I've got a few CDs that are unrecognized and when I go to the URL for them, it says "No release found with the given DiscID foo. Please try again." (with the discid). Usually there's a link to add the release info, but for 3-4 so far that's not there. I can't seem to find any solutions to this online, anyone have any ideas?
      • Wizzcat
you can't find the cds when searching?
      • marmoset
        some I can, some I can't
      • if I take the disc ID it gives me on that page, is there a link to click on on the release page that will let me add it?

      • King Henry VIII, Act III, Scene 1: "Orpheus with his lute"
      • MClemo
I did such a thing recently http://musicbrainz.org/release/59c44468-a000-40... I was going by the booklet most of the time. Style guides don't really cover all that anyway
      • Muz
Write up a style guide for it then!

      • xlotlu
guess it's time to encrypt my hdd and be ready to swallow the usb pen with the encryption key :)
      • Wizzcat
you have to be a bit daft to get caught to be honest
      • outsidecontext
it's alle very unclear at the moment, but if they really search my mp3 player at the customs, how do the differentiate legal from illegal files?

        Down with DRM!
      • xlotlu
        outsidecontext: it's obvious: if it isn't drm-ed it's illegal! :P
      • outsidecontext
i guess that's how it will be handled :(
      • Wizzcat
they'd have to make ripping illegal first
      • nikki
it is technically in some countries afaik
      • Wizzcat
you can also buy legal copies at amazon etc.
      • MBChatLogger
        Down with DRM!
      • Wizzcat
        without drm
      • srotta
That just means Amazon will have to stop that kind of disruptive behavior.
      • nikki
        haha
      • Wizzcat
oh well, guess someone will just have to develop an encrypted file system for rockbox
      • outsidecontext
yeah, but even if it is legal: i normally don't carry my cd collection around. i bet some overeager custom officers will make trouble.
      • srotta
And I don't have all the music I have in mp3 library in my cd collection.
      • xlotlu
Wizzcat: if you visit the US you *do* have to tell them your encryption key if they ask for it
      • srotta
        And they're perfectly legal.
      • Wizzcat
you can always fake a real file system, they won't notice the difference
      • or just nuke your library every time and ssh it over, not like it takes that long these days
      • xlotlu
they will. unless you run windows of course
      • outsidecontext
srotta: that's the point. purchased and free donwloads, creative commons licenses etc. it's all legal, but could casue trouble under such regulations
      • aCiD2
the extremes you lot go to, surely you all own you whole media collection so there is no problem
      • ;)
      • Wizzcat
I'm not sure they'd get far with these things, but most people can't afford to challenge them
      • srotta
outsidecontext: Well, mine are copied from library.
      • nikki
aCiD2: but how do you prove to them that you own it?
      • srotta
        outsidecontext: But yeah.
      • xlotlu
      • Wizzcat: not only US ^^ :)
      • aCiD2
nikki: generally it's easy to prove you own something than you don't.
      • but either way, it's a rediculous policy, and I hope it never comes to light
      • nikki
but without carrying your entire collection with you, you can't easily prove it there and then, so fuck knows how much hassle they'd give you before you get a chance to prove it
      • outsidecontext
        that's what i fear
      • srotta
And still, not owning something doesn't mean your copy is illegal.
      • It's lot harder to prove you own something immaterial.
      • aCiD2
        indeed
      • srotta
That's one problem with, for example, digital photographs. If you see your picture used without permission, it may be pretty hard to prove you've actually taken that picture.
      • nikki
I wonder how much effort they would put into it anyway...
      • srotta
        Probably not much.
      • 8)
      • nikki
would they bother trying to understand all my japanese filenames?
      • srotta
        Unless pushed to it.
      • Wizzcat
presumably they will have some automagic hardware to scan/fingerprint your audio
      • aCiD2
nikki: not from your country of origin. definitley stolen!
      • srotta
I know a guy who got a customs officer following him home, because he had a huge backpack full of camera equipment and that officer decided he's bought it all abroad and tries to smuggle it in.
      • nikki
        heh
      • funnily enough, I own way more japanese music than english music
      • Wizzcat: I would actually imagine them having some stupid tool which only works with specific filesystems/operating systems/directory structures because officials are never any good at implementing something that works like they say it does :P
      • oh, and music formats too
      • Wizzcat
well, usb and fat32 will get you a long way these days
      • xlotlu
are you supposed to use honorary titles in artist names? ("Sir" etc..)
      • nikki wouldn't
