hmm, that's probably fairly close to the NA use of "producer" as "the person responsible for the 'sound' or 'style' of the song"

'producer' is kind of confusing, since it can kind of mean either someone responsible for more or less overseeing/directing/managing the song production, or a person directly involved with the creation of the music

iirc, the later meaning is more common in e.g. hip-hop

the later meaning is probably closer to the japanese 'arranger' credit, really...

Booba use quite a lot of autotune, but he's definitely the french gangsta idol

(I don't think mainstream and hardcore would be the same anywhere, even though mainstream seems to prefer "hardcore"/gangsta rap for whatever reason. :|)

Freso: I like Booba for some reason, even though the lyrics are terrible. Mafia K1 Fry are nice, of their subsets, 113 is good (the last album is a bit too mainstream but still ok), Kery James for a bit more hardcorish-but-political stuff

Heh. I think the only 80s French bands I know are probably Indochine and Noir Désir, which are very much non-metal
