        hello :)
      • is it only me ? since the last blog stylesheet change, text is blurry and light grey colour on white background colour… very hard to read… (i switch off CSS to read it in Opera)
      • the letters lines are blurry
      • CatQuest
chungy: yea. those sheep ones are pretty fucked up

      • jesus2099
ok i’ve looked for it for the first time, and the culprit is the font called "Open Sans"… when I remove that one from CSS it’s more readable (no more blur effect)

        hi
      • what's the track artist of a karaoke recording?
      • the original artist?
      • reosarevok
        Whoever it's credited to
      • Like with any artist credits
      • alastairp
so the person on the front of the cd then?
      • reosarevok
        I'd expect so
      • I'd expect the same artist as the normal recording, except for cases when someone else is explicitely credited
      • (for the karaoke)
      • simukis_ joined the channel
      • alastairp
even if the main artist doesn't appear at all on the karaoke track
      • and the recordings are traditional works (i.e., there could be lots of karaoke versions with different orchestras playing them)
      • reosarevok
        Artist credits are literally that
      • "who's credited"
      • Anything else, we have relationships for, which make for much more interesting data anyway
      • Of course, if the orchestra is who's credited, go with that :)
      • alastairp
ok. it looks like the track listing has nothing else listed
      • there are 4 cds, 2 are the main album, and the other 2 are exactly the same with no vocals
      • but the second 2 aren't listed in any different way
      • thanks, we'll leave it as-is then
      • reosarevok
If you have the orchestra info, do add the rels if you have the time :)
      • alastairp
        yeah, that's the plan
      • so the second 2 CDs will have all the same musicians, but no vocalist rel that the first 2 do

thank god you are here hawke2 ! i don’t really want to no vote all those “Edit recording” edits where you transcript katakana recordings to latin… maybe you could cancel them… ?
      • you’re removing cue numbers and putting them to latin althgough they are known in katakana… latin is for pseudo release (and the search for recording with latin will work thanks to pseudo release’s tracks)
      • (i only have my small subscription but already see quite a number of them… i know each no vote will generate email and have done too many already…)
      • so if you’re here, the better…

i haven't been active the past years, can anybody tell me if this is correct? http://musicbrainz.org/release/cefac0e6-1648-4a... <-- the artist for all tracks is "band 1 / band 2", even tho two songs are by band 1 only, and the other two are by band 2 only.
      • kepstin-laptop
Tecfan_: if two songs are by band1 and two by band2, that should probably be corrected, yes.
      • you have any source for the info?
      • Tecfan_
      • kepstin-laptop
ok, so it's a split single.
      • easy enough to fix, just change the track artists in the release editor (and don't forget to update the recordings too)
      • Tecfan_
yep, but vocalists are on both band's tracks
      • kepstin-laptop
so? vocalists can be credited with ARs :)
      • Tecfan_
        indeed, on it

hmmm. Is there a reason for Picard not to write track & recording IDs ?
      • warp
_5moufl: it normally does write them.
      • kepstin-laptop
yep, recording ids go into the musicbrainz_trackid tag, and trackids go in the musicbrainz_releasetrackid tag (varies depending on format, of course)

hawke: did you see that jesus2099 was pinging you earlier (as hawke2)?
      • hawke
CallerNo6: Yeah, I saw. We’re discussing it in edit notes since then.
      • CallerNo6
        okey dokey
      • hawke
        Thanks for the heads-up though.
      • While we’re on the topic: Anyone else have an opinion on whether English recording titles should be in Latin script even if they’re in katakana on the tracklist?
      • (I’m inclined to say yes, while jesus2099 and xps2 both think not.)
      • I don’t feel *that* strongly about it though, I just wish I didn’t get two dozen emails about it :-/
      • kepstin-laptop
hawke: I'd say leave it in katakana, optionally with a psuedo-release with the latin titles.
      • hawke
kepstin-laptop: How come? (I agree that the original tracklist should stay katatana, but not the recordings)
      • kepstin-laptop
        oh, recordings?
      • hmm, katakana unless the album is e.g. a japanese re-release of something that originally used latin script imo
      • hawke
kepstin-laptop: Why, though? It seems very odd to have English titles in a non-latin script as the 'main' name.
      • kepstin-laptop
well, unless the artist does actually write them in latin characters most of the time, then that's not the main name.
      • CallerNo6
consider the reverse. the Scorpions recorded a Japanese song, 'kojo no tuki'.
      • It would seem weird to change the script for the recording.
      • hawke
kepstin-laptop: the name is an English word.
      • CallerNo6
        oops, "kojo no tsuki"
      • kepstin-laptop
so? lots of japanese tracks have names with words that are english or were originally english written in katakana.
      • hawke
CallerNo6: I would find it weird to *not* have the name of a song that old in Japanese script…
      • (even a specific arrangement of it)
      • CallerNo6
it is, indeed, a very ... um ... specific arrangement.
      • hawke
      • CallerNo6
huh. I'm pretty sure that's not how it appeared in my copy (which I haven't seen in decades).
      • hawke
      • Point being though, it’s been done that way too.
      • CallerNo6
I'm thinking it was entered that way because some version of the album lists it that way in the track list.
      • hawke
        Probably.
      • CallerNo6
So maybe that's a bad example. If the various editions list it both ways, I'm fine with the non-latin recording title.
      • But in principle, I guess we have different senses of "weird" :-) . I can't think of any advantage to changing the script on the recording.
      • hawke
To me there is no particular need for a recording to match the tracklisting…I see the recording as a kind of “canonical form”.
      • Usually that means the most common track name, of course.
      • But I think English in Latin script is also pretty canonical.
      • Maybe I’m just misunderstanding or disagreeing with what other people want to get out of recording titles.
      • _5moufl
kepstin-laptop is there an option I missed where i might have stated i didn't want those id fields, cause they're definitely not tagged
      • kepstin-laptop
_5moufl: it's possibly to use taggerscript to remove them
      • _5moufl
I have no such things in taggerscript tho. I only remove asin
      • the recording id appears in picard but not in fb2k. hmmm
      • kepstin-laptop
        what file format?
      • _5moufl
        mp3 with id3v2.4 tags
      • kepstin-laptop
hmm. the recording id goes into a 'UFID' tag then, dunno if fb2k shows that properly
      • _5moufl
oh yes i didn't notice that. gonna check
      • kepstin-laptop
_5moufl: if you're curious, this is the full list of how tags are stored in different formats: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ao...
