so is it allowed to put the interlude and prelude in brackets her , too ?http://musicbrainz.org/show/release/?releaseid=545720
deadchip
VxJasonxV: what's the document type anyway?
VxJasonxV: if it's strict, you could check on zvon.org, they are a good resource for looking specs up
yeah umm it's XHTML 1.1
Shepard
no, I said if it *has* a sub title
deadchip
VxJasonxV: if you want to have it validate as XHTML 1.1 then make it XHTML 1.1 :P
otherwise just declare it as HTML 4.01 ;)
(that's not an insult, it's a reasonable recommendation)
Shepard
argh amazon is behaving strange... first it doesn't show a tracklist and then it does for one and the same link
VxJasonxV
I added an xhtml 1.1 doctype in, there's really no reason it shouldn't be html 4.01 though
deadchip
that was not the point, i wasn't saying "your HTML isn't good enough for XHTML"
but XHTML 1.1 _is_ strict and weird in some things
HairMetalAddict recommends aiming for XHTML 1.0 Transitional first. Easier to do, and easier to update to a Strict format from that point than from an HTML standard.
FauxFaux
XHTML 1.0 Basic is better. ¬_¬
HairMetalAddict
Just the way I did things before due to my slow adoption of Strict. Old site in HTML > converted to XTHML 1.0 transitional > converted to XHTML 1.0 Strict > converted to XHTML 1.1 strict ... slow transition as I was learning the standards
deadchip
yeah XHTML 1.0 transitional is less weird for sure
lol
HairMetalAddict: yeah
enjayhch cries at last.fm's current lack of MusicBrainz IDs
Muz
We lack a liscence to import the data at the moment
enjayhch
will that be resolved soon?
Muz
No idea
Hopefully yes, but in reality it could be a different matter
enjayhch
what are you doing with the data that breaks the CC license?
HairMetalAddict
Mmm, working on a CMS (think "PHP-Nuke without the overload of security issues and bugs" :P ) that has a CSS layout and follows standards. For now, it's following XHTML 1.0 Transitional just for sake of simplicity. Once a stable release is done, I'll work on upgrading to 1.0 or 1.1 Strict.
enjayhch
oh, 'commercial'
deadchip
does anyone have a musicbrainz icon/image/logo in SVG?
HairMetalAddict wonders how expensive the commercial license is that all his volunteer editing can't be used by last.fm, the other site he volunteer-moderates at
my initial goal was using it for MB, some Performance rights organisations allow you to search their db for tracks which can be used in MB edit disputes
as addition official proof

srotta
Hmm, it's been a while since I read French, but from what I gather, SNEP is a publishers' union.
Prodoc
so kind of like the RIAA? nothing to do with the actual registering of works and collection royalties?
srotta
I don't know if they even register works in France, I'd think not :P
But the royalty collection might be the job for SDRM.
could you translate: 'La Sdrm regroupe actuellement les cinq associés suivants'
srotta
Hmm. "SDRM currently consists of the following five associations."
Probably not exact, but I think it catches the idea. 8)
Prodoc
from what I can tell the SDRM is about just reproduction or mechanical rights, isn't it?
I think it is, great, that was still a missing link in my list in France
srotta
It seems so.
Prodoc
cheers srotta
deadchip
yeah it's i think like GEMA in Germany
there is a fee on every blank casette tape you buy
and as of right now, i am not sure if there isn't such a fee on blank CD-Rs/DVD-R(W)s
i think on every blank recording medium that can be used to record audio or video
Prodoc
GEMA does both performance and mechanical rights, most countries don't have one body for that
what is it with French sites with no English translation?!? ;-)
VxJasonxV
what is it with English sites with no French translation?
Prodoc
since English is the official world language the need for an English translation is greater than a French translation. People are expected to know at least English ;-)
|420am| has quit
who can give me a summary of which groups the French SGDL represents? (http://www.sgdl.org)
srotta
Bah, Chinese is more of a world language 8)
deadchip
hmm
Prodoc: GEMA does performance rights as well?
i thought they are doing only what you've been calling technical
putting extra "taxes" on blank media, etc
Prodoc
yes
srotta
Prodoc: A writers' association?
deadchip
well tbh i never dealt much with GEMA nor cared about them >_>
VxJasonxV what is it with English sites with no French translation? <-- lol
Prodoc
in the future I think it's good to include the Performance rights organisation for each release in MB. I didn't see it on sites yet. The info in printed on most releases and by storing it in MB it can be used again to e.g. contact the organistaion when you want to use a track for what ever reason
Russ[work]
PROs don't control rights for performances outside their own country
MrQwerty joined the channel
with the possible exception of within the EU
Prodoc
true in a lot of cases yes, but at least it a starting lead for those who do need the info.
it's a close as you can get since this is info which can be copied from the cover or disc
