I can't think of a single situation where I would want multiple things making noise at the same time

but I can think of plenty of situations where I don't want multiple things making noises at the same time :(

hm, perhaps OS X doesn't come with an audio mixer which can do that.

(in windows the default mixer shows per application volume levels, the pulse audio mixer on linux is similar)

even in korean names generally have hangul and hanja forms (I don't know how koreans sort either).

Japanese uses kana for sorting, and doesn't differentiate between hiragana and katakana.
