I admit a bias though, in that they're performing Steve Reich :D
      • yllona
steve reich? creature you might want to check that out on last.fm .... see if you like it. i like it, but it will be very, very different from the lush, elegant concert you just heard
      • creature
        Heh.
      • Thanks for the warning. :)
      • yllona
ah, it's tempered with other composers.. and only one reich piece
      • BrianFreud
yllona: it's J.S. Bach, Cashian, Boulez, Villa-Lobos, and Reich
      • yllona
        yeah, intersting
      • i'd kill for the villa-lobos
      • BrianFreud would love to see Music for 18 Musicians live some day
      • MrQwerty` has quit
      • creature: you've got *three* villa-lobos works in the first concert. a definite must.
      • there's boatloads of villa-lobos on last.fm
      • BrianFreud
The only Reich I think would annony me live would be The Cave - and I think that was tied to the multimedia show, not live
      • oooh, and the London Sinfonietta is performing Music for 18 Musicians in London on the 28th...
      • BrianFreud is envious of the Londers
      • uh, Londoners
      • yllona
i think reichs='s "cello counterpoint" is on last.fm, and that's a bit different from his other works
      • BrianFreud
yes, it's a bit less "Reich" and a bit more traditional
      • creature
        I don't know what villa-lobos is.
      • yllona
        creature: heitor villa-lobos
      • great brazillian 20th century classical composer.
      • BrianFreud
man, London is getting a massive Reich performance calender this spring
      • Endymion on the 26th (Cello Counterpoint), London Sinfonietta on the 27th (Music for 18 Musicians), New Noise ensemble on the 6th of May (Four Organs
      • yllona
most importantly he placed all his compositions in the public domain at the time of his death so it makes it easy for small classical companies to perform his works. which are quite beautiful
      • BrianFreud
then May 8th Trinity College (City Life),
      • and in September, Drumming-Part One, Eight Lines, Piano Phase, Four Organs, Violin Phase, Music for Pieces of Wood, and Pendulum Music all in a single 3-night show...
      • BrianFreud is quite envious indeed
      • yllona
        creature: here's villa-lobos: http://www.last.fm/music/Heitor+Villa-Lobos
      • creature
I will give him a listen.
      • BrianFreud
closest Reich performance to me in the next year is 8 hours away in NYC :(
      • (looking at Reich's calender) - looks like maybe we'll have a new album of his music this year... he has a new work premiering at the end of March
      • yllona
creature steve reich's cello counterpoint is fully streamable here: http://www.last.fm/music/Steve+Reich/_/Cello+Co...
      • BrianFreud
or, rather, premiered. "Double Sextet" sounds interesting...
      • yllona
see if you like it. that endymion program is *really* interesting.
      • creature
yllona: Thanks. I'm not going to listen tonight (going to bed) but I'll check it out soon.
      • yllona
creature: sure thing :). as you can tell i get excited about classical music, especially when young people are willing to go.
      • BrianFreud
agreed - and that show is also programmed for a really nice intro to 20th century classical, which is quite different from what you think of when you think of "classical music"
      • yllona
        BrianFreud: exactly
      • BrianFreud
        MBChatLogger: OFF
      • MBChatLogger

      • is logging
      • creature
        Haha.
      • http://music.guardian.co.uk/classical/story/0,,... might interest (came across this earlier this week).
      • yllona
creature: thanks for that, very true. as i said i *adore* this man
      • creature
I'm off to bed now. Night all.

theoretically 10 seconds, but I've seen them generate for as low as 7 sec, and some rare ones longer than 10 sec that don't generate them for whatever reason

      • BrianFreud
NAT under the original artist with the (remix bit) and a remixer AR to the remixer
      • nikki
        ah
      • it's confusing me because they've been given artist names and there's no remix info >_<
      • BrianFreud
        "songX remixed by foo"?
      • maybe just "songX (foo remix)"?
      • nikki
y'know, I used to absolutely hate the fact we have several entries for an album if the track list differs, but now it bothers me we combine different releases into the same one if the track list doesn't differ
      • possibly 'cause of all these h!p singles having two versions where the only difference (other than the catalogue number) is the cover art
      • ehh! they're changing the designs of the uk coins :o

      • (which can't be all that much fun with a cassette :)
      • mudcrow
I sent him an email asking him which bands were him & Dave Smith on that tape, as I know a lot of the tracks were by them. He sent me a huge list of who played what instrument on each track, producers, dates recorded, dates composed. It's amazing, and he even apologised that he couldnt remember some dates
      • MrQwerty` joined the channel
      • I would think cassettes were easier than vinyl, at least you can pause a cassette & the only major noise problem is hiss. vinyl is a pain in the bottom to rip

      • Quasimodo - S HSV S S Vc - SV S - V V 4:10 --.--.81 --.--.81 makes sense to me as I know who S, H, & V are. S= Dave Smith, V = Dave Viner, H= Neil Harvey
