Kerensky97: what's the correct way to show that a band changed its name?
2007-03-01 06050, 2007
Kerensky97
There's no AR for that yet so an artist annotation to the new band is the only way right now.
2007-03-01 06000, 2007
Jugdish
:/
2007-03-01 06027, 2007
Jugdish
i saw a discussion about it on the mailing list a few months back and people were suggesting to use the "performs as" AR
2007-03-01 06032, 2007
Kerensky97
I've seen that tried a few times and it gets voted down because people don't like using "group performs as group" since the members may change.
2007-03-01 06009, 2007
Kerensky97
Even when a band has a split personality they use it gets voted down.
2007-03-01 06015, 2007
Jugdish
what's the plan for handling this in the future? will there eventually be a new AR for it?
2007-03-01 06027, 2007
Kerensky97
Nothing official has been put forward yet, but I think most people want some kind of relationship link for that.
2007-03-01 06047, 2007
Kerensky97
But an RFC and RFV would have to be done to work out the specifics and figure out just how it would be applied to the database.

what exactly are RFC's and RFV's?
2007-03-01 06016, 2007
Aankhen``
RFC = Request For Comments.
2007-03-01 06022, 2007
Aankhen``
Usually interpreted as a proposal.
2007-03-01 06034, 2007
Aankhen``
I'm not sure what an RFV is. Probably a Request For Votes or something.
2007-03-01 06047, 2007
Kerensky97
It stands for "Request for Comments" and "Request for Veto", it's basically the process of having everybody discuss the issue on the mailing lists and working out what to do.
2007-03-01 06056, 2007
Aankhen``
Ah, Veto. I was close!
2007-03-01 06049, 2007
Kerensky97
It's kind of a painful process though. Even when it seems striaght forward like this people have a tendancy to bog things down in sematics. Imagine spending two weeks arguing with people if the AR should say "A changed their name to B", "A was renamed to B", or "A is now B".
