oh man, this Senora lady is causing a lot of trouble, huh?
johtso
drsaunde, ah nice!
jacobbrett
johtso: If you mean trying to work out whether two MB Recordings are the same real recording, Acoustid fingerprints might help a bit.
drsaunde
has recording dates and personnel for all of his original rec.
johtso
it's just a bit frustrating that the usual concept of a recording doesn't map to a musicbrainz recording
jacobbrett
johtso: Yeah, that's something being discussed and will probably change in the near future.
drsaunde
johtso: there are many people that believe it should (me included)
MutantPlatypus
johtso: can't you relate them to their proper work more easily?
and Work is more general than a recording, so
um
stuff
johtso
MutantPlatypus, what do you mean? relating all the individual recordings to the work
MutantPlatypus
wait, bye-bye, train of thought
johtso
*?
:)
MutantPlatypus
even if there a small variations between the recordings, they would be recordings of the same Work
are you talking about *merging* recordings?
oh, and by relating, i mean:
MutantPlatypus hunts for a link
Work-to-Recording relationship A work can be associated with one or more recordings. This provides the indirect association between a work and its performance and production artists.
from doc/Work
i'm trying to find the link to the description of that particular Relationship
MutantPlatypus, right, I was talking about merging recordings, so that you can look at a list of recordings of a specific song performed by an artist, and see that they recorded the song x times, rather than having a huge list of the same song on various compilations
and adding work relationships to so many duplicate recordings individually would be quite a pain..
MutantPlatypus
oh, ok. well then I have nothing to add to that discussion :)
i figured you would associate them with the Works first to make the merging easier to decide later
btw if the liner notes are wrong then you should add an annotation

it's a shame the user script doesn't work on the search page where you also get a release column
MutantPlatypus
does the French case guesser work?
ew, it removes accented characters. so no. but what about for case checking?
reosarevok
I have no idea what the French guess case does

johtso: did you mean to have Lord Kitchener's Work inspire two separate Works by (Joseph Spence and Lord Invader)? I meant to ask if you were sure that, since Lord Invader has a recording that predates Joseph Spence by a deade.
johtso
MutantPlatypus, wasn't sure which work to relate joseph spence's, the original seemed like a good option
MutantPlatypus
is there a recording of Spence's available on the web?
yeah, from those snippets I'd say you made the right choice :P
derwin
how do I see the list of acoustid submitters by fingerprints submitted?
I swear I saw a page like that before..

jozo, collection highlighter chrome bug was due to a recent MBS change that added <BDI> tags all over the <A> everywhere and that made the display buggy in crohme :/ I fixed it (but do not really like to have to add funny stuff work arounds) ;)
Jozo: for funkey disco however, I think CAA must have been down or something when you tried it maybe...
what is the right way to merge them, considering they have slightly different tracklists? (he hasn't removed the bogus beatport (original mix) crap)
reosarevok
Titles don't matter
So just merge
If you merge into the one with the right titles, it will just keep those
Also, it's "feat." not "Feat." :)
derwin
yeah I usually guess case
and that gets Feat. -> feat.
MuPlatAFK
anyone know if its possible to capture Amazon's cover art that's provided by the zoom view? It seems to be available in a high resolution that I can't get at
CallerNo6
derwin: when you remove "(original mix)", do you add it as a disambig comment? Not required, but at least some editors prefer doing it that way.
(iirc)
derwin
CallerNo6: I would if it weren't beatport just adding "(Original Mix)" on everything
if it said (Original Mix) on a CD, I'd actually just leave it probably.
CallerNo6
oh, gotcha

hi, does anyone here play piano? I'm trying to figure out how to interpret the fingering for scales on this site: http://www.pianoscales.org/major.html Does 1 mean the thumb, and 5 the pinky, for both the LH and RH?
nikki
derwin: last.fm/audioscrobbler used to point users to mb when their site was down (which happened quite often too), they were the source of a lot of editors back then

also, cd stubs don't need people to sign up, so presumably people would have signed up in order to add a cd before

how do I make the open in tagger button show on the website
nikki
open a page from picard using the lookup in browser button
(then refresh whichever page you want the button to appear on)
it's also possible to drag and drop the urls into picard, that works really well for some people
peaveyman_
got it, thanks
what does it mean when picard says stream info block not found

Ben\Sput, I'm having a problem with the scanner locking and not responding to kill signals. Ctrl+C, kill -9, kill -11. Nothin'.
have you looked up the artists on the tracklist tab?
rmunn
Paste that into the track parser with "Track names start with a number" and "Detect track durations" selected.
nikki: Is that directed to me, or to someone who was talking before I entered the channel?
nikki
you
rmunn
I'm entering them all with Handel as the artist, as per what appears to be the new style for classical music.
Then I'll go through later on and apply appropriate performer credits for the artists credited by Amazon.
The pastebin is simply the result of my taking Amazon's credits, *deleting* the artist credits and formatting it properly for MB, then saving the result. That's what I would be creating the MB entry from if I could get the server to accept it, but given the 302 tracks, no dice on the server end.
nikki waits for the track parser to take its time
So in the track parser, I leave "Parse track artists" unchecked.
nikki drums her fingers on the desk...
I asked about this a few days ago and hawke_1 suggested creating multiple release entries with maybe 100 tracks each, then combining them later. Problem is, I could make a multiple-CD entry that way, but not a single-CD entry. (For "CD" substitute "digital album" in this case, of course.)
nikki
jeeez is this taking forever
rmunn
I'm beginning to suspect that the MB code is configured to reject entries with more than N entries in the track list, where N is some arbitrary number like 200 or 250 (or maybe 256), because those are "obviously" someone trying to DOS the MB servers. Problem is, in this case there's a genuine need to create a 302-track release entry, and that code is rejecting it for the wrong reason.
nikki
it's not
rmunn
Any MB coders on right now who could confirm that?
