I finally got round to triple-booting my machine here at the weekend. RH9, Win98 or Debian Woody.

nice.

How are you liking RH9?
2003-07-01 18235, 2003
djce
It's ok.

Any major pitfalls with the ?.0 release?

There was an odd thing where syslog, crond etc were running in the wrong timezone.
2003-07-01 18203, 2003
djce
Which I hacked around.
2003-07-01 18208, 2003
ruaok just upgraded to 7.3 from 6.2 not too long ago.
2003-07-01 18219, 2003
djce
Then a few days later it was fixed by "up2date".
2003-07-01 18246, 2003
djce
I'd recommend all of 7.3, 8.0 and 9.0. No significant problems with any of them really.
2003-07-01 18204, 2003
ruaok
Cool.
2003-07-01 18222, 2003
ruaok
I'll probably still wait for 9.1 at least. :-)

Anyway, now I've got another 40Mb of storage space to spill into. And a second spindle for a swap partition.
2003-07-01 18259, 2003
ruaok
I need a second spindle for my ext3 journals.
2003-07-01 18225, 2003
djce
I have NO idea about anything that advanced. I just install it all with the defaults and let it rip.
2003-07-01 18244, 2003
djce
Maybe I should look into doing just that though.... might speed things up a bit.
2003-07-01 18254, 2003
djce
Any ideas where I can learn about that?
2003-07-01 18218, 2003

I just got a clue by four from my friends.

Kevin, who wrote the search stuff for MB, is now working at friendster.
2003-07-01 18219, 2003

And very soon he will be an expert on server optimization.
2003-07-01 18230, 2003
ruaok
And I get to pick his brain for MB. :-)
2003-07-01 18241, 2003

My setup at home is totally fnorked.

I've got ext2 over a software raid1 on a 1.2ghz machine and it feels like my unraided ext3 700mhz machine at the office.
2003-07-01 18204, 2003
djce
oh dear. Time to freshen things up. One day.
2003-07-01 18216, 2003

The suggested solution is to write the ext3 journals to a different drive and then use a long write ahead journal buffer and retard actual writes to the disk.

when post-ing data to the service for a query, its JUST the xml query, isn't it?
djce: When I go to remove a track from a CD, and then right after click on the 'View album mods', I get a blank page that says 'You have not entered any mods'. :-(
2003-07-01 18253, 2003
djce
No, the "view album mods" link is VERY limited.
2003-07-01 18207, 2003
djce
It really only finds album name edits, album adds and album removes.
2003-07-01 18207, 2003
ruaok
Because of my crappy db structure?
2003-07-01 18213, 2003
ruaok
Ahh.
2003-07-01 18223, 2003
djce
It's because the only real FK on "moderation" is artist.
2003-07-01 18229, 2003
djce
That's why "view artist mods" works,
2003-07-01 18235, 2003
djce
but "view album mods" doesn't.

I did try to make it look for track mods on that album too, but it turned out just to be really sllooooooow.
