nikki: Flags have been gone for me since last update tho :-(
nikki
last update of the script?
or the server or what?
drsaunde
of the server
nikki
hmm
which browser?
drsaunde
ff
nikki
which version of firefox?
drsaunde
22.0
nikki
hm. works for me :/
maybe it's a clash with another user script
drsaunde
ok so i uninstalled and reinstalled and works fine
sorry to have wasted your time
nikki
that's ok :)
drsaunde
it's funny that a dozen years ago, i was an IT professional, now i'm growing luddite every day

why there's [no label] at all? Leaving label empty signifies release has no label just as well.
well it's either [no label] or unknown label
Mineo joined the channel
is there's somewhere reasoning beyond making [no label]?
th1rtyf0ur
blank entry could mean that someone just hasn't bothered to enter it yet. '[no label]' is explicit
nikki
having nothing there *does* mean nobody's bothered to enter it
same applies to the catno and barcode
th1rtyf0ur
yes. which is different from "I have verified that there is, in fact, no label"
nikki
yeah, exactly
I was just saying it's not just "could mean" XD

th1rtyf0ur
ok, who's the pedant now? :D
nikki
:P
warp
we probably should have checkboxes for that, like for barcodes.
th1rtyf0ur
yeah, it's annoying to have to type out '[no label]' and wait for the ajax entry :D
question: a cassette has (unlisted) spoken interludes between some of the songs. 2 Release entries are present, 1 which lists them as [spoken #x], 1 which doesn't list them. should 1 be a 'pseudo-release' of the other?
warp
th1rtyf0ur: a cassette tracklist should follow the tracklist on the cover (if it exists), so that one should definitely be official.
th1rtyf0ur
ok. so the one that lists the [spoken] tracks is pseduo- then? or should be merged?
warp
th1rtyf0ur: depends :)
th1rtyf0ur
since it's a cassette, there aren't actual tracks to distinguish separation
warp
th1rtyf0ur: is there a CD release to compare this tracklist too?
th1rtyf0ur
ok, maybe this makes it easier- there are bootleg CDs that include the cassette on it, which separate the tracsk
warp
th1rtyf0ur: do bootlegged/pirated copies usually have the tracks seperated?
th1rtyf0ur
no official ones, though
ianmcorvidae
I mean, it's definitely not a pseudorelease, since those are for translations and transliterations
at least as far as the actual release status goes
warp
th1rtyf0ur: in that case turn it into a bootleg release in the database.
th1rtyf0ur
ha, ok. i'd just changed it *from* bootleg XD
th1rtyf0ur goes to cancel that part of the edit
warp
:D
th1rtyf0ur
i assume it's preferable to merge recordings than to change the recording at the release level, thus orphaning one & letting it get auto-deleted?
ruaok joined the channel
nikki
yes
merging keeps the mbids, so anyone with the old mbid will be able to find the new one
th1rtyf0ur
k, that's what i thought
i'm gonna need to write a new userscript then, so I can see what releases each recording appears on
unless there's already one that does that :)
nikki
where?
th1rtyf0ur
didn't see anything that looked like it did, though
on work/recording pages
nikki
the recording page already shows you though...
th1rtyf0ur
those list all the other recordings of a work, but unless they all have detailed disambiguation notes, you don't know what releases they appear on w/o clicking on each one
nikki
oh, you mean the list of an artist's recordings, not the recordings page itself
th1rtyf0ur
either artist/MBID/recordings or recording/MBID
nikki
recording/mbid does list the releases
th1rtyf0ur
recording/MBID lists the releases for *that* recording, but not for all the other recordings of the same work
nikki
oh
th1rtyf0ur
it justs lists them as '[live ][cover ]recordings: work (disambig.)'
nikki
then no, I know of nothing :P
th1rtyf0ur
for most things I'll be able to tell by what releases it's on whether it's the same recording or not
but it'll probably take a loot of loading, since it'll have to query each recording entry for releases
th1rtyf0ur wonders which works have the most recordings in MB... XD
