The bad mapping to full width tilde was made mistook because of a wrong example picture provided by first Unicode documentation s, showing a namidash with waves inverted, looking like a tilde :/

The mistake was followed by Microsoft in its fonts and mapping but has been corrected in recent windows versions ( I can't swear as I only have old windows).
