on the PicardLinuxInstall paqge.. it mentiuons the "Debian Experimental repository" I've never heard of such a thing. Maybe a link to some info about it is in order?

experimental isn't widely used by non-developers, afaik

why is picard in there anyway?

because it depends on a new libtunepimp package

which can't go to unstable, because it would break some apps

for some reason i'm getting an old python-tunepimp whiuch doesn't meet picards version dependency

you need to install the one from experimental

how do you specify to get that one rather than the other one?

try apt-get -t experimental install picard

and if that doesn't work

try apt-get -t experimental install picard/experimental python-tunepimp/experimental

whats the most reliable linux program to go through a collection of mp3 files and properly tag them from the musicbrainz data? the most reliable way?

only about 200 out of 600 files made it out of "Unclustered" files into "Album cliusters":

i'm not putting anything into musicbrainz, just trying to tag what i have.

yep, i see it in the configure script, but i'm pretty sure the library doesn't use it

but if it's never seen the files you're submitting before, then you should generate the PUIDs and submit them for other

put it this way, if you ripped the mp3s from a CD, chances are it will find the release since most popular releases have puids submitted for them

Mutiny_: select the files and click the "Analyze" button

if the release is obscure or the files you got are not close representations of the originals, you may have to do a bit more work

luks: I'm curious how PicardQt tags flac files... does it recreate the entire 30MB file with new tags?

I'm curious because when I tag my flac files for the first time with PicardQt they take... 15 seconds or more each

they usually have paddings

subsequent taggings take < 1 sec

then the padding is probably not big enough and it needs to move the whole file

okay, it might also be that Amarok 1.4.3 ruined some of my flac files... so Picard is fixing them

Amarok ruined the tags in 1.4.3 which made the files appear corrupted

luks: I'm reading the PicardQt wiki page and under Mac OS X Installation Notes kuno says you need to set the cdrom to something asnd that you cannot use python-musicbrainz2-0.4.0 if you want to lookup cds

yes, there is a bug in 0.4.0

it always uses /dev/rdisk1

and you also need the SVN version for fingerprinting...

but I can lookup cds

/dev/rdisk1 is the default CD-drive, I guess

without anything set for thte cdrom
