does anyone know what happened to the Hairspray soundtrack entry in the database? it appears to be deleted
or rather, why was it deleted might be the more accurate question :p
I suppose it was probably just so badly entered
and voted down, maybe
oh well
copper
isn't there a log page or something?
Kilu
no idea
BrianFreud
Can't say for certain, but the only one I can find that looks like it was the 2007 soundtrack (which I assume is the version you mean), from what little I can find still in the db, it was incorrectly added
album artist as VA, not Marc Shaiman - performers, not composer
if someone doesn't beat me to it, I'm probably adding it tomorrow
just doing some quick tagging right now :p
BrianFreud
it's on my eventual list too, so if you miss it, I'll get it :)
OT: I used to live on the street where the original was filmed :)
Kilu
haha
BrianFreud
sad part is how true the movie is - I was there for college, but the "born here" townies... kinda scary
Kilu
I haven't seen the movie, thank god :D
BrianFreud
lol - well, for that part of baltimore, imagine huge hairnetted hair, pink flamingo lawn sculptures as "high art", and most of the local women you know being perfectly accepted as greatgrandmothers by the time they turn 60...
Kilu
sounds quite awesome :D
BrianFreud
lol
oh yes, and the two main points of "Bawlmerese"...

everyone you know is Mr or Miss or Mrs (first name), and you call everyone "hon"
I managed to escape untouched, save for the occasional slip into saying "thanks hon" :)
Kilu

anyone know if we ever came to a decision on quite how to handle tracklists where two languages are included, either via / or parenthesis?
10 track release, each track listed as German / English - aka: Nach Dem Knall / After The Explosion

also, odd situation here. Original work titles were in Italian. They were then translated to English and released with English titles. Then, there's this work, which translated
the Italian to German, and then translated the German titles to English - the english translations on this release clearly show the effects of "double translation"
So what is a translation of what, from an AR point of view?
ie, would we relate each track back to the original work for the "is a translation of" AR, or the English (2) release to the German release, then the German release to the Italian release?

where do i go to create a gruop on last.fm, anyone know?
it discusses official transl*ations, and I went back and read the original proposal, and it also directly states that the AR would be for both pr's and official
dholmes
I propose solving the problem by flipping a coin, and telling no one
CatCat
that seems borked to me
thery should be seperated
with differnt ars
they are two differnt things entirely
how else will people know?
sometimes @psudo@ ishnt set
BrianFreud
well, the difference is that one release would have p-r set, the other would have official set
the AR gives different info than the release state
CatCat
sometimes 'psudo' isn't set
wtf is p-r?
BrianFreud
pseudo-release
CatCat
sometiems peope ldont set that, but they use the ar
BrianFreud
well, that's a different issue :)
lol
CatCat
now if both official translations (that may even have the music in singign in a differnt language) is with the same ar as musicbrainz1s created psudo-release with the same ar
thats not good
BrianFreud
but my sense is, based on the AR's history, the release is official if it's listed on the liner in that translation, and p-r if it's an unofficial transl*ation - but that AR can be used to relate either type back to the original language listing
CatCat
i say our trnsliteration thign should *only* be used for our psudo releases, and we sould use @other version* or have a new ar for actual translated releases (that exsist) and another for transalted oens where they sing differntly
BrianFreud
which would seem to indicate that the AR relates to the music itself, not the titles - or we'd also be using that AR, say, for the Rocky Horror Norsjk version to link it to the Rocky Horror Show (english) version, etc
yes
1) Same work, different transl*ation of title (possibly basing the ARs then on transl*tion history), 2) same work, different performance, 3) same work, different version and performance
CatCat
to tired now brainfrø
cant think
BrianFreud
lol, np
CatCat
no lol
BrianFreud
ok
just happened to find this one wwhen I accidentally searched for Morricone in title, instead of artist
someone had reversed the title and artist
:P
CatCat
those are annoying
BrianFreud
yeah
CatCat
specially if thy are VA
BrianFreud
worse yet, it's one of those with all tracks listed in both German and English
duckman joined the channel
CatCat
before had to do them oen on one becasue va released had no edit all
BrianFreud
so fixing the artist, correcting the english's caps issues, and adding the german release
just then had the question of how to relate the english and german ones, plus how to relate both back to the original italian releases
