Having problems with tagger vs. musicmatch. Anybody around?

not so much, I'm based on linux. I occasionally start it up in vmware though

Running win32 here so I guess it's out of bounds.

vmware runs win98 in a virtual machine, so I can do win32

maybe a recommendation. what would be the best win32 program to examine tag contents?

hmm .. I used to like Helium2, but I think that's become a pay program

that's more of a tag editor though, not sure it'll give you any raw info

I may end up writing my own tag inspector some day just so I can understand what's in those things.

I've been tagging my collection with the MB tagger for several months. Decided to re-build my musicmatch library. Now musicmatch is having trouble with new tags.

MB tagger use id3v1 or id3v2?

musicmatch does some weird things with the tags

MB is both. it always uses v2, optionally does v1 (both can exist in a file)

I've always heard bad things about musicmatch and tagging, so I've always avoided it

Probably an issue with musicmatch. I've been using it to rip my CD's because it's easy. Maybe I should switch to another program,.

I recommend CDex and LAME

I think the encoder in MusicMatch is considered pretty crappy too, if I recall correctly

CDex is win32 only, I think, so yeah

No problem. My linux box has been out of commission for almost a year.

Wish I could say the same. My kids need win32 for games so our computers are mostly running XP.

I'll check out CDex and LAME for the rest of my ripping. MusicMatch is beginning to be a headache.

sure

every time the tagger, or some other app, calls the lookup-info-by-TRM-id function

then the lookupcount for that TRM goes up by one

so, if I find what looks to be a homebrew/bogus album, and the TRMs have only been hit, like, once, I can use that to back up my theory?

sounds likely, yes. It could well mean that that album has only been tagged once or twice.

(presuming the lookup count gets bumped when it's put into the database)

When a TRM is first generated, it's count is zero.

So after the first round of tagging, it's still zero.

it only starts going up if you force an "analyze again" (?) on those files again
