I hate my scanner... delivers JPEG in a quite poor quality (looks like q<60 for the most part)

why would the scanner deliver jpeg in the first place?

Normally for me it's not the scanner that does that… it's the image editing software

nope... its the scanner in this case.. its a networked MFP that uploads the images to an SMB share... you can however choose to use TIFF instead of JPG, in which case it just takes the crappy JPG and makes a TIF out of it.

you could argue that its in fact not the scanner but the image editing software even in this case... but it is no software I have control over :)

Freso: I hope I find a scanner soon that works with linux... looking into bying a user LiDE by Canon, but could not bring me to discussing it with my manager of funds (aka wife) ;)

gibbon_: Yeah, I've no idea whether this will work with Linux or not. I got it from someone else who couldn't get it to work under Win7, but claimed it work fine under XP.

its kind of a booklet ... but ... in this case just random pictures of animals... no informational value

ruaok: Is rob@mb an actual e-mail account, or just a forwarding one? I'm sending through my @freso server, just with a custom From: header, so @mb.o being flaky shouldn't matter on the SMTP end. Of course, if it's flaky in the forwarding process, that's pretty terrible. :/ Do we host any mail addresses (like proper host) other than the mailing lists?
