Hey the Microsoft logger is working again ! Thanks to the one who got it back !

I didn't mean that I think it's wrong or not as good to use "morning", just that I'd find it odd to take something like モーニングコーヒー and turn it into "morning coffee" and then say it should be sentence case because it's japanese
      • but then if you say that should be english caps because it's english, what about when it's a mixture? what if only one word is japanese? what if only one word is english?
      • nikki doesn't know...

nikki: well I understand you are wondering... To me English case looks so unnatural I'm not wondering a second but to you of course it's something else! ;p

My opinion is that borrwoed words are now part of the language. when we romanise them, be they Italian, English, French, Korean etc. in the first place they are now Japanese and not affected by English case. This is 100% if written as ''mouningu''/''mo-ningu'''/''mōningu''/whatever but when replaced by genuine word ''morning'', I understand it has to be discussed.
      • i meant 100% sure
      • warp
jesus2099: like Oeuvre in some recent edits of yours :P
      • jesus2099
        you bets!
      • Is Œuvre coming from french or dutch in the beginning ?
      • warp
        french
      • but it's in the dutch dictionary without your weird characters.

So when a word is borrowed it is part of the borrowing language, it's normal
      • and abides by the rules of the borrowing language
      • nikki doesn't dispute that bit :P
      • nikki: so do you with English in Japanese sentence words without caps? (or sometimes I've seen katakana romanised in UPPERCASE and the rest in sentence)
      • ex: プラットホーム is a typical borrwed English word integrated in language whereas アイアム is not really in the language but is still english
      • It would be too complex to refer to each language's capitalisation rule, we should stick to one romanised Japanese style
      • nikki
if I'm using a transliteration of the actual japanese, I would use sentence caps. if I turn it back into english... then I don't know, hence what I was saying earlier
      • in mb I generally try and avoid the problem by letting other people add them and leaving capitalisation alone on the ones I edit (except for lowercasing particles :P)

I think we couldn't do the English caps because foreign words can come from plenty different languages (however mainly English) and we simply can't refer to so many guidelines for just a track list.. And the sentence being mostly japanese it would mix rules and we can't cope with that either
      • nikki
if we just say sentence caps though, I doubt people will bother using it
      • other than you :P
      • jesus2099
        BEcause it is more difficult?
      • it's hard to believe
      • nikki
probably because it looks weird to english speakers
      • the two people who I see adding the most pseudo-releases both seem to prefer english caps
      • jesus2099
Are they from England or another English speaking country?
      • Or Sweden?
      • nikki
        americans I guess.
      • jesus2099
It seems north Europe also uses Title Case
      • nikki
wikipedia, jpopstop, j-ongaku, etc all use english caps too
      • jesus2099
Ah from America so you see why they do this way..
      • nikki
      • jesus2099
Becasue internet is so USA influenced, bad habits are now taken quite everywhere online
      • <rude>I mean people with no culture take whatever crap they see for granted</rude>
      • nikki
and as far as I know, scandinavia uses sentence caps
      • jesus2099
But Scandinavia does include Sweden, doesn't it?
      • nikki
        yes
      • jesus2099
Foolip from Sweden told me they were using Title Case
      • nikki
does "Title Case" mean english-style caps or sentence caps?
      • jesus2099
        It means English for me
      • Because I write it like "Title Case" and not "Title case" ;p
      • nikki
you could be experimenting with german caps for all I know :P
      • jesus2099
        How is it?
      • nikki
        they capitalise all nouns
      • jesus2099
Both proper and common nouns? But not Verbs?
      • nikki
yeah, proper and common nouns and not verbs
      • jesus2099
Well why not... As soon as it is not sentence case anything looks weird to me, that one not more weird than English
      • nikki
french isn't quite sentence case either :P
      • jesus2099
        I must be too simplist
      • Well it is disputed actually
      • nikki
        I know
      • jesus2099
You see many sentence case even on books
      • Online it is English Case because of America's influence (they also forget spaces before ;:!? and write Mr instead of french M. etc.)
      • There is nowadays a big problem with orthograph in France so let's not even talk about typography..
      • Many people from the best scientific schools make many orthograph and grammar mistakes in their texts, it's really scary, even some university teachers I've had..
      • "C'était mieux avant"

      • Nikki: do you know or like suede, the band?
      • nikki
vaguely. I recognise the tune for "trash" and I know they were called the london suede in america
      • and I have an 8cm cd with one of their songs on it (probably trash...)
      • and one of the covers is green!
      • jesus2099
        oh I love them
      • nikki runs out of suede knowledge
      • and they a reforming sort of
      • :))
      • They are Brittish and they wrote "everything" consistently in lower case always everywhere including everything anywhere! That was so cool.
      • nikki
oh, and wasn't the lead singer called bernard or something?
      • I had a friend who was obsessed with them, obviously I wasn't paying much attention :P
      • jesus2099
I don't know if you would like them but if you want to give them compatriots a try, start by their B-Sides collection called "sci-fi lullabies", they rule
      • Brett Anderson (now solo)
      • nikki
was there a guy called bernard?
      • jesus2099
Bernard Buttler was the first guitarist who left
      • nikki
        ah
      • jesus2099
        Bernard sounds funny in English
      • nikki
hmm... filmstar and beautiful ones ring a bell too
      • jesus2099
        hmm... love love
      • gr8t titles include "my dark star" / "the big time" / "europe is our playground" / "the asphalt world" / …
      • this last one is epic (and still lowercase)
      • I went to see Brett live recently and before also but it is not as great as the band he was in. Hopefully I could see them before they split.
      • Hey you too like some lowercased artists, I know!
      • nikki
        oh?
      • jesus2099
        Yes, and I know
      • she's alan ;)
      • nikki
        ah :P
      • I'm a bit annoyed because all the versions of the next single are different
      • they know how to get my money :/
      • jesus2099
This is marketing at its worst
      • I often stick to albums except for bands that are stopped and which don't have too many singles or if I find the single for 2€ at book off :)
      • nikki is jealous 'cause you have book off
      • hehe but don't get to think it's a book off as cool as those in Japan... It's second hand at the price of new and the stock isn't changing very often... But I still have some good opportunities by getting there regularly ;)
      • nikki
        something is better than nothing!
      • jesus2099
I got all AJICO's singles for 2€ each! (only 3 singles and AJIC Oisn't famous/popular, thuis the discount price for here)
      • yes it is so lucky to have it, I agree
      • I thought I was dreaming when I saw this the first time
      • for the first time
      • What website do you order from? (I use HMV because you can always make sure that you order the shokaigenteiban (ltd. version) before despatch, unlike amazon)
      • nikki
I normally use yesasia because it's cheapest for me
      • jesus2099
        Is it?
      • nikki
        yes
      • jesus2099
        I should compare next time
      • Do you receive the special presents that occasionally come with discs? (like pair of sticks, stickers, etc.)
      • nikki
        pair of sticks? o_O
      • jesus2099
        eating sticks?
      • nikki
        chopsticks?
      • hashi? :D
      • jesus2099
        eh probably... let me lookup
      • hashi!
      • nikki
I'm not sure, I don't know if I've ever bought anything that should come with a special present
      • jesus2099
yes that's particular because I wouldn't even know I would receive anything at order time.
      • I received posters, chopsticks, puzzle, and even an eyepatch!
      • All kind of things that I don't know what to do with (except chopsticks, that was handy)

      • warp has hello kitty chopsticks.
      • nikki
        show off :P
      • warp
        they're not particularly pretty.
      • nikki
I have ones which are apparently korean
      • I'm not sure what to do with them
      • jesus2099
I have onmyo-za chopsticks (thanks to hmv), I was looking over the web but it's nothing special too :) but handy for once

I was looking at yesasia to compare and saw that title, can you guess what does it mean ? "garuneriususekandoraibudhi buidhi purasushi dhi raibufo o ruribufo wan" it's crazy :)
      • nikki
I guess it starts with something like "galnerius" then second live...
      • but the rest...
      • fatih
        dvd+cd live...
      • nikki
        ohh
      • jesus2099
yes hehe, that's crazy, speaking of romanisation.. Are there user submitted info over there? It's Galneryus second live DVD plus CD live for "ruribu" for one
      • the correct title is live for all - live for one, :)
