        HI_Bob, just like cddb and/or freedb is supported in many programs now, MB will be supported more and more as well and ideally replace the other 'alternatives', it just takes time.

        That has proven to be a real pain for the DJs at the local radio station. Once the music library is loaded up, and you (hopefully) got all your Hawaiian diacritical marks correct, then the DJs have to know whether it is `Ukulele or Ukulele. One is at the beginning of the alphabet, and the other is at the end. That's what I mean by ALL the applications out there have to be able to cope...

        Yes, but it determines whether it is a good thing or a bad thing to hook you library manager to MB when you do your load up and tagging. If you do, and MB gives you good stuff, but then the application that uses the library fumbles it, you're dead.

        I had essentially the same resultant functionality on my old web site by having duplicate artist, album title, and song title fields.

        When user asks to search, I strip all the funny things, and search against the vanilla fields, and then display the proper fields.

        freso: the way to workaround the issue you encountered is to first add the artist then do the track change, that's why you cant find it

        I guess it depends on how heavy the volume of searching is whether there is a performance issue with comparing any sort of 'a' umlaut, kahako, circonflex, ... against any other sort of 'a' and making the match. (That's what I meant by "on the fly")

The alternative would have been to file it under "Various Artists" and then moved it to single artist. Which I'm, admittedly, kind of weary of doing, since it's better to have Kristian Bugge (correctly) listed as the disc artist, than it is to have the disc (incorrectly) listed as a "V
