I assume the collapsable media on the new server broke things. :\
reosarevok
Some scripts, yeah
KRS-Cuan
The set recording comments script is also broken at least interface-wise.
reosarevok
Not very surprising... that's why we really should have part of this stuff in the site proper
KRS-Cuan
Haven't tried doing anything with it yet.
reosarevok
Oh, well. One day :)

i didn’t know those Yahoo pipes thing, it’s super… you can make a custom RSS field out of anything !
rss feed, sorry
dns53
it's one of those things that is super cool that you never actually find a use for
jesus2099
i have just knew about it when specifically having a need, this is why it’s super cool for me today ;)
with it i could build an RSS feed for a specific github issue

just in case you're thinking about subscribing to "your news feed" on githubs front page - don't do that, it will not include entries for things you're subscribed to under some circumstances

ho, héhé… :)

If I have an album which has a bunch of artists credited on the CD, but listening to some tracks I hear background vocals that are uncredited, what do it do?
[unknown] performed background backing vocals?
reosarevok
Not technically wrong, at least
alastairp
yeah
I was suggesting just leave it out
but others wanted to add something
it's useful for us because we can do queries like "what tracks have background vocals", which is an important question to ask in our research
reosarevok
Yeah, sure
Some people hate the idea
I think it's more info than we'd have otherwise so why not

alastairp
right, it's one of those :)
Freso
I'm with reosarevok. It's better to have noted that someone, even if we don't know who, did background vocals, to not have it noted at all.
Exactly because it allows you to do queries like alastairp just described.
I suspect these were added back when AC were not possible
Freso
Nyanko-sensei: You could also just have edited the release. :)
Nyanko-sensei
I did
was told once to split the artists instead of destroying them by overriding the credit
Freso
Eh.
The same thing will happen.
Nyanko-sensei
oh
Freso
A "split" is just a more cumbersome way of destroying the artist.
reosarevok
Yeah, only difference to a degree is it leaves a bit more obvious history
But that's about it
Freso
Psh. Who made you an auto-editor when you don't even know such things?
Nyanko-sensei
I feel dumb now...
Freso
What a daft person they must be.
reosarevok
There was at some point something about (if one artist is not yet on the DB) editing the artist to one of the ones missing to "save the ID"
But I'm not sure I even agree since the ID was for a different entity anyway
Freso
Yeah.
Nyanko-sensei
that's what I was told
Freso
I used to do that, but then when looking at the artist history, it just felt dirty to me, so I stopped again.
Nyanko-sensei
for the "kyo & tetsu" credit I added both the artists. since there are many Kyo's in the DB
was hard to imagine that no one added the D'ERLANGER kyo considering how many time "la vie en rose" was covered and how iconic that song is
yet the covers are in the DB but the guy was not >_>

I find it's always better to add one artist (or any other entity) too many, than having to split one up later.
Nyanko-sensei
that's what I do all the time
it's that I made the mistake of going into my omnibus folder this week - as expected, there's a lot to fix on MB about them

I wonder how hard I will get yelled at if I'll mark as omnibuses the compilations from japan that name themselves like that... though even in japan not everyone is not using "omnibus" for all the compilations
I see omnibus used a lot in the rock scene
can't remember j-pop omnibuses

CatQuest personally likes to use "split artist" because it also makes sure that straggeling tracks or recordings, and other artist credits? gets split up right too. too many times have i seen people just edited the release and then the "x & y" artist lingers in the dataase with nothing attached but a link or some random unattached recording or AR
CatQuest
of course. I'm also scaredot be accused of "circumventing" the voting process if I just (auto)edit the tracklist. i suppose I can non-auto things I think are questionable.. but in general I don't split up thins I didn't think where questionable so I am assuming it isn't and should just go through.. :/
