quick question. i'm about to add an audio rip of a live dvd, which wasnt released officially as audio cd. should i put bootleg or pseudo-release as release status? or should i proceed otherwise?
      • navap
pseudo-release is generally only used for translations/transliterations.
      • Bootleg sounds better.
      • freezy3k
        bootleg sounds so illegal ;)
      • navap
        Wait, what are you adding?
      • You're just adding the tracklist of the dvd?
      • The "tracklist" rather.
      • Then it should be official I think.
      • I think that's how I've seen other dvds entered.
      • freezy3k
well the dvd is called johnny guitar watson live at leverkusen
      • however i cant find proper info about the dvd either.
      • i saw the concert once on tv, started recording it and got the missing tracks from the internet
      • so there must be a dvd somewhere i guess

hello guys, i'm kind of clueless on how to add this coldplay release http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Singles_1999%E... can anyone please help me out ?
      • Munger
      • dankine
xand_: go to coldplay page, add release...
      • ;p
      • fupp
        how come 'the' is used 32767 times in both albums, artists and tracks? I got this from select artistusecount, albumusecount, trackusecount from wordlist where word='the';
      • xand_
        dankine, i'm following
      • Munger
fupp, And the integer 32767 means nothing to you?
      • dankine
i assume you mean the fact that theyre all 7"?
      • top value of....something?
      • Munger
32767 is the largest signed two-byte integer
      • fupp
        ah, right
      • Munger
Which makes me wonder what the hell uses two-byte integers these days

dankine, did you quit on me ? :)
      • dankine
no, i just dont know how you would add 14 7in vinyls as one release
      • stereohead joined the channel
      • never actually added multi disc things
      • xand_
dankine, yeah i don't get that too ...:/
      • stereohead has left the channel
      • dankine
        navap you about?
      • navap
        Yes
      • dankine
soz to bother you, but how would you recommend adding 14 7inch vinyl single releases?
      • that are one large release as a whole
      • navap
At the moment, each release entity in MusicBrainz corresponds to a physical disc (both sides of a vinyl). So your only option would be to add 14 releases inside a release group, give them (disc 1) to (disc 14), and also create the proper relationships between them.
      • dankine
        cheers
      • there you go xand_
      • navap
      • xand_
navap, dankine: thanks guys, gonna give it a try
      • dankine
        gl :)
      • xand_
guys, will the sides (A or B, 1234...etc) go on the track title as seen on wikipedia ?
      • navap
        No
      • You can add it to the annotation though if you want.
      • xand_
        alright
      • hey guys, can i link/import/etc existing releases into this new release group ?
      • navap
Yes, you can move an existing release into a new release group.
      • xand_
        ok
      • navap, will i mess a release moving it to this new release group which is the box-set compilation you advised me to add ? I'm unsure about this relationships
      • navap
Which relationship are you unsure about?
      • xand_
i mean this first already-existing-in-database release called blue room ep, i want to "import" or move, (i don't know) it to my new release group
      • so i don't have enter all data again
      • navap
You can't do that. The server doesn't have any cloning or copying function.
      • If you move a release it does just that, it moves the release out of the existing release gourp and into the other one.
      • xand_
navap, i get it, so i have to edit everything again, even if the release already exists in system
      • right ?
      • navap
The easiest way to "clone" a release is to copy it's tracklist and paste it into the track parser when you're at the page where you enter in the new release.
      • That will copy the tracklist so you don't have to enter them in, but it won't copy the release events or any relationships.
      • But yes, you have to enter everything again (either manually, or copy/paste), even if the release already exists in the database.
      • xand_
navap, sorry, i can't find this track parser
      • navap
When you're in the release editor there's this blue "thing" at the top. Click config and you'll see options to enable the track parser.
      • xand_
        alright, thanks again
      • navap
        Not a problem
      • xand_
should have a "remove quotes" function to add tracklistings provided by wikipedia, but this is just a suggestion from a very lazy guy like me :)
      • navap
In the edit suite (that blue thing) there is a search/replace feature. You can easily tell it to search for quotes and replace it with nothing.
      • xand_
        ops again
      • brianfreud joined the channel
      • system complains it's a possible duplicate...foolish it telling its a brand new right ?
      • navap
Are you creating a new release with the same tracklist as another release that already exists in the database?
      • You shouldn't have to do that.
      • xand_
no, i'm creating a new release group which does not exist on the database which happens to be a box-set/multi-disc that contains a release that does exist in the database
      • the release is blue room ep
      • navap
The title of the release you added is wrong. The release title for it (and all the other 13 discs) is "The Singles 1999–2006".
      • Just like the release group.
      • The disc name is where you would put "The Blue Room E.P."
      • So: "The Singles 1999-2006 (disc 1: The Blue Room E.P.)"
      • "The Singles 1999-2006 (disc 2: Shiver)", "The Singles 1999-2006 (disc 3: Yellow)", etc.
      • xand_
navap, ok i get it...i tried to make changes to this release title but it takes a while for it commit right ?
      • Munger
      • navap
xand_: Yes most of your edits will have to go through the voting process before the changes take effect.
      • Oops, when I said the release title is "The Singles 1996-2006" I meant that plus the disc title. The quoted stuff above is what should be in the release title.
      • So the title for the first disc should be: "The Singles 1999-2006 (disc 1: The Blue Room E.P.)"
      • Please cancel both of those release title edits and submit a new one.
      • Munger: Go ahead and change it :)
      • Munger
Dunno. That looks like a fake cover for a bootleg release to me
      • xand_
        navap, alright, doing it now
      • Munger
navap, I think that's just a bunch of tracks somebody has put together for a download. I don't think it even belongs on MB
      • navap
Yeah, it does look that way.
      • Munger
Should I just remove it? I can't find any evidence to support it either way
      • Really, those should all be non-album tracks IMO
      • Somebody is actually using twitter for something cool - http://twitter.com/astro_Soichi
      • xand_
navap, besides this procedure we were talking about, is there anything else i should be concerned about ?
      • navap
xand_: When you're adding a multi-disc release, it helps if you create a relationship between them.
