a release was release last night or not, or if that release has further work on this, but that's at least a prerequisite for the planned initial approach to genres.

and that patch isn't merged yet but hopefully makes it into the next one, it's pretty much ready to go (see e.g. bitmap.mbsandbox.org/artist/b10bbbfc-cf9e-42e0-... when logged-in)

(noting that tag calculation is weird on the sandboxes because they don't have all the raw data)

once there's an upstream notion of what is a genre and isn't then picard can maybe reflect that, but really it's mostly just going to use tags as it always has

at the moment I still go over all tags to find anything that matches a genre

but it seems silly to do it that way

I mostly just tell Picard to only use my own tags.

Which, of course, means that I have to add tags to everything myself.
