I think being excited about relationships between artists is a sign of MB addiction.

        hmm...
      • trying to add ARs for an album, and most get added, but some, no matter what, just don't get added for some reason...
      • is there a limit to how many ARs can be added??
      • Wizzcat
        what kind of ars
      • caillon
Programming, keyboards & guitar: Roland Orzabal, Alan Griffiths, Eg White, & Mark O'Donoughue.
      • Wizzcat
yeah, you can only have one instrument ar per person
      • but you can add multple instruments to one ar
      • caillon
        hm
      • Wizzcat
confused the hell out of me too
      • caillon
ok i suppose i can sorta buy that...
      • (though not necessarily agree)
      • Wizzcat
I'm sure there's a compelling reason for it
      • ruaok
        db complexity.
      • caillon
and I guess since there's a guitar programmed by Eg White already, that I can't have another Programmed as well...
      • ruaok
implementing ARs was brainbending, and that would've made is insanely complex. :-(
      • Wizzcat
        that you can caillon
      • as many as you want
      • caillon
Wizzcat, well that ain't working for me either
      • Wizzcat
or are you talking about the same person?
      • caillon
        same person, yea
      • Wizzcat
then I dunno, but why would you want two ars of the same thing?
      • caillon
Programming by Eg White. (...) Guitar programming (track 8) by Eg White.
      • Wizzcat
hmm well that should work I think, could swear I've done something similar before
      • caillon
        seems not to
      • at least not with different edits
      • Wizzcat
well no, if you have one you have to add it to the other
      • caillon
        that's not exactly obvious...
      • caillon goes through his edits and tries to figure out which to cancel to re-add
      • Wizzcat
no need to cancel anything, just edit the ars you have and add the extra instrument
      • caillon
        hm, good point
      • still would be nice if doing them separately would do the required edit, instead of just failing silently...
      • Wizzcat, anyway, thanks
      • Wizzcat
it would be nice, but it'd be rather complex
      • would be better if it actually told you that doing it was impossible and how to fix it, instead of as you say failing silently
      • caillon
don't think it would be that complex. if there is already an instrument AR and someone is trying to add another instrument AR, simply submit an edit instrument AR to have $old_instruments && $new_instruments
      • could most likely be done with some JavaScript
      • (without seeing any of the code at all)
      • perhaps have some sanity checking to make sure that the old instrument(s) aren't being re-added
      • anyway, goodnight. thanks again!

        hi
      • can i have a quiestion?
      • i cannot find picard log file, where is it stored?
      • juhae
depends on your os, i guess, on windows it's in the same directory where the executable is
      • mixomix_cz
I have Vista. It is strange because i dont see any .txt .log or anything familiar.
      • FauxFaux
Is it not in appdata -> musicbrainz -> picard or similar?
      • FauxFaux is at work.
      • mixomix_cz
        no its not
      • anyway i fixed the other problem without logs

      • LotR wonders if, when mirroring the MB database for his evil purposes, he could cram it into mysql for extra evil points
      • FauxFaux
        There's a mysql port, yes.
      • But postgres is far superior, anyway.
      • LotR
        yeah yeah
      • FauxFaux used to be a mysql fan too. =p
      • I'm not a mysql fan. it's just that my POE DBIx::Class component doesn't work with Pg
      • FauxFaux hates dbix class so much. D: Really, though, I'd've thought it'd've backed onto the perl jdbc stuff, which deifnitely works with postgres.
      • srotta
And of course it depends on your definition of superiority
      • 8)
      • LotR
DBIx::Class certainly works with Pg. It's just my POE component that doesn't
      • and 'perl jdbc stuff'?
      • FauxFaux
Like, the perl database wrapper. :p
      • LotR
        that's called DBI
      • and AFAIK it's much nicer than jdbc
      • (and if you don't even know about DBI, how can you know enough about DBIx::Class to hate it??)
      • FauxFaux
I've tried to work on a project using Catalyst, which highly encourages DBIX penis usage.
      • We were trying to back onto an existing database.
      • OH WAIT. NOT YOURS
      • So much anger.
      • Before you get patronising, yes, I understand the advantages of a database abstraction layer, but at the cost of requiring you to write complete crap to do a simple join with filter, or something like that.
      • It's portability / maintainability tradeoffs were obscene.
