"Song for Shelter" by "Fatboy Slim" from "Ministry of Sound: The Annual 2002 (disc 1)" [2001-11-05]
      • I'm not sure why, but that feels appropriate right now.
      • Muzzz goes to bed
      • Nn.
      • Grogdor
dang, why does MB write so slow? takes several seconds per file, sometimes it'll sit there for a minute or two before deciding to write..
      • navap
Anyone had any experience with storing mp3's on a remote server? Personal webserver, mp3tunes etc..
      • FauxFaux
Copy them there and play them over http?
      • navap
        Yes
      • FauxFaux did that at work for a while.
      • Or another protocol..ftp perhaps?
      • FauxFaux
Why? Http supports download and seeking..
      • navap
        Whats metadata does http send?
      • FauxFaux
        The file length?
      • The name.
      • Muzzz
hmmm would an sftp mount accrue too much overhead
      • FauxFaux
It'd currently cause much pain on Windows.
      • navap
I added a song into foobar, it just pulled the filename down, but when I played it all the metadata did show up
      • FauxFaux
Create a playlist with all the remote files in?
      • Grogdor
metadata is not pulled over http stream using ampache
      • you'd need to... shoutcast it, or something

navap: I use jukefly to stream my music, the flash interface is kinda gay though, and it's windows only for the time being
      • navap
I've used that, but its not streaming off a server, its off your computer
      • Wizzcat
well it could be if your server runs windows :)
      • navap
        lol
      • Wizzcat
but yeah, there's few good alternatives, that I've found at least
      • navap
Well I've been playing with the idea of hosting my music on my linux webhost
      • niklas has quit
      • Wizzcat
yeah I wish I could do that too, storing my music without raid makes me kinda nervous
      • navap
Well I'd have everything locally stored/backed up, but I have quite a bit of bandwidth from my webhost, and plenty of diskspace..so I've been thinking of getting a couple of peoples music collections and sticking them online and streaming them
      • Wizzcat
        ah, like so
      • navap
I've used various softwares and services to stream music from my computer out..jukefly, vibestreamer, daap, itunes, hamachi, wmp...and tons of small no name forgotten ones lol
      • Just recently started thinking of an online solution, because the one drawback of hosting myself was that I have a limited upload of ~75-100KBps...so everything ends up being transcoded :(
      • And if a second person starts streaming..well lol good luck

I tried the software, don't have the hardware, from what I remember of it, it was "nice"...nice to look at, and that was pretty much it
      • Grogdor
        jinzora is another one
      • navap
So its a php app, that I can stick on a remote webserver, stick mp3s up with it and stream down to my computer?
      • The screenshots are a bit misleading because it looks like a desktop app
      • Grogdor
yes, yes, yes.. just like ampache
      • navap
        Have you used it?
      • Grogdor
        yeah
      • navap
What do you like/dislike about it
