I have seen libmusicbrainz-java commit logs but have no idea where to find it

If I like Beethoven a lot, what would you recommend besides Brahm's 1st symphony?

well, Brahms _is_ pretty much the only one that sounds like Beethoven

can go with other romantic composers... depends on what kind of stuff you like (symphonic or chamber or whatever)

It is easier for me to describe music based on Fourier Transforms than with timbre and melody

how are "sides" treated? as disks, or if two sides with 3 songs first track on second side is 4?

zeno__: Typically sides are treated as one release.

zeno__: So no different releases for different sides of a vinyl (or cassette...).

There are some issues with this approach, but mostly it works fine. I'd probably treat different sides of a DualDisc as separate releases, though.

I don't know why, exactly. :P VinylDisc is a similar corner case.

(picard still occassionally crashes here, so i don't dare more than about 10 albums at once)

but as it's not more than 600 albums or so, it doesn't crash most of the time

would be io capped here. my music is not on the machine running picard but on a network share :)
